Germany looking for new trade partners amid US protectionism.(07.09.2018)

02:11
The euro-dollar pair is trading with bearish bias today despite a significant decline in demand for the American currency. The most popular currency pair retreated from the level of 1.1640. Experts say that yesterday’s ADP jobs report from the United States changed the sentiment of European traders. Now investors are waiting for publication of the official data from the US Department of Labor. Meanwhile, Germany released the industrial production report that disappointed investors greatly. The manufacturing output in the European biggest economy declined by 1.1% in July. Experts, who monitor macroeconomic statistics from the Eurozone, expected an increase of 0.2%.Furthermore, the trade statistics from Germany was also downbeat. The trade surplus decreased to 15 billion 300 million euros. The exports volume dropped by 0.9% while imports grew by 2.8%. After tariffs on exports to the US were imposed, Germany has been actively searching for new markets for selling its products. Thus, last week Angela Merkel went on a business trip to African countries. At the same time, other European currency showed a steep rally despite a lack of any key economic reports. The GBP/USD pair added about 1%, reaching the level of 1.3020.However, analysts expect the current uptrend to be short-lived. Uncertainty over Brexit will keep the cable under pressure. Besides, the situation may change after publication of the US macroeconomic statistics. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex #eurusd #gbpusd #forex

Trump administration plans to put more pressure trading partners

02:06
트럼프, 한미과 매우 나쁜 무역협정, 손실만 낳았다 In the U.S., President Trump has asked Congress to introduce stronger trade protections against imports of aluminium and steel products,... once again stressing that the U.S. match the tariffs other countries put on U.S. goods. Korea is a major steel producer, and would likely suffer if that proposal becomes law. Park Ji-won has more. U.S. President Donald Trump says he's considering imposing trade protection measures like retaliatory taxes and quotas,... on steel and aluminum imports,... mainly from China. If taken, the measures are also likely to hit Korean steel products. The comments were made at a meeting with a bipartisan group of some 20 U.S. senators and representatives Tuesday,... as President Trump reiterated the need for reciprocal measures on trade. "I mean the word reciprocal is a very important word. We have countries that are taking advantage of us.(...) And we're going to make it fair. And that - I call that fair trade." When mentioning the U.S.' chronic trade deficit,... the U.S. President expressed dissatisfaction with Japan and South Korea,... over joint defense spending. "We defend Japan, we defend South Korea, they pay us a fraction of what it costs. And we're talking to all of those countries about that, because it's not fair that we defend them and they pay us a fraction of the cost of that defense." The Trump administration is currently negotiating with South Korea to revise the 2012 bilateral free trade deal between the two countries. AFP reported that Trump called the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement a "(quote) very, very bad trade deal,"... vowing to scrap the deal, if the renegotiation doesn't yield satisfactory results. Meanwhile,... Trump claimed that following GM Korea's decision to close its Gunsan plant in May 2018, the car company is moving back to Detroit. However, in its statement, General Motors said it never announced that it was moving back to Detroit. Park Ji-won, Arirang News. Trump administration plans to put more pressure trading partners

02:37
트럼프, 한미과 매우 나쁜 무역협정+GM 군산공장폐쇄는 내 업적 The current U.S. administration continues to pressure Washington's trading partners. Korea is visibly in the crossfire... as President Trump vows to take stronger measures regarding international trade. Park Ji-won has the full story. U.S. President Donald Trump says he's considering imposing trade protection measures like retaliatory taxes and quotas... on imports of steel and aluminium. If taken, those measures would likely hit steel products from Korea. The comments were made at a meeting with a bipartisan group of about 20 lawmakers,... as Trump reiterated the need for what he calls reciprocal measures on trade. "I mean the word reciprocal is a very important word. We have countries that are taking advantage of us.(...) And we're going to make it fair. And that -- I call that fair trade." When mentioning America's chronic trade deficit, he expressed dissatisfaction with Japan and South Korea over the sharing of their defense costs. "We defend Japan, we defend South Korea, they pay us a fraction of what it costs. And we're talking to all of those countries about that, because it's not fair that we defend them and they pay us a fraction of the cost of that defense." He's apparently adding pressure on America's trading partners, including South Korea,... in his push to protect the U.S. market. The Trump administration is currently negotiating with Korea to revise the 2012 bilateral free trade agreement,... which Trump called a (quote) "very bad trade deal,"... vowing to scrap it if the renegotiation doesn't yield satisfactory results. Trump also claimed that following GM Korea's decision to close its plant in the southwestern city of Gunsan in May this year, the car company is moving back to Detroit. General Motors, however, has not announced that it's moving back to Detroit,... and in a statement said the decision was made because of sustained significant losses. Still, here in Korea, experts warn that in the long run, protectionism could hurt the local economy. "Many scholars in Asia are worried about the Trump administration's protectionist policies. Although it hasn't affected Korea's trade volumes or exports to a great degree as of now, that's just because the Korean economy relies heavily on the export of semiconductors, which usually have low tariffs." Experts add that protectionism could even hinder the growth of global GDP,... because they say it distorts the optimal distribution of resources and reduces the volume of international trade. UAE CHILE becomes INDIAs largest Trade partners and gets APEC Support

