Africa'$ Natural Resources

Africa has a large quantity of natural resources. Nigeria and Sudan are the leading oil producing countries in Africa. In 2010, Sudan's oil exports were a near $9 billion. It has 15 diamond producing countries and produces 20 to 25% of the world's gold. Africa also has numerous copper and coal producing countries. Although Africa has an abundance of natural resources which are in high demand, majority of the continent is under developed. Many of the citizens of Africa do not reap the benefits from the sell of Africa's resources.

Nigeria Is Rich In Resources But Suffers From Problem Of Performance, Says Buhari

03:48
Nigeria Is Rich In Resources But Suffers From Problem Of Performance Says BuhariNigeria Is Rich In Resources But Suffers From Problem Of Performance, Says Buhari. President Muhammad Buhari has said that Nigeria is a rich country blessed with resources, but suffers from “problem of performance”.The president said this in an interview with Arise TV published earlier this week.He also spoke on government's reluctance to accept the N30,000 minimum wage demand of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).His words: “God has certainly blessed this country. We are rich in people; we are rich in resources, but we have a problem of performance, time factor.“We have to quickly exploit our resources. We have started with agriculture. We hope we would make progress with solid minerals, as much as we made with agriculture, and then stabilise the oil sector. But really, we have to do the infrastructure, because I firmly believe if we do the infrastructure, the roads, the rail, the power, Nigerians will mind their own businesses, but how much will it take?" He also accused the labour unions of putting the government under pressure to print more Naira notes, which will lead to inflation. He argued that it would be difficult for states who could not meet salary obligations at current minimum wage of N18,000 to pay the new wage.“I have just mentioned how much this country was earning between 1999 and 2014, but there are states that were not paying salaries. We had to do what you call bailout twice and then paid Paris Club and whatever it is, up till now there are states that for six months are not paying one kobo," he said."So when the recruited labour wanted salaries to be increased, I had to relapse into my culture, Hausa culture, and told them about a mad woman; she went to make firewood, she made firewood, she tied it, once she couldn’t carry it because it was too heavy, she increased it instead of reducing.“When they can’t pay the basic salary of N18,000 per month, they say it should go to N30,000.My budget presentation was no secret; I read it all out.Where do we get the money? Do we print more currency? If you do it, you cannot control inflation, but if we have to stay in government, they would force us to print more more; let everybody be a millionaire. #NigeriaIsRichInResourcesButSuffersFromProblemOfPerformanceSaysBuhari

Vice-Chancellors Call For Better Management Of Resources In Nigeria

02:59
The immediate past chairman, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Ish'aq Oloyede, and a former VC of the University of Ilorin, Shuaib Abdulraheem Oba, have called for a better approach to resources management in the nation's university sub-sector. The Vice-Chancellors disclosed this to journalists at Ilorin on the side-line of a reception for Mr Oloyede, by the committee of friends, Ilorin emirate extraction. Mr Oloyede said with commitment and innovations a lot can be achieved for the country. He said Nigeria was blessed with abundant human and material resources to move it forward, particularly in the education sector. "I do not share the belief that our systems are not working and cannot work. I believe that with little efforts here and there, we can make things work particularly in the higher education sector," he said. He called on leaders to be transparent and committed in the development of the educational sector. Mr Oba on his part stated that while there should be more funding for the education sector, it was essential to ensure appropriateness in the deployment of the funds. He said the government had, over the years made huge funds available for research in the university system which were not well utilized, adding that academics should do more to justify the huge resources available for research. Atiku Abubakar's position on oil and other natural resources in Nigeria

When will the leaders learn to tell the followers the truth, and also lead the followers right. After the partial removal of fuel subsidy, not even the SURE P programme is felt by all Nigerians. Transport fares have increased, food items have also sky rocketed, the masses are crying and finding it difficult to survive. An average Nigerian that is not in Government lives bellow a dollar a day. Atiku Abubakar has promised that if he eventually becomes the president in 2015, he will give states the autonomy to handle their natural resources. this means that petroleum products will be available to Nigerians without stress.
