The Most Successful People Explain Why a College Degree is USELESS. Definitely a must watch! Keep in mind, college is a viable option for many. The people you meet and networking opportunities are worth more than the degree itself.

PLEASE READ --> Hi everyone, this is a completely different video than normal. Videos will resume back to normal on Monday with an EPIC video by Simon Sinek. I want to explain that College is a perfect solution to many, however to others it may not be a good fit. For myself, it was perfect, for one of my good friends, it wasn't a good fit. If you are currently in college, do not rely on that the piece of paper that you receive at the end to get you far, it is your own commitment and perseverance that will get you far. College is one of the best places on earth to develop networking connections with fellow students and professors, as well as create experiences that are extremely valuable. I want to emphasise that you don't need to go to the best and most expensive school to get the best education or be successful. My advice is to BECOME INVOLVED, make friends with as many people as possible, help others, and be true to yourself. I REPEAT, this is not a video saying that College is useless, but rather we put too much emphasis on a piece of paper, thinking that a degree is going to catapult us to great success. Make the most out of your time, go out there and make connections with other people, and take risks!
I know entrepreneurs who are on their fourth business and don't have two pennies to rub together. I also see some entrepreneurs who are wildly successful. I know some college graduate that live mediocre lives, but there are some college graduates that are millionaires. The moral of the story is: do what you do and be good at it.
College has become a cruel and expensive joke on the poor and the middle class that benefits only the perpetrators of it. People should trust themselves more than a system that happily churns out unemployed debtors and provides dubious value.
- Peter Gregory - Silicon Valley :)
Most of these people (other than the pop stars) attendeded very prestigious universities.
They also almost always hire university graduates, and located their companies near very famous schools and in regions with the highest concentration of highly educated people.
Gates left fucking HARVARD after TWO years, Trump got a "small" loan from his father(not to mention living in a wealthy family and having their mentality), and ZooKerBERG is just a thief. Yeah kids, you can totaly get things in life without college, but with all things considered - the chances will be less atractive.
Don't believe that! There has only been a handful of people in history who have financially succeeded without college education. So, they are only exceptions. I am back to college after 40 years, and I wish I had done it earlier. Not only college paves the path to a successful financial life, it broadens your insight about the world around you. It illuminates the dark spots in your mind.
This only applies if you're looking to start your own business with a great idea and that's IF it succeeds... but to say no one needs college? That's assuming that everyone is capable of being Bill Gates.
but..the University is not! because all of those smart asses, they studied in a university this where all the ideas are brainstormed! even Stev Jobs who quit said one class there gave him an idea about the font!
Dumbest video ever. Feck off you utter bunch of useless unicorns. Yeah... because all these scientists and engineers, and all these medical and technological inventions came about by a handful of rich people who got lucky and made a hugely successful business. Oh no. Wait, they didn't. Not very successful business leader even steps in front of the camera to spout off, so don't listen to these morons.
A degree is useful for the right people. Is the system broken? Yes. Is it useless? No.
Can you be successful from not going to college? Yes. Will you be successful? Who knows.
Can you be successful from going to college? Of course yes. Will you be successful? Who knows.
The only thing certain in life is death. Beyond that, it is what you make of it. These super rich 'Entrepreneurs' all had a huge element of luck on their side, the magic formula was certainly not "Don't go to college, its useless".
Not mention "Define your version of success" ... not everyone wants to be a filthy rich business owner and leader of massive corporation that bleeds the world dry. Some people just want an education to understand the world better. So jog on with your utter terrible propaganda, and stop trying to make the world even dumber than it already is.
This is about as good advice as saying "Hey, audition for Big Brother or Love island, and hope you make it big for being a feckless and useless celebrity" ... i.e. it is terrible advice.
Ya, this like that a "College Degree is worthless" is the most stupid thing ever.
How many people are there in this world who left college and became successful..??? Calculate the Ratio between Successful and Total Population and see for yourselves. While being young in life is amazing as you are being taken care of, but being older you need to take care of things yourselves, just cause you were lazy and didn't want to do anything about it but blame your parents and ex then you don't deserve to speak out.
for those who are going to run their business, college degree is just a paper...but people and book are the best teacher !
for those who are going to work for entire life, college degree is everything!
Stop. Starting a business does not require much effort. That's why there are mom and pop shops everywhere. It solely demands minimal communication skillset and money for equipment or a space at a plaza. Meanwhile, a degree can help a person move up in companies and retire and not work their entire life
By the skin of my teeth, I graduated high school. I tried a junior college and dropped out before end of the first semester.
I wanted money right away. I worked hard labor jobs: diesel mechanic, oil-field, etc. Though I did well for a young adult, I still dreaded going to work everyday.
Until I discovered sales. I started sales and knew this was for me. Unlimited income cap, flexible schedule, meet new people daily, and my office could be anywhere.
Once I realized I wasn't lazy but just needed something that stimulated my personality and make-up, there was no limit!
Today I own and operate a successful business and will never punch a time card again.
