The CEO of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, Yossi Bienart told investors at an Israel Investment Summit in New York that the recent election won't disrupt plans to make the exchange more attractive for companies and investors. The exchange is moving forward with proposal that include allowing Israeli companies to report financials using U.S. GAAP accounting standards. The exchange is also launching a new index for Israeli high-tech companies, as it seeks to keep those companies listed on the exchange and boost liquidity. Bienart says there's money to invest in Israel, but there needs to be more investment choices. As one of the world leaders in cyber tech, Israel hosted 2019 Cybertech in Tel Aviv, with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu making an appearance to speak about the industry developments and how they are being used against the country's enemies. Story: Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his country foils Iranian-directed cyber attacks against it 'on a daily basis' as he touted Israel’s cyber prowess at the CyberTech conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday. 'Iran attacks Israel on a daily basis. We monitor these attacks, we see these attacks, and we foil these attacks all the time,' Netanyahu said. 'Iran threatens us in many other ways. They issued in the last 24 hours threats that say they’ll destroy us, they’ll target our cities with missiles. We’re not oblivious to these threats. They don’t impress us. Because we know what out power is both in defense and in offense,' he added. 'But the important thing is that any country can be attacked today with cyber attacks and every country needs the combination of a national cyber defense effort and a robust cybersecurity industry. And I think Israel has that in ways that are in many ways unmatched.' Netanyahu was speaking at the annual CyberTech conference in Tel Aviv, which drew thousands of cyber experts and firms from more than 80 countries for discussions on the latest trends in cyber and innovation. Netanyahu touted Israel’s influence in the industry relative to its population, attributing it to investment in research and development and its leveraging of its national cyber defense efforts to boost private industry. Israel is considered a world leader in cyber technology and innovation, exporting cybersecurity worth $3.8 billion in 2017 and is ranking among the top 10 percent in cyber academic research. In the span of just a decade, Netanyahu said, the world’s top ten largest companies have all opened 'major' research and development centers in Israel, among them Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook. 'Israel leads the world in investment in R&D as a percentage of [gross domestic product]...and has by far the highest percentage of R&D personnel,' Netanyahu explained. 'Cybersecurity is not merely here to stay, it’s going to grow exponentially,' Netanyahu said. 'I decided several years ago to turn Israel into one of the five cyber powers of the world and that required allowing this combination of military intelligence, academia, and industry to converge in one place. And where we’re doing that is in Beersheba in the south,' Netanyahu said. Beersheba, a city in the vast Negev desert of southern Israel, has experienced a rapid gentrification since the start of the decade fueled by the city's ambition to become Israel's cyber capital, especially since the creation of its cyber industrial park CyberSpark. The two ultra-modern complexes house a dozen Israeli companies, start-ups, venture capital funds and foreign groups — such as Lockheed Martin, Deutsche Telekom, Oracle and IBM — which employ thousands technicians, engineers and researchers many of whom have studied at the computer sciences department of the local Ben Gurion University — part of a planned symbiosis between the university and the company. Last year, the Israel Innovation Authority, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, and the National Cyber Directorate announced a dedicated program to strengthen the country’s cyber industry with an investment of NIS 90 million over the next three years. A significant portion of the investment has been earmarked for further enhancing Beersheba’s CyberSpark hub.