15:24
UAE CHILE becomes INDIAs largest Trade partners and gets APEC Support . UAE CHILE to Support INDIA on APEC and Indian Economy . India, UAE compliment each other in areas of business growth . Chile favours India's candidature to APEC former President Eduardo Frei . Liberia in struggle . India and the UAE compliment each other in areas of business growth and the private sectors are ready to support the two governments, a top company executive has said here. The UAE is the 10th largest FDI source market for India with cumulative FDI reaching USD 4.76 billion in the last 17 years from April 2000 till March 2017. India's National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) signed an investment agreement worth USD 1 billion with a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). As part of the agreement, ADIA will become the first institutional investor in NIIF's Master Fund and a shareholder in National Investment and Infrastructure Limited, the NIIF s investment management company. The move is widely seen as part of the USD 75 billion investment programme announced by the UAE in August 2015 during a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Abu Dhabi. "This marks a new beginning in our bilateral relationship that is going to be more specific and strategic in the years to come where India and the UAE compliments each other on areas of future growth and national security," said Dr Azad Moopen, President of Business Leaders Forum and Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare Group. "We, as representative of the private sectors, are also getting ready to support the two governments realise their vision and objectives with our own investment initiatives something that we will announce at the two-day India-UAE Partnership Summit (IUPS)," he said. India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) recorded USD 61 million FDI inflow from the UAE in the April-June quarter this year. The UAE and India share age-old ties whose foundation lies in trade and investment. The annual two way trade between the two countries today stands at about USD 53 billion and the leadership of the two countries is committed to increase it by 60 per cent over the next 5 years. While India remains the UAE's top trading partner, the UAE is India's third largest trading partner. Chile is open to support the candidature for membership of India in APEC but all the resolutions for the entry of a new country its decided by all the members of the group, pointed out former Chilean President Eduardo Frei ahead of APEC Summit in Vietnam next month. Chile has an open economy and a stable institutional and political system, who installs a healthy business environment. With the 10 trade agreements signed between Chile and Latin-American countries, the possibilities to export and make business in the region are maximized, Frei told a select group of media here during his visit to push Indo-Chile economic partnership. "Even more, Chile is one of founders of the Pacific Alliance, the most successful integration movement of the history of the Latin American region. Actually, its functions are becoming to been a platform of political articulation, economic and commercial integration and projection to the world, with emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region," noted Frei " I would like to express that the Trade Agreement that India and Chile was established in 2007, and then expanded in 2017 is not a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), it’s a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). The nature of this Agreement is relative minus ambitions of an FTA, because it’s does not contain chapters related intellectual propriety, electronic commerce, gender issues, environment or investment, among others. The entry on force of the PTA plus, has been the 16th of May of 2017, only 5 months ago. For this reason, today, is difficult to highlight an increase in trade on either side." "Nonetheless, I trust, that the PTA Plus will increase the trade, in the same way that the exported non-copper products have triplicated from US$ 51 millions in 2006 to US$ 178 millions in 2016. As Boeing kills aviation capital and trading partners tank, US export goals Made in a Fairytale?

28:05
Follow us @ http://twitter.com/laurenlyster http://twitter.com/coveringdelta Just what is the impact of a bad reputation? According to a Harris Interactive poll, the "reputation quotient" of Too Big to FailsBank of America and Goldman Sachs has slipped below the "dangerous" threshold of now defunct companies including Enron and Worldcom! In fact, financial services companies suffered four of the five worst losses in reputation in the last year. Meanwhile, this week, Moody's reminded us of banking risk when they reported they may downgrade pretty much all of investment banking. Meanwhile, according to the Wall Street Journal Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have reduced their use of mark-to-market accounting. They'll use cost accounting for some corporate loans - this is where assets are held at their original value. Sound sketchy? We think so. Couple declining reputations with rising bank risk, and where is Wall Street headed? We speak to chief economist and senior analyst at Greencrest Capital Max Fraad Wolff about it. He says Couple this with other US economic problems and looking at the rally we've seen in markets Wolff warns "it looks like people have gotten ahead of themselves." Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama is at a Boeing plant in Washington touting his initiative to double exports in five years. But Woff notes about the US economic outlook, "the other really big problem is we're planning to do really well in the next few years through exports and no one kindly mentioned 20% of all our exports go to the European Union, which is in the worst recession in years, and another 10% go to Japan, which is also in one of the lower growth periods it's been in its 20 year economic downturn, so it's not exactly clear to me which areas of strength we're planning to export ourselves into." And as Obama takes "victory lap" over US manufacturing touting Boeing as an example, the corporation shutters its production completely in the "aviation manufacturing capital" of Wichita, Kansas leaving workers wondering if the city is the next US manufacturing casualty. It's also the three year anniversary Obama signing the $787 billion dollar economic stimulus. So we take a look at a good hard example of how things get done in Washington when business interests and money is at stake. Last year Congress passed three trade deals, with South Korea, Panama, and Colombia . They were touted as "free trade deals," but Zaid Jilani, communications and outreach coordinator for United Republic, argues they are anything but. He breaks down how the deals were tailor made to moneyed business interests based on big lobbying bucks.

Trump steel tariffs: US trading partners threaten retaliation

Read more on PressTV: http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/03/02/554055/Trump-blasted-at-home-and-abroad-for-tariff-plan US President Donald Trump has announced that his country would impose steep tariffs on imported steel and aluminum to protect American producers, but critics say it would fail to boost jobs and risks starting a trade war with China. The US oil and gas industry on Thursday pounced on Trump's plan to slap tariffs of 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on imported aluminum, saying the controversial move would kill energy jobs by raising costs for big infrastructure projects. Trump believes the tariffs will safeguard US jobs but many economists say they will destroy more jobs than they create. Yukon Huang: Trading Blows: The US-China Trade War

01:02:51
The United States and China are in the trenches of a trade war, with damaging consequences for both sides. While China's economy is dependent on exports, with nearly 20 percent of its exports going to the US, industries in the United States reliant on imports are also feeling the pressure on their supply chains and may look to shift production outside the US in order to avoid higher production costs at home. The Trump administration is betting that China will back down and American companies will profit from protectionism. Bigger economic challenges will emerge if the trade war continues. Faced with higher tariffs, China could struggle to find trading partners for exports it normally sends to the US. The negative effects of the trade war are also not limited to the US and China. South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore are closely linked to China’s economy, and businesses which are part of the supply chain to China are also feeling the pain of tariffs. The UK, for example, is already reporting losses, causing it to increase prices on automobiles sold in China. What may come of this trade war and what are its long-term effects? Are the tensions between the US and China really about trade and technological dominance, or is this a great power competition for economic and strategic supremacy? Major trading partners react to Trump's steel, aluminum tariff plan

02:43
트럼프 관세폭탄에 전세계 발칵…무역전쟁 일촉즉발 Countries hit by Washington's plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports have expressed regret over the decision. Some, even threaten of possible retaliatory measures. Kim Mok-yeon sheds light on the possible prelude to trade wars. Earlier on Thursday, U.S. President Trump made an announcement that shocked America's trading partners around the globe, stating that Washington plans to officially impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. by next week. "It'll be 25 percent for steel. It'll be 10 percent for aluminum. And it'll be for a long period of time. ... We'll be signing it in and you will have protection for the first time in a long while. And you've got to re-grow your industries." President Trump said the move is aimed at propping up U.S. industry and creating jobs for American workers. Following the announcement, Washington's major trading partners reacted angrily. China's foreign ministry criticized the notice, calling it "unreasonable and excessive", adding that Beijing will take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. Canada, the European Union and the United Kingdom said that they will bring forward their own countermeasures, while Mexico and Brazil even said they will respond through retaliatory steps. The Korean government remained guarded over its next move. Some say this is because steel and aluminum only make up a small portion of Korea's exports to the world's largest economy. "Most Korean manufacturers are selling to countries other than United States, what we're selling to U.S. are more specialized steel that you can't get much in the U.S., So all the damage that we are going to get has been hit already." Others say this could just signal the beginning of Trump's controls on trade, which could spread to other industries. "The impact for Korea's steel industry might not be as big, but the implication is that the U.S. can control regulations on trade, not just on steel and aluminum but also in other areas such as automobiles parts, semiconductors and electronic products so implications are pretty immense." Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said it's currently looking into the situation, especially the background and motive behind Trump's latest tariff plan. However, until President Trump's decision is made final next week, the ministry said it will keep reaching out to the U.S. government,... and look for ways to minimize the impact. NAFTA talks hit impasse as U.S. slams trading partners