I think kids should be taught various options in grade school. Not everyone is meant for college, not everyone is meant to turn a wrench. But everyone has an ability that if tapped into can open doors in their lives they never thought possible.
There are some occupations where a degree is required. Professions, which none of the speakers in this video have, such as doctor, lawyer, nurse, even CPA, have very specific education requirements. As for Suckabird, how many employees are there at Facebook that do not have a college degree?
Elon, Mark and Steves follow passionately and strive for their dreams. In the process they hire those people who are passionately striving to get high grades in school for a specific degree to land a job.
Billionaire’s target- DREAMS
Schooled people’s target- high paying JOB.
There’s a huge difference.
To all of you wOkE folks saying CEOs hire college people because they're good at following instructions: Who would you hire:
Someone with a certified diploma that evidenced that X person could do what they said they can
Some Dr. Willy that claims to be a good programmer with no evidence to support said claim?
I dont know about you but i'd choose the former :)
Hello, I'm thinking to go straight to the workforce after high school graduation since its really not worth putting over 40 grand for a diploma. I also do not wanna face any debt. I've considered working with trade jobs. Do students still have debt to pay after graduating college regardless of the scholarships they receive? What are your opinions towards this?
Employers would disagree. If a hiring manager requires all applicants to have a Bachelor's or higher good luck even getting an interview. The only way to get around it is to have lots of experience which is almost impossible without a degree as well.
Yes, college is VERY expensive! So then fix that! But None of the people they mentioned, that did not go to college, are people I would ever want to talk to, or get to know! They are basically idiot business savants! Take Steve Jobs! Total Jerk! Treated his employees like slaves! And took advantage of other peoples greatness! He was basically a dick, with a few good ideas! :) Who got his start up money for Apple, by selling drugs and Black Boxes that allowed free long distance calls. And Zuckerberg - Please!!! he should have stayed in school! He is an even bigger dick than Jobs! Won't allow art nudes on Facebook, but you want to spew out Hate speech, or kill an election with millions of troll posts by the russsian mafia-military - no problems! And they made millions selling every piece of information about their users, that they could!!! Just as long as you keep the cash cow growing fatter and fatter, they don't give a damn what happens!!! These people have no soul, no understanding of history, and they sure as hell have no philosophical or even a moral backbone!
THE BIGGEST RISK IS NOT TAKING A RISK
If the main problem of college is money then is it worth it if college is free in your country (like mine which is France) or is it a waste of time because i am in high school and i don't know if i should go to college or use that time to start working at a young age .
Any advice ?
Usually when you ask somebody in college why they are there, they'll tell you it's to get an education.
The truth of it is, they are there to get the degree so that they can get ahead in the rat race.
Too many college radicals are two-timing punks.
The only reason you should be in college is to destroy it.
The people who say college is useless probably never graduated college. Its pride, its knowledge, it is fun, it keeps you out of prison, it keeps you alive, it puts you in society of smart people. Money does not determine success college does and your mouth.
These are all opinions.......... college certainly doesn’t keep you out of prison. No matter where you are in life, taking risks by doing things that will land you in prison will eventually do just that— college or not.
Maybe don't listen to tech bros who are ruining the world when it comes to education? These guys are all tech, no philosophy. Your looking up to them because they are wealthy is just gross. They are doing nothing but making every problem existing in the world worse. The idea that being uneducated will get you rich is just the height of being a sucker.
If you would quit your job, lock yourself up in your house and find out who you are and consume information about where you want to take your path in life. That would be the best decision you will ever make, you owe it to yourself.
I agree to this. I am on my way to getting an associate and a certification. And at first i was told by all the teachers and stuff to getting your bachelor. But i changed my mind bc i am sick of professor that dont care. Also i am not going to put myself in that much debt.
Guys seriously, don't listen to these rich people. Decide what's right for you. If you want to go to college, have a plan, don't go because you need more time to decide what to do. College is good for many people and has utility. These rich people WILL NOT hire you for a position beyond low totem pole minimum wage jobs without a college education.
These billionaires had billion dollar ideas. Not everyone is going to reach their level of wealth, however a college education is still a good way to get your foot in the door to many job opportunities.
I'm a college drop out. I choose to be an Entrepreneur, my college friends is so worried when I was drop out, something they tells on my face that I don't have a good future and I only turned a good smile on that friends comments. 15 years later all of my friends working in a good company thats not bad and about me? I only own a Thai local restaurant with 4 branches and 1 hostel 67 rooma soon to open somewhere in Silom area of Bangkok. My friends work with somebody else, and I'm working on my own because I am the Boss!

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of payment cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot. If you missed getting bitcoin seven years ago, you wouldn't want to miss this.

Well video explains the excuse to what is happening in America. Because of costly education and most of the people aren't be able to get graduated. Well some get success and say such things but that doesn't mean that everyone will get success like that without study. Our education systems should change it should be intelligence oriented rather than mug up and puke system.
@Bruce I often have the feeling that all of the things people say about the argument of college are decontextualized. Just look at the title of this video, I mean. They did NOT say anything like that. Zuckerberg had his best ideas while being at college, and they all managed to be what they were because they worked with highly skilled people.