YL Ventures is an established VC investing primarily in cybersecurity, enterprise software and automotive technologies, and operating with a long-term perspective. Unlike investors following hype, YL Ventures has developed deep market expertise and connections to evaluate opportunities. This improves the investment selection process and provides portfolio companies with significant advantages (such as advice on market niches or trends to pursue). In addition, YL Ventures' professional network in the US encompasses hundreds of industry-leading CISOs and security experts. These executives, who ultimately serve as natural potential customers, also take an active role in the due diligence process: they speak directly with entrepreneurs and then share their impression back with the investment team. Having this direct access significantly speeds up this process. More importantly, YL Ventures connects very early stage Israeli entrepreneurs with this network, helping them perfect their product-market fit, messaging and GTM strategy to the needs of potential (and eventually, actual) customers. The fund views these very early seed investments – as early as an idea and a great team – as investments in the entrepreneurs themselves. All these unique points make YL Ventures a rarity in the Israeli VC landscape, and it is worth paying attention to. The Tel Aviv stock market broke a two day downward trend to close slightly higher on Wednesday, despite two days of fighting in Gaza and Tel Aviv itself being targeted. Amir Ayal, a financial analyst and owner of the Infinity Investment House said stocks and equities had dropped in the last few days, by about two to three percent. But he said markets on Wednesday were going up. Ayal's company is based just north of Tel Aviv, in Herzliya. As to a possible negative effect of a protracted conflict, Ayal said "it's a matter of short term influence on the local capital market," adding that in the past conflict between Israel and militants in Gaza produced a positive result for the bonds market and the equity market. Analysts have said Israel's stock market usually bounces back quickly from initial drops following the start of military operations such as the current one. Azrieli Group Revealed Tel Aviv's Next Icon: "The Spiral Tower" - the Tallest Tower in Israel -The new tower will be part of the Azrieli Center complex, joining the circle, triangle and square towers which have come to be the symbol of the city of Tel Aviv -This unique tower will rise 350 meters and span 91 stories, and will contain commercial, office, residential and hotel space; approximately 2.5 billion NIS will be invested in the tower's construction - The tower's planning was entrusted to the international firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), which is responsible for the design of five of the ten largest skyscrapers in the world - Danna Azrieli, chairperson of Azrieli Group: "The architecture of the Spiral Tower is a reflection of the boldness and creativity that embody the Azrieli Group, which redefines Tel Aviv's skyline with each new project. The exceptional financial investment in the project constitutes yet another testament to our great confidence in the Israeli economy and its growth, and a continuation of the strategy that has lead us in building the country for over three decades." TEL AVIV, Israel, Dec. 19, 2018 - This morning, the Azrieli Group headed by chairperson Danna Azrieli, revealed "The Spiral Tower", which will be built on the property where the mythological Beit Yediot Ahronot stood for decades. The tower will constitute part of the Azrieli Center Complex, which today includes three towers - a circle, a square and a triangle. The new tower will rise to a height of 350 meters spanning 91 stories and once completed, it will become the tallest building in Israel. Excavation and deep foundation work is already underway at the site, and construction is expected to be completed within six to seven years at an estimated investment of 2.5 billion NIS. The tower's planning was entrusted to the international firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF). The firm specializes in, among others, increasing the role of large buildings in the urban space, and are responsible for planning five of the world's ten tallest skyscrapers. In attendance at the celebratory reveal event, which took place today at the Azrieli Group offices, was architect James von Klemperer, President and Design Principal of KFP, and architect Moshe Tzur, owner of Moshe Tzur Architects Ltd., who serves as the project's Israeli architect. "The Spiral Tower" symbolizes a new urbanism that includes a wide mix of purposes (mixed use) in a tower with around 150,000 square meters which will contain, among others, commercial space, along with offices, residences, and a hotel. Six underground parking levels, covering an area of 45,000 square meters, will be built at the base of the structure, in addition to a commercial floor connected directly to the light rail. As part of the tower's construction, the Azrieli Tel Aviv Mall will receive a significant addition of 13,000 square meters, bringing its total area to 50,000 square meters. The tower was planned and developed in a unique geometric shape, never before seen in Israel, which captures the eye and the imagination. The main challenge for the initiators and architects was to create harmony between the three iconic towers that form Azrieli Center and the new tower, an impressive, one-of-a-kind structure which stands on its own. The tower's design takes inspiration from the twists of a snail's shell, attempting to imitate their natural form. The design also draws inspiration from ancient biblical scrolls and the way they unfurl upwards. All these led to choosing the spiral shape as the central motif in the tower's design, in a way that will resemble a scarf winding around the existing base and three towers, and continuing like a scroll ascending around the new tower. The tower's peak will include space for conferences and meetings, recreational space, and a 360-degree view of Tel Aviv and the surrounding area. The expanded Azrieli complex will create the only traffic artery connecting all the diverse means of transportation around it: from the bus lines that stop at the entrance, to the direct passage between the Hashalom Train Station and the Shaul Hamelech light rail station, which will be incorporated in the new build so that the light rail station will open directly into the expanded Center. Given the anticipated activity of the light rail's Red Line, it is predicted that approximately 100,000 people will pass through the center every day once the project is completed. Watch:
