Remote Profiling of Web Server Resources Using Mini-Flash Crowds

50:36
Google Tech Talks December, 14 2007 Unexpected surges in Web request traffic can exercise server-side resources such as access bandwidth, processing and storage in unanticipated ways. Server administrators today do not have requisite tools to understand the impact of such "flash-crowd" like situations on the various server resources. Currently, most Web servers either rely on over-provisioning and admission control, or use expensive solutions like CDNs, to ensure high availability in the face of flash crowds. A more fine-grained understanding of the performance of individual server resources under emulated but realistic and controlled flash crowd-like conditions can aid administrators to make more efficient provisioning and resource management decisions. In this talk, I will present the design, implementation and evaluation of mini-flash crowds (MFC) -- a light-weight wide-area profiling service that reveals resource bottlenecks in a Web server infrastructure, including access bandwidth, processing resources, and back-end data management. MFC uses a set of controlled probes where an increasing number of distributed clients make synchronized requests that exercise specific resources of a remote Web server. We have carried out controlled lab-based and wide-area experiments using the MFC approach, as well as experiments in collaboration with operators of large production servers. Our experiments have shown that MFC can faithfully track the impact of request loads on different server resources, and provide useful, and sometimes surprising, insights to server operators on the constraints of their infrastructure. The MFC approach is non-intrusive and can be used to actively probe Web servers in the wild. I will conclude the talk with a discussion of the key results from an MFC-based measurement study of the provisioning of several hundred commercial servers of popular Web content providers and a few hundred Web servers of startup companies. Speaker: Aditya Akella Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison His research spans various areas of Computer Networking including Internet Routing, Network Security, Wireless Networking, Internet Measurements and Network Management.

The Resource Oriented Mobile Web Server for Long-Lived Services

14:20
Get in touch: http://www.fahadaijaz.com IEEE Xplore: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/freeabs_all.jsp?arnumber=5644858 The Web Servers are globally accepted as the backbone of the Internet. The researchers in the area of the enterprise computing have studied, analyzed and implemented several architectures to optimize the performance of the largescale Web Servers. However, due to the convergence of the IT and the mobile communication domains, the mobile nodes now are also been viewed as the service hosting platforms. The aim of this article is to present an optimized Mobile Web Server architecture for provisioning the Mobile Web Services (MobWS) as lengthy processes. For that reason, the asynchronous interaction strategy is derived, and later used to comprehensively discuss the server architecture, which is based on the Representational State Transfer (REST) design principles. The manuscript presents a detailed performance evaluation of the architecture and compares the results with the server based on the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) standard. The results show promising performance improvements due to the reduced payload requirements of the REST server.

REST API & RESTful Web Services Explained

What is REST API? REST stands for Representational State Transfer and API stands for Application Programming Interface. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Hey guys, I'm now using Patreon to share improved and updated video lesson material. Ask the client clicks on the link, they request additional resources, and the application "state" changes. Transfer - the transfer of resources from the web server to the client in a "representational" state which can be read by the client or implemented in the application program by the programmer. The transfer may also refer to the application state transfer as the client browses a web site. API - application programming interface provides useful methods/functions which a programmer can implement into his own application in a chosen programming language like PHP. The API makes it easy for programmers to implement. It's important to note that the response we get when sending REST API request will usually be in JSON, XML or other format which makes it easy to implement in the code and it's not meant to be read immediately by a human being. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ( Website ) https://clevertechie.com - PHP, JavaScript, Wordpress, CSS, and HTML tutorials in video and text format with cool looking graphics and diagrams. WSRS - Managing Server Resources

07:30
With Web applications and virtual servers, managing resources is key to responsive systems. Microsoft has provided the Windows System Resource Manager to reign in the chaos! A server's RAM and Processor time is in hot demand in today's web enabled and virtual environment. A poorly managed system can slow to a crawl. In this video from our Windows Server 2008 R2 Administration class, Chris Ward and Doug Bassett talks about installation of WSRS and how to do some baseline configuration. WSRS lets you manage the percentage of resources an application, or even virtual server, can use in relation to all the other services on the machine. Proper configuration can help ensure you aren't starving mission critical systems of the resources they need. This is an example of the real-world, online HD certification training done at Stormwind.com. If you have any questions, feel free to email our Senior Technical Instructor Doug Bassett at [email protected] We look forward to seeing you in class soon. stormwind.com

Resource vs Query String Parameters (Explained by Example)

11:08
Resource Parameters and Query String are two methods to send data to the web server through URI (Unified Resource Identifier). The resource parameters use the / in the URL to identify while query string uses the question mark. In this video we explain the difference between resource parameters and query string, when it is appropriate to use each and we will as usual code both examples from scratch so you can build your next REST API. Stay awesome! Hussein

