Raspberry Pi - Getting started with MQTT
WHAT IS MQTT? MQTT (Message Queue Telemetry Transport) is a simple and ‘lightweight’ way for internet-connected devices to send each other messages. This is important for home-automation because devices need to send messages back and forth like ‘turn on the lights’ or ‘turn off the sprinklers.’ Devices using MQTT communicate by publishing data to topics. MQTT devices subscribe to a topic, and when data is published to that topic it is pushed to all the subscribers. MQTT Network Controller
Learn how to publish and subscribe to messages sent via an MQTT message broker to be able to remotely control or monitor the status of devices, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Android, PC, and Wemos D1. In this video I'll demonstrate how to install and setup the Mosquitto MQTT server, available at www.mosquitto.org, on a Windows PC. I'll then create clients that subscribe to topics on that MQTT broker running on an Arduino UNO (via an Ethernet shield), a WeMos D1 (connected via built-in Wi-Fi), and a Raspberry Pi (connected via built-in ethernet), and control those devices by publishing messages using a command-line PC application and an Android app. You can access the wiring diagram, additional documentation, and code downloads used in this video at https://www.patreon.com/posts/17921563 00:00 - 05:55 Introduction and Demonstration 05:56 - 07:34 Android client demonstration 07:35 - 13:03 Arduino, Wemos, and Raspberry Pi Wiring 13:04 - 20:01 Installing and testing the Mosquitto MQTT server 20:02 - 37:24 Code for Arduino Ethernet and MQTT client 37:25 - 43:05 Code for Wemos WiFi and MQTT client 43:06 - 48:33 Code for Raspberry Pi MQTT client 48:34 - 50:10 Android client (MQTT Dash) 50:11 - 51:12 Wrapup

Getting started with MQTT
MQTT is a connectivity protocol designed for M2M. It is an extremely lightweight publish/subscribe messaging transport that is ideal for connecting small devices connected on networks with minimal bandwidth. The Eclipse Paho project is the reference implementation for the MQTT protocol. This webinar introduces developers to MQTT and then show how you can develop your very first MQTT based application using Paho and the Eclipse IDE. Speakers: Ian Craggs (IBM) and David Locke (IBM)

Node Red MQTT on the Raspberry Pi
Node Red has quite rightly generated a huge head of steam in the 3 years since IBM released it as an Open Source project. Here I quickly review the interface and short circuit some of the installation and upgrade problems. If you need a reason to learn OO JavaScript then this too is an excellent starting point. #48 Connect ESP8266 with the world (and IFTT) through MQTT and Adafruit.io (Tutorial)
In this video I connect my ESP8266 to the world. I build a MQTT connection to Adafruit.io and from there, to ,my IPAD, to IFTT and to a node-red instance hosted on IBM bluemix service. I also show why this is one of the simplest concepts to solve the connection problem from behind your firewall to the internet. For my tests, I used three different MQTT client libraries: https://github.com/i-n-g-o/esp-mqtt-arduino http://pubsubclient.knolleary.net/ https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_MQTT_Library Witty Board: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/EY3GoAy They are all included in the Arduino IDE. For your convenience, I posted the sketches I used for my tests to github. If you replace the credentials (and the feeds) you should be able to start with MQTT. 2 Ways To install Mosquitto MQTT Server On Ubuntu 18 04 LTS
Mosquitto MQTT Server is a message broker which works over MQTT protocol. MQTT is lightweight messaging protocol that is ISO standard for use on top of TCP/IP protocol. It is mostly used for communicating with Internet of Things devices. We are going to install Mosquitto on a Ubuntu 16.04 server and we are going to send messages from MQTT-spy software. Mosquitto is an Eclipse project and it is distributed under EDL license.

BK Hobby Live Stream #4 - openHAB Basics - MQTT v2 Binding Configuration
openHAB MQTT v2 Binding: Setup, Configuration and Conversion of MQTT v1 devices I've started the slow process of converting my sensors from openHAB MQTT binding v1 to v2. As I do this, I've noticed there are several points of confusion in how the v2 binding works, including definition of MQTT Things (Broker, Homie, Generic, etc...) Channels (topic channels, trigger channels, etc..) and redefinition of v1 Items. So, I'll do a quick live stream to show you how I configured my MQTT setup, the tools I use for MQTT troubleshooting, and answer any questions you may have about the setup!
