Get the eBook, "PRINCE2 in a Nutshell", that guides you through a project through the PRINCE2 "lens". What is different about this eBook compared to others? There are the links embedded through the book that take you to videos which explain the particular topic in more detail. So if you are reading the section that takes a look at Business Options, click on the link to watch the detailed video explaining the topic. Here is a link for an overview - http://bit.ly/P2Nutshell-Chpt1 When you want to obtain the eBook the link below will take you to the website with the PayPal option and the eBook will download directly after. http://bit.ly/SPMeBooks Please note that this video was recorded close to the new version being released The differences are: - Strategy Documents - (Risk, Quality, Communications) renamed to Management Approaches - The Configuration MS now called Change Control Approach - The Benefits Review Plan - renamed to Benefits Management Approach A full 1 hour overview of PRINCE2 from Mandate to Closure. Discusses the relevance of activities, roles, docs and actions as we go. Enough to be really prepared for the course, should you wish to attend one, and certainly to understand the Why, What and How of the approach and that it works... when used properly For a full image of the new life cycle follow this link: http://bit.ly/P2-2017ProcessMap For more details on some of the outputs, (business case), techniques and actions please see some other videos on this channel. Also go to the Course Platform where you will find a series of videos on these subjects - There are some introduction videos on the channel that will give you an overview of what there is on the platform. The video looks at getting the project started with the activities and any documents recommended and take you up to the point at the end of Initiating a Project and being ready (hopefully) to kick the deliver part of the project off in earnest. Run the plan! The message is that we need to start with a broad yet formal understanding of the "Why, What and How" of the project in "Starting Up a Project" and build on the that with more detail through "Initiating a Project". At the end of "Starting Up a Project" the next step is to go to "Directing a Project" (which is where the Project Board function for direction and decision) to "Request Initiate a Project" and kicks off this Process. Note that even though the Project Executive is on board from Starting Up a Project, it is only when "Starting Up a Project" is complete and the Project Brief is ready along with the Initiating Stage Plan, does "Directing a Project" start. "Step at a time" - "Detail builds with each step" so we can keep in control and by that I mean from a "Governance" perspective, so we do NOT have a "run-away train". In "Initiating a Project" we look at Planning as this is really the key activity here. We need to understand the products (product breakdown) so then we can prioritize, estimate and then Plan. This helps us update all the project documents we started in "Starting Up a Project" in order to provide the business with the best information they need to make an "informed decision" as to whether the project is worth the investment or not. The underlying point here is to understand and agree the project "Scope"! Should we get the "Green Light" at the end of "Initiating a Project" we then move into the "Delivery" part, "Controlling a Stage" and "Managing Product Delivery". Now for the product build part, there are some separate videos that that you through "Scrum" and how the core of the "Product Deliver" approach, Iterative Development, and using "Timeboxes" (Sprints in Scrum) are used to control ID. The session also explains how to use this approach in a project as there needs to be some changes! We also look at handling Risk and Issues, with escalation and the "Exception" route. Finally, the video takes you through a recap of the previous videos and then leads into "Closing a Project", with a look a both aspect, normal and premature closure. Please note: this is not a course in itself, its a "walkthrough" to provide you with a good and reasonably detailed understanding of the approach. PRINCE2 is a guidance and a framework to guide you through the project. The full accredited course can be found on http://www.d-p-c.net/courses.html To follow this and other courses please go to http://www.thesustainablepm.thinkific.com You will see the course card on the Landing Page. All the courses are run as a "Classroom" with the details drawn on a whiteboard throughout the explanation For a full image of the new life cycle follow this link: http://bit.ly/P2-2017ProcessMap PRINCE2®, MSP®, M_o_R® and MoP® are registered trademarks of AXELOS Limited.