Securing OAuth 2.0 Resources in Spring Security 5.0

01:11:14
The OAuth 2.0 Authorization Framework is elaborate, with several nuances and subtleties that can make it overwhelming for implementers. Its strength and flexibility, have propelled it to an industry standard; quite often organizations look to frameworks to ensure correct implementation. Spring Security 5.0 marked the beginning of a long-term mission that the Spring Security team has to simplify Spring’s support for OAuth 2.0. Last year, it began with OAuth 2.0 Login over OpenID Connect 1.0. And this year that journey continues to now include additional OAuth 2.0 Client features and the first release of OAuth 2.0 Resource Server support. In this talk, we’ll take a look at two insecure applications--one a web application and the other a REST API--and integrate them both with an OAuth 2.0 Authorization Server. The first will feature Spring Security’s most recent OAuth 2.0 Client feature set and the second, its newly-released Resource Server support. For the web application, we’ll configure the client to use the Authorization Code Grant flow. For the REST API, we’ll configure the resource server for JWT support, OAuth2-specific authorization expressions, and JWK set resolution. Finally, we’ll put it all together, logging into our application and retrieving a secure resource. A server can be an expensive Windows 2008 Server, or a simple Windows XP Home computer with a shared printer. Operating System Server Operating Systems are more stable and secure then Desktop operating Systems Server Operating Systems and their Software are generally much more expensive then Desktop counterparts Server Operating Systems are generally not as easy to administer as Desktop Operating Systems Hardware A Server can use ANY hardware to operate, but Server Hardware is made to be more reliable then desktop hardware. Xeon Processors are standard processors used in servers Redundant Power Supply allow one power Supply to Fail while the Server is Still Running RAID -- Allows for a Hard Drive to fail without crashing the Server ECC RAM is RAM that does a self test. It is more stable then regular RAM, but much more expensive. Types of Servers Software features -- multiple features can be on one box Security and Authentication gives access to network resources Print Servers share printers on a network File Servers share files on a network Web/ FTP Servers provide websites on a network Mail Servers provide email routing for an organization Database Servers store data for outside applications Remote Access Servers allow Internet users to access the internal network. Usually a VPN connection. Final Thoughts... Buy what you need... Many people buy a $5000 server when all they need is a Dell bargain bin system.

DNS Records

11:33
In order to find resources on the network, computers need a system to look up the location of resources. Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. This video looks at the DNS records that contain information about resources and services on the network. The client can request these records from a DNS server in order to locate resources like web sites, Active Directory Domains and Mail Servers just to name a few. http://ITFreeTraining.com/handouts/dn... In this video This video will look at the following DNS records: Host (A and AAAA): Contains IP Addresses for IPv4 and IPv6 hosts Alias (CNAME): Works just like a shortcut for files except for DNS records. Mail Exchange (MX): Holds the address of mail servers for that domain. Service Record (SRV): Holds the address of services on the network. E.g. Active Directory DC's. Start of Authority (SOA): Contains information and configuration for a zone file. Name Server (NS): Contain the address of other DNS servers for that zone. Pointer (PTR): Reverse look up record allowing a hostname for an IP Address to be look up. Host (A and AAAA) The host record is used to store the address of a hostname. "A" is used for IPv4 and AAAA (Quad A) for IPv6. These can be created manually in DNS or if dynamic DNS is enabled and the client can register its hostname and thus its IP Address with the DNS server. Alias (CName) A canonical name or CName record provides an alias service in DNS. A CName effectively points to another A or Quad A record. When the client requests the hostname that is contained in the CName, they are given the IP Address that is contained in the A record or Quad A record. The advantage of a CName is that it can provide a simple name to the user rather than a more complex server name. For example, instead of having to remember FS27 for the local file server, a CName of FS could be used to point towards the server FS27. CName's can also be used to transparently redirect network traffic. For example, if you changed you mind and wanted to redirect the user to FS28 you would only need to change the CName record to point to FS28 rather than FS27. It should be remembered that the old record may exist in the client cache and may take some time to expire. Mail Exchange (MX) The mail exchange record contains a mail server that is able to process mail for that domain name. When a mail server wants to deliver mail, it will perform a DNS lookup asking the DNS server for an MX record for that DNS Domain name. The mail server will then attempt to deliver mail to that server. The mail server does not need to have the same DNS name as the mail that is being delivered, it simply needs to understand how to process mail for that DNS domain name. The MX record also has priority value that can be configured. If two or more MX Exchange records exist for the same DNS Doman name, the MX record with the lowest priority will be tried first. If this fails, the MX record with the next lowest value will be tried until the mail is delivered. Often large companies will have multiple mail severs for incoming mail. In some cases, these additional mail servers may be located on different sides of the globe in case there is a long network outage. Service Record (SRV) Service records allow clients on the network to find resources on the network. Active Directory creates a number of service records in DNS to allow clients to find resources like Domain Controllers. This is why Active Directory cannot operate without DNS. A single service record has a number of data fields associated with it. These include, service, target, port and priority. Service records are normally created automatically by applications assuming that your DNS server allows dynamic updates. Start of Authority (SOA) There is one start of authority record (SOA) for each zone. Even though the SOA is technically a DNS record, essentially modification of the SOA record is performed through the properties of the DNS zone. Looking at the data in the SOA record, you can configure options for the zone like the primary name server for that zone (DNS servers that hold the master records for the zone), the e-mail address of an administrator, serial number (Incremented each time a change is made in the DNS zone) and the refresh time for the zone (How often a secondary zone should query a master for changes). Server Error in App Resource Can't be found, URL is correct but href is not working in .net