College is useless when one thinks a piece of paper is everything and it owes you a job. That is clear bullshit. But saying to people that they do not need education or hard work to be successful (yes, some people in the Internet go on repeating exactly this, and they get paid to tell you so) is plain lying.
Then we can say that if we think college, studying, educating ourself is useless, and calling everybody else a sheep. But seriously: college and university has a lot of flaws we should be aware of and should become better places than the ones they are, for sure! However, just saying that EVERY college education is useless is really dumb.
I think these messages are really well received because they are perceived with relief by people who did not studied or worked hard because (1) they feel better about themselves - "See?? I am not wrong!!! I can still be successful!" - and (2) these people then feel empowered and can attack others by calling them names -"Ahahah stupid sheep, going to college! Real life is not in school!".
The point is: nobody said that you can't be successful without a college degree, and nobody said the only real life is in college.
I went to university, got three degrees, and I am very experienced in the workfield as well. Especially the university where I am at (University of Amsterdam) made me learn hard and soft skills. I have already got an internship and a job offer before graduating. By studying and being challenged everyday I created a hard working mindset. I have worked as a university professor at the age of 26, I am doing research and experiments with children and schools with the best researchers in the world at age 28. My CV is totally fine and people in the job market are interested in me. I studied Comm Science btw, just to give an idea.
So, really, let's be careful about these messages. We need to be thoughtful and recognize the good and the bad of college. Yelled slogans like the ones in this video are really misleading, because they make us focus on the wrong side of the issue, that is how colleges should change, and how hard the successful people in the vid itself worked to get where they are, collaborating with experts, workers, and excellent minds coming from colleges, universities, and both the academic and not-academic world.
Let's look at the successful people and ask ourselves: did they worked hard and worked together with skilled people, or they went around saying you do not need education and hard work - as the gurus on the Internet say when they try to "bend your reality" (whatever it means).
Instead of getting the best of both world, we end up insulting each other, so that the "gurus" are able to create a sense of fidelity towards their products via identification and self relief.
A little surprise: all of these geniuses of the web use behavioral and psychological discoveries coming from university research.
Peace, and let's stop spreading hate plz.
@Vonte Swagg a business degree is useless because starting regular businessess, the entrepreneur doesn't need a degree. Just money to pay out an office or a space in a mini mall plaza or equipment. The entrepreneur doesn't need experience. Just money to start a another generic business. So I agree, your field doesn't acquire a degree, others such medicine do
Why are you guys listening to Mark, Bill, Steve and all the rest of the engineers who then became successful business owners? Do you know why they were successful? Because they had the product and then developed the business around it. Do you know why most of the new entrepreneurs fail? They do not have a product. University will not give you a product. And this is EXACTLY what you will hear Mark, Bill and Steve say - "university is useless. I did not let it get in the way of my vision. I succeeded because I stuck to my idea and developed it.
They were also highly intelligent. Wasn't it Bill Gates who knew how to program and messed up the time tables of his university so he can be in class with mostly girls? So he knew how to program BEFORE he got to uni. How many people can say that? When I was studying electronic engineering, 90% of the class did not know what an if statement was. They avoided programming like the plague. And even though I knew how to program I was nowhere near the level of Bill Gates when he first started university (if the rumor is true).
So yeah, go on and do your thing. Nobody is stopping you. However, universities are not useless if you do not already have the skills and/or want to learn engineering, physics, math... All the STEM fields basically. However, if you want to study photography in university... I would seriously frown on that choice. I would also laugh at anybody who takes pride in his studies in photography or arts. Seriously!? You studied and wasted thousands of dollars for something which I do on 70% your level just because I have adopted it as a hobby!? In this particular case university is borderline scam.
No, even easier cause now you know the probability and scope even before you start anything not necessarily because that anyone else already did that but because now we have immense data on public interest and opinion because of Internet.
Not everything is for everyone education teaches fundamentals it shows your discipline take direction but that doesn't mean you can't think outside the box and apply what you learned if you're disciplined enough and willing to spend time and effort in educating yourself and not only that making contacts so you don't need college go for it
I graduated from a 4 year university at 22k per year. After college I began working at a bottom level in a warehouse. I gradually worked my way into the corporate level after my first 3 years while thinking “I’m glad my degree is working for me.” 2008 happened, got laid off, and sent back to the warehouse and been there ever since (while working with a similar group for 17 years on and off).
I have learned that some of the people I work with in the warehouse are much more relatable than in corporate or management levels because they value family more. Majority of management at my company do not understand the value of family because most of them don’t have kids. If they do, they are taken care of from another family member so they can stay at their job for as long as they want.
This is how I feel in my area. It’s just a job. Money isn’t everything, but being financially free with a healthy family is my goal. It is within reach of 10 years from now with a working wife, 2 kids, and a house. I’m an introvert who wishes could have a better career, but have sacrificed my career for the family. I feel the grass is greener of the other side, but just can’t quite grasp it yet.