Whenever you buy a complex piece of equipment such as a TV or a car, do you ever wonder: how exactly did they put this all together? This video analyzes Toyota's Just in Time production system. Well, ever since the industrial revolution, that “how” has been a vital question for many businesses. Today, we’re going to look at how in post-war Japan, Toyota helped to create one of the smartest production systems that we have, named “Just In Time”. We’ll look at how it works and how you can apply the philosophy and practises to many other areas of business too. After World War 2, Japan faced some difficult problems; they didn’t have a lot of cash, resources were scarce, and there wasn’t a lot of free land to expand factories. However, Taiichi Ohno at Toyota managed to turn these problems into advantages by slowly creating the Just In Time system. The idea didn’t all come at once, it’s more that through the 50s and 60s, various changes were implemented and improved until the 70s were the wider world began to realise the benefits and start to adopt a similar approach. So, what is Just In Time? Are you trying to build the right product but can’t seem to figure it out? In this video, I want to share my strategy for managing projects and getting things done on time and on budget. Are you an entrepreneur? Get free weekly video training here: http://www.danmartell.com/newsletter + Join me on FB: http://FB.com/DanMartell + Connect w/ me live: http://periscope.tv/danmartell + Tweet me: http://twitter.com/danmartell + Instagram awesomeness: http://instagram.com/danmartell In 2001, I got a job I wasn’t qualified for. I was hired by a big oil company to lead a new project with dozens of developers to build a product that would be used by every employee in the company. No pressure, right? On the first day, the hiring manager realized I was in way over my head and pulled me aside to tell me I had 2 weeks to “figure things out”. Umm… ok? I had no clue what that meant... but the stakes were clear, and I couldn’t lose this project. I hadn’t worked in 2 months and if I failed, it meant moving back in with my parents. In this week’s video I share the journey of how I went from a newbie leader on the verge of being forced onto my mother’s couch… … to someone who successfully managed a multi-million dollar project for 2 years. The best way for me to show you the difference is by using a real world example... ... so this week I use our new set design (it’s still not finished - it’s an iteration away but watch the video above to check it out). I worked with my buddy Tim to build it out and let's just say there were some hiccups. So in many ways this video is for him... a primer on how to manage projects with a bend on software (my world)! I go over: -- How to use time blocking to define constraints & force creativity -- How to write outcome driven user stories to set expectations -- Why you should prototype the unknowns -- The right way to validate interdepencies amongst various departments I also wrap up with a myth that needs to be squashed around “planning” and why nothing works out the way it should and how to overcome that. Recently I got a call from a founder who had invested $1.5M into a software project. It had been 2 years and they still hadn’t launched. In many ways, this video is for them, too. Now it’s your turn... what have you learned about managing projects over the years? What are some tricks for keeping people on scope, on budget and on track? Leave a comment with your best strategies! Dan “still undecided about gantt charts” Martell Don't forget to share this entrepreneurial advice with your friends, so they can learn too: https://youtu.be/Y7sJwlyuoWw ===================== ABOUT DAN MARTELL ===================== “You can only keep what you give away.” That’s the mantra that’s shaped Dan Martell from a struggling 20-something business owner in the Canadian Maritimes (which is waaay out east) to a successful startup founder who’s raised more than $3 million in venture funding and exited not one... not two... but three tech businesses: Clarity.fm, Spheric and Flowtown. You can only keep what you give away. That philosophy has led Dan to invest in 33+ early stage startups such as Udemy, Intercom, Unbounce and Foodspotting. It’s also helped him shape the future of Hootsuite as an advisor to the social media tour de force. An activator, a tech geek, an adrenaline junkie and, yes, a romantic (ask his wife Renee), Dan has recently turned his attention to teaching startups a fundamental, little-discussed lesson that directly impacts their growth: how to scale. You’ll find not only incredible insights in every moment of every talk Dan gives - but also highly actionable takeaways that will propel your business forward. #iitutor #BusinessStudies #OperationProcess https://www.iitutor.com Strategic means affecting all business functions. The strategic role of operations management is to contribute to the direction and plan of the business. The main goal of business is to minimise costs to maximise profits. A strategic role of operations is the management of costs. The different operations costs for a business are: Input costs, Labour costs, Processing costs, Inventory costs, Quality management. • Cost leadership aims to have the lowest costs and be the most prices competitive in the market. The business must still be profitable. Operations Management therefore must find ways to reduce costs in production. Example: Bunnings. A business can cut costs by increasing the scale/size of the business. How? By buying in bulk, the business is able to negotiate lower costs per unit. Goods/service differentiation: Tangible – they can be seen and touched. Tend to be standardised. Can be owned and transferred between people. Can take considerable time between production and consumption. Easy to determine costs by calculating inputs and adding margin. Services: Intangible. Generally customised. Cannot be owned. Production and consumption occurs at the same time. The value of a service depends on what the consumer is prepared to pay. Product Differentiation. Operations must find a way to distinguish their products from their competitors. This gives them a competitive advantage. This will differ between goods and services. Product Differentiation: Goods. Varying the actual product features. Operations search for ways to make their product features attractive to the consumer. Varying product quality. Making a low quality alternative to attract a different group of consumers. Varying the augmented features. This refers to add-ons or additional benefits. Product Differentiation: Services. Varying the amount of time spent on a service. Example: Hair salons. Varying the level of expertise brought to a service. Some service providers will offer a higher level of expertise. Varying the qualifications and experience of the service provider. This can be an important factor when consumers are choosing their service provider. Varying the quality of materials/ technology used in service delivery. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Medical technologies. Cross Branding: Operations may choose to offer consumers added benefits from a cross-branding arrangement.