01:58
1st Solution, Try BOTH SOLUTIONS PART 1 & 2. Please Find other part link on end of this video or on Upper Right Corner. Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. Your URL is fine, Several times it run successfully but when you alter something and run again it shows above error, this really sucks… this is the issue, I put the solution for. It worked for me There may be several reasons for this Error but I am trying to explaining here a few solutions which worked for me. I am explaining this solution for the problem when we neviagte between pages on UI then above said error can occure while the neviagte URL is tested several times and Fine. Hello Friends, I know this is a really common error, and you must be bored of troubleshooting it by now! But here's the situation I have: I created an "Asp.Net Web application" for .Net 2.0 using visual studio 2008. I then set up IIS on my local machine (XP SP2), and it runs the website fine. But when neviagte to other pages you find this error. More info on this error. It seems to only happen on page nested within page groups. Interestingly, we get the error continually when we are trying to add or edit pages, but if we navigate in the sitemap to the the first nested page in the page group, then we can view the other nested pages within that group fine until i make another edit. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. \Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. You are welcome! An internal server error could occur for numerous reasons like - incorrect database server, incorrect username / password etc etc. The best way to approach this would be to find out what's the actual error. You have said that you could see the 1st page, but the error happens after you enter the user name/ password. What type of authentication does your web application / site use ? See if it's setup correctly in IIS under the "Authentication" module. Also, go to the server and visit your page there, instead of from a machine that just acts as a client. If you use the server itself, it will give you much more information than a useless "500 internal server" error. If you could do that and see the actual error, it might be helpful If you have qns. post it here and one of us will help! Its difficult to help w/ just the general 500 error... #dilipmj

Managing Resource Limits like CPU Usage and Memory Usage in GoDaddy's cPanel

08:31
Find everything you need to start your own website in our store: https://midwestwebsites.com/store Want to test which plugins or themes are taxing your cPanel resources or generating lots of php processes? Check out our video guide for disabling plugins and themes outside of WordPress: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkiwbq06g1c If you've hosted a website on GoDaddy's cPanel, you've probably gotten at least one email notification letting you know that you're approaching or exceeding your resource limits. While this looks like helpful information on the surface, GoDaddy doesn't offer a lot of information about how to see whether the "issue" is one at all, or just a one time resource spike due to traffic or a plugin. This video guide shows you where you can see your current resource usage, how to check your resources for up to the last 30 days, and how to find and clear php processes in GoDaddy's shared and business cPanel hosting environments. With this information, it is possible to identify some issues within your website without having to call your web developer. That said, if your issues persist after troubleshooting, don't be afraid to tag them in or hire professional developers to have a look at your server. Their expertise can identify the difference between genuine resource usage and inflated demand due to a plugin, theme, malware infection, or conflict. Thanks as always for watching this video, and if it has been of help to you, please don't forget to like, share, and subscribe!

Puppet Resource: Move a Directory and Content

09:05
Using Puppet and the file resource we can copy a directory and the contents easily on our managed hosts. You may well manage web servers in your estate and you could well want to standardize the content of the web pages. Ensuring that on each system they are in /var/www/html. The default location is distribution dependent. To ensure they are all copied to the correct location we can use the file resource in Puppet to copy the source directory and contents to the new target directory and then remove the original source. Puppet can do this easily as we will see. Additionally you can find my video courses on Pluralsight: http://pluralsight.com/training/Authors/Details/andrew-mallett and take time to see my own site http://www.theurbanpenguin.com