08:07
President Donald Trump’s promise to renegotiate NAFTA suffered a major setback Tuesday as Canada and Mexico aligned to block some of the most controversial U.S. proposals and the top U.S. trade negotiator accused its partner nations of being obstructionist and unwilling to negotiate. If all parties become entrenched in their positions, Trump has vowed to withdraw from the 23-year-old agreement altogether. That would usher in the new isolationist era that he has long threatened, potentially endangering tens of thousands of American jobs that depend on cross-border agreements for everything from manufacturing automobiles to the export of beef. The fourth round of negotiations wrapped up in the Washington area on Tuesday, and officials made clear they were at an impasse on a number of changes specifically sought by the Trump administration that dovetail with its “America First” agenda. As a result, Canada, Mexico and the United States have agreed to delay their next round of talks by nearly a month, retreating to their respective capitals to work out "challenges" and "significant conceptual gaps among the parties" before meeting again on Nov. 17 in Mexico. Chief negotiators are then planning to meet in Washington in December, and additional rounds will be scheduled through the first quarter of 2018. "Frankly, I am surprised and disappointed by the resistance to change from our negotiating partners," U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer told reporters at a closing press briefing, as he stood at a lectern between Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland and Mexican Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo. "As difficult as this has been, we have seen no indication that our partners are willing to make any changes that will result in a rebalancing and a reduction in these huge trade deficits." The delay comes at the close of a fourth round of talks that saw repeated rejections from Canada and Mexico of U.S. proposals regarding provisions on sectors such as automobiles, dairy and seasonal produce. While both Mexico and Canada expressed a willingness to remain at the negotiating table as long as talks continue, they also remained steadfast in their opposition to proposals that Washington has indicated are top priorities. "We must understand that we all have limits," Guajardo said. "Despite the recurring differences, we must ensure that decisions we make today do not come back to haunt us tomorrow." Reaching an agreement that benefited all three countries is still an "absolutely achievable" goal, Freeland said, but "that cannot be achieved with a winner-take-all mindset.” The divide has left open the question of whether the U.S. actually wants to revamp the deal or would prefer to force its demise by pushing near-impossible demands it knows neither Canada nor Mexico will ever accept. On Capitol Hill, some aides are growing increasingly concerned that the Trump administration has not fully considered the political and economic effects either of withdrawal or of some of its more extreme proposals.“ The debate is, is it a negotiating tactic or is it a real threat?” one congressional aide said. “And you never really know the difference until it becomes an actual withdrawal.” Mexico in particular remains concerned that the U.S.’ unspoken goal is to push a series of propositions that are unacceptable to Mexico and could drive its officials to walk away from the talks — a scenario that would allow Trump to blame them for NAFTA’s demise, as well as any political or economic ramifications that might come with it. But in Mexico City, where national presidential elections are on the horizon next year — and where hatred of Trump is at an all-time high — the more politically savvy move is to remain engaged, continue resisting any changes it considers harmful, and prepare for a world without NAFTA. To that end, Mexico is focusing on locking in contingency plans that involve finalizing a Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal without the United States and boosting commercial ties with Argentina and Brazil, Guajardo told reporters Tuesday. “Everybody in Mexico is ready for a walkout,” said Jorge Guajardo, a former Mexican ambassador who now works as a senior director at McLarty Associates in Washington. “Everybody’s just going into Plan B mode, sort of in a, ‘NAFTA is over, let’s move on and figure out what’s next.’” All three ministers have publicly been saying that reaching a deal favorable to all three countries remains the overarching goal. But Lighthizer on Tuesday reiterated his overarching priority of reducing the trade deficit — a measure Canada has consistently criticized as a misguided way to judge the success of a trade agreement. He also stressed that he wants to eliminate “what I consider to be in many cases artificial incentives to encourage investment overseas that are not market-based.” He lashed out against criticism to U.S. proposals that U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue recently