Speaker: Scott Shaw A digital platform is a foundation of self-service APIs, tools, services, knowledge and support arranged as a compelling internal product. Autonomous delivery teams can make use of the platform to deliver product features at a higher pace with reduced coordination. Increasingly, we see large enterprises building their own digital platforms in emulation of successful online businesses. These platforms accelerate digital product delivery by reducing friction between teams and streamlining electronic access to core business capabilities. In this talk, I'll introduce the concept of a digital platform, explain why they accelerate delivery, provide some examples and describe the technical pillars that support the platform. I'll describe the qualities necessary for platform success then focus on the key factor; managing the platform as a product. Successful products incorporate the voice of the customer in a collaborative, evolutionary design process. In the case of digital platforms, the customer or consumer is an internal software developer, so developer experience (DX) becomes a critical factor. To wrap up, I'll talk about the importance of having a strong platform manager and the evolving role of architects in a platform ecosystem. About Scott Shaw: As the Head of Technology for ThoughtWorks in Australia, Scott divides his time between professional services leadership and consulting. As a consultant, he helps enterprise customers to shape their technology to align with 21st century practices like cloud, continuous delivery, microservices and lean governance. As a lifelong programmer and technology professional, Scott has designed and worked on distributed systems of every imaginable size and shape. When he’s not in meetings, Scott enjoys writing Clojure code. There's a way to organize your work, stay focused, avoid mistakes, and be hyper-productive that you can learn in five minutes using sticky notes and markers. It's been used by Toyota to make cars, by Xbox to build software, and by individuals to maintain sanity. It’s called Kanban, and Eric Brechner, an Xbox development manager, has been using it with multiple teams for the past four years. Eric’s new book, Agile Project Management with Kanban, has a quick start guide, with illustrations and online spreadsheets to get you productive fast. Other chapters help you estimate work, meet deadlines, deploy results, evolve from Scrum or traditional Waterfall, and integrate Kanban into large projects. Attend this talk in person, and you’ll create your own Kanban board, applying this simple technique to the work you do every day.

Project Management Life Cycle: 1.Initiation involves starting up the project, by documenting a business case, feasibility study, terms of reference, appointing the team and setting up a Project Office. 2.Planning involves setting out the roadmap for the project by creating the following plans: project plan, resource plan, financial plan, quality plan, acceptance plan and communications plan. 3.Execution involves building the deliverables and controlling the project delivery, scope, costs, quality, risks and issues. 4.Closure involves winding-down the project by releasing staff, handing over deliverables to the customer and completing a post implementation review. They would like to understand: • The normal path of a project • How a project begins and the steps until the project closes • How all the processes fit together and how the outputs from one process are the inputs to another This course therefore provides a high-level overview of PRINCE2 using the Process Model. It is possibly the best introduction to PRINCE2, as you will be able to follow the path of a typical project and revise your knowledge of PRINCE2, for example, by drawing the Process Model diagram and explaining it in your own words. I have included some exercise sheets (see our website) so you can practice drawing the PRINCE2 Process Model and filling in the missing information. Once you are able to draw the complete model, then you will have an excellent grounding in PRINCE2 and will find it much easier to take the Foundation or Practitioner courses. The development, distribution and evolution of software is a time-consuming and error-prone activity. The Deliver project aims at tackling these problems through intelligent management, analysis and use of knowledge on software components. This knowledge is stored in a so-called Intelligent Software Knowledge Base that contains data both on the software present with the producer and the software installed with the client. This knowledge enables both the producer and the client to make predictions on the influence of changes in the software. Thus it will also be possible to install new versions of software with a client in an efficient and safe manner. http://www.jacquard.nl/

I’m talking about QR codes. There are many who think that the QR code is dead, and they wouldn’t be wrong. We could write an entire blog post about why QR codes suck, but they’re still the fastest way to transmit large amounts of information. Go to https://www.sebasolutions.com to learn more about Dr. James Brown, project management and leadership speaker. Professional keynote and project management speaker and author, James Brown introduces his book The Handbook of Program Management published by McGraw-Hill. This video supports my book, The Handbook of Program Management. From Chapter 1 we will clarify Program and Project Management Roles. The role of the program manager is very different than the role of the project manager. The role of the program manager is very complex; it can vary from managing multiple projects to managing multiple projects with operational responsibilities, in addition to being accountable for profit or cost targets linked to business strategy. Conversely, the project manager’s role is to deliver the project within the cost and schedule constraints that are usually established at the program level The program manager is also frequently accountable for the “policy” that defines how the work is accomplished. Even in environments where a Project Management Office or (PMO) establishes company- or organization-wide policy with regard to project management, the program manager often plays a significant role, since this policy directly impacts his or her ability to meet cost targets and business objectives in addition to making sure the company meets program objectives, the program manager must establish a culture that allows his or her project managers to be successful. The program manager must create, manage, and continually improve the culture that enables successful projects. A program manager is first and foremost a leader. In fact, the program manager’s main leadership duty is to turn chaos into clarity for the team. Any leader who allows chaos to exist or just passes chaos down to the team without clarification, is not exercising leadership. People need clear direction and circumstances that allow them to be successful. The program manager must establish such direction both within and outside the organization through a variety of means. Additionally, the program manager may have to accept calculated risk when he or she is unable to obtain clarity from the organization and then define clarity in his or her own terms. Accepting chaos, allowing chaos to exist, or passing down chaos all signal a lack of integrity and this does not create a culture conducive to successful projects. The primary difference between a program manager and a project manager can be summed up in the words create and comply. The program manager is responsible for creating the business environment culture the project manager complies with. The degree of the program manager’s direct control of that culture can vary, but through direct authority or organizational influence he or she is responsible for establishing the framework in which the project manager operates. The project manager ultimately is judged on the triple constraint of time, cost and scope of the project. The program manager also is judged on these three elements but at a level that is cumulative for all the projects and operations within the program. This aggregation of responsibilities for a variety of projects and operations means the program manager must make frequent trade offs between business targets and project/operational performance. Program management decisions are both tactical and strategic in nature. The strategy aspects of these decisions must consider multidimensional impacts beyond the near-term delivery dates of the project. Conversely, the project manager is challenged to deliver projects within the boundaries and framework established by the program manager. Typically, the project manager is and should be more delivery and execution focused whereas the program manager has to also be concerned with the overall health and effectiveness of the program over the long term. https://ecoursereview.com/cloud-computing-pros-and-cons-for-business-it/ 3 Types of Cloud Computing Services: IaaS PaaS SaaS Explained You Might Wonder – What Is Cloud Computer: #Cloudcomputing is a set of forms that contain certain elements that allows for on-demand, network access, scalability, and shared resources. It's a platform for managing, storing, and processing data online through the internet. Some of the cloud computing features include the following: - On-Demand Services – Available when you need it - Network Access – When using the internet as your medium - Shared Resources – All resources are gathered together and used by multiple customers - Scalability - The ability of a computer system to adapt to increasing demands The Three Delivery Models: Cloud computing provides different services based on three delivery configurations. When they are arranged in a pyramid structure, they are in the order of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. The Three Services: #SaaS - Software as a Service This service provides on-demand pay per use of the application software for users and is independent of a platform. You do not have to install software on your computer, unlike a license paid program. Cloud runs a single occurrence of the software, making it available for multiple end-users allowing the service to be cheap. All the computing resources that are responsible for delivering SaaS are totally managed by the vendor. The service is accessible through a web browser or lightweight client applications. End customers use SaaS regularly. The most popular SaaS providers offer the following products and services: Google Ecosystem including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Microsoft Office 365, and SalesForce. #PaaS - Platform as a Service This service is mostly a development environment that is made up of a programming language execution environment, an operating system, web server, and database. It provides an environment where users can build, compile, and run their program without worrying about an hidden infrastructure. You manage the data and application resources. All the other resources are managed by the vendor. This is the realm for developers. PaaS providers offer the following products and services: Amazon Web services, Elastic Beanstalk, Google App Engine, Windows Azure, Heroku, and Force.com #IaaS - Infrastructure as a Service This service provides the architecture and infrastructure. It provides all computing resources but in a virtual environment so multiple users can have access. The resources include data storage, virtualization, servers, and networking. Most vendors are responsible for managing them. If you use this service, you are responsible for handling other resources including applications, data, runtime, and middleware. This is mostly for SysAdmins. IaaS providers offer the following products and services: Amazon EC2, Go Grid, and Rackspace.com. Here is a short list of some companies that use cloud computing: iCloud – Cloud from Apple is for Apple products. You can backup and store everything from multimedia to documents online. The content is then smoothly integrated onto your devices. Amazon's AWS - When you talk about companies using cloud computing, Amazon Web Services leads the pack. It offers IaaS and PaaS to all their customers. Google Cloud – This cloud platform is universal for Google's enormous ecosystem and for other products such as Microsoft Office. It provides storage of data and collaboration along with other services that are included in their cloud computing suite. Microsoft Azure – Offered by Microsoft, it provides SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS for its software and developer tools. If you have used Office 365, then you have used SaaS. IBM Smart Cloud - This offers private, public, and hybrid distribution platforms providing a full range of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS cloud computing services for businesses. The pay as you go platform generates profits for IBM. New technology is popping up all over the internet and Cloud seems to be on the rise. This is only scratching the surface on what is already available and what will become available throughout 2017. --- 3 Types of Cloud Computing Services - IaaS PaaS SaaS Explained https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36zducUX16w #CloudComputingServices #CloudComputing --- Follow us on https://www.facebook.com/EcourseReviews https://twitter.com/EcourseReviews https://plus.google.com/+Ecoursereview/posts https://ecoursereview.com/
