- Session D-2 : Navigating Future of Work in the IoT generation (IoT세대의 미래를 탐색하다) - Abstract :Globalization, particularly in Digital Technology Globalization (flow of data, insight and value) is forcing traditional “Work” to be separated from traditional “Jobs” and traditional “Jobs” are being separated from traditional “organizations”. Between 2005 and 2015 in the United States, National Bureau of Economic Research found that approximately 95% of “net new” employment was from alternative work arrangements including gig, freelance and off-balance-sheet type of workforce. Probing deeper, we find enabling forces of the Digital Technology Globalization everywhere: Process Automation, Augmentation, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Robotics, 3D Printing, Big Data / Data Analytics, and Autonomous Vehicle, etc. are all collectively enabling IoT (Internet of Things) more reality every day. These forces will bring changes and shift values across traditional value chains, industries, geographies and countries. Since the very first Industrial Revolution, workers have had to regularly learn to work with new machines, systems and technologies. This time, as we are going through the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we are faced with much faster speed and more pervasive impact resulting in the emergence of “Hybrid Jobs” that require continuous learning and navigating through constant and complex changes. How can we point the public policy institutions, business organizations and individual workers in the most effective direction to navigate through the future of work or the work of the future?
Heated exchange as CEO of investment bank testifies, protest

03:00
(28 Apr 2010) TRUE DATE CREATED = 28-04-2010 1. Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein being sworn in for testimony at a Capitol Hill hearing, push in to Senator Carl Levin 2. Wide shot of Senate panel 3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs CEO: "The people who were coming to us for risk in the housing market wanted to have a security that gave them exposure to the housing market, and that''s what they got. The unfortunate thing, and it''s unfortunate but it doesn''t, is that the housing market went south very quickly after some of these securities, not all of them because some of them were done early, but they went. And so people lost money in it, but the security itself delivered the specific exposure that the client wanted to have." 4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Senator Carl Levin, Subcommittee Chairman of Homeland Security Committee: "You don''t believe it''s relevant to a customer of yours that you are selling a security to that you are betting against that same security. You just don''t think it''s relevant and needs to be disclosed. Is that the bottom line?" 5. SOUNDBITE: (English) Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs CEO: "Yes, and the people who are selling it in our firm wouldn''t even know what the firm''s position is." 6. Blankfein sitting before Senate panel 7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Senator Carl Levin, Subcommittee Chairman of Homeland Security Committee: "You are taking a position against the very security that you are selling and you are not troubled?" Blankfein: "Senator, again." Levin: "And you want people to believe to trust you?" Blankfein: "Senator I think people do trust us." Levin: "Why, I wouldn''t trust you. If you came to me and wanted to sell me securities and you didn''t tell me that you have a bet against that same security, you don''t think that affects my thinking?" 8. Wide shot of protesters in prison uniforms with Goldman officials'' names around their necks 9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Senator Claire McCaksill, Homeland Security Committee: ++starts on pan of witnesses++ "We have spent a lot of time going through all these documents, and let me just explain in very simple terms what synthetic CDOs are. They are instruments that are created so that people can bet on them. It''s the la-la-land of ledger entries. It''s not investment in a business that has a good idea. It''s not assisting local governments and building infrastructure. It''s gambling, pure and simple, raw gambling." 10. Witnesses seated at table 11. SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Swenson, Managing Director, Structured Products Group Trading, Goldman Sachs: "We did not cause the financial crisis, specifically to the mortgage desk, which is what I''m here to speak about. You have two panels in subsequent meetings to speak about that, about the Goldman Sachs and our businesses. We, I do no think that we did anything wrong." 12. Mid shot of clerk taking notes STORYLINE: Defending his company under blistering criticism, the CEO of Goldman Sachs testily told sceptical US senators on Tuesday that customers who bought securities from the Wall Street giant in the run-up to a national financial crisis came looking for risk. Lloyd Blankfein and other Goldman executives were lambasted by lawmakers for "unbridled greed" in an often-electric daylong showdown between Wall Street and Congress - with expletives frequently undeleted. Unrepentant, five present and two past Goldman officials unflinchingly stood by their conduct before a Senate investigatory panel and denied helping to cause the financial near-meltdown that turned into the worst recession since the Great Depression. "Unfortunately, the housing market went south very quickly," Blankfein told sceptical senators. "So people lost money in it." Satinder Singh Rekhi, managing director of R Systems speaks about IT sector in India

04:08
Satinder Singh Rekhi, Managing Director of R Systems speaks about IT industry in India. He says, "In India, one thing which happens is whatever we study, we generally necessarily don't follow that path. I interview a lot of fresh graduates they have done engineering and after that, they go into business and they have got an MBA this only happens in India and the reason that we give of course is that education is to help us develop our capabilities and we are ready to do different kinds of jobs. I was in Singapore for four years as a business executive, I got bored in Singapore so I decided to go to the United States. Singapore is a dot on the map it is a small country after sometimes shopping is of no interest so I went to U. S. to do my Masters degree while I was doing my Masters degree I worked for a software company in U. S. after working with them for four years which was a very successful period there so I am actually an accidental entrepreneur." IMF Lagarde Library of Congress

02:15
For more inspiring videos go to: https://newsplexnow.com/ The Managing Director of the IMF praised US innovation and economic leadership of the post-World War 2 world in a speech titled “Age of Ingenuity: Reimagining 21st Century International Cooperation” - the latest in the prestigious Kissinger Lecture series at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC Tuesday (December 4). Lagarde outlined how the creation of the IMF by the US and its allies at Bretton Woods was one of the initial sparks to a golden age of cooperation and collaboration that has led to the greatest period of economic growth and prosperity the world has ever seen. “This country challenged the international economic order when it needed challenging. It forged compromise when compromise was necessary. Why? Why did it do all that, benevolence? It did so Because a stronger and more stable world paid dividends for the United States,“ she told the assembled audience of US congress people and officials. She praised the role of the United States in challenging the system in the past, and called on the US to renew its commitment to working with partners to tackle the greatest challenges, such as climate change, growing inequality and improving the fairness and rules-based open trade system. “More than ever before, as was seen in 2008, what happens in one nation can impact all nations. Think about it: From weapons of mass destruction, to cyber-security, to the interconnected financial system, many of our current challenges do not recognize borders. So, when support for international cooperation falters, we must remember the lesson the United States and her allies taught the world over the last 75 years: It’s a big lesson - Solidarity is self-interest. “ Lagarde particularly pointed out her vision of a way forward by focusing on key areas of international cooperation – trade, international tax, climate and addressing corruption. She also said she had seen progress on trade at the G20 leader’s summit in Buenos Aires last weekend. “I have been saying for some time now that we need to “fix the system.” More recently I have been urging countries to “de-escalate” trade tensions. It was encouraging to see some progress on this front at the G20 over the weekend in Buenos Aires. And we must continue the de-escalation, while at the same time improving the trading system for the future.” For a full transcript version of the speech please see IMF.org

The Morality of Capitalism - executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute, Yaron Brook

01:54:38
Dr Yaron Brook, Executive Director of the Ayn Rand Institute speaks to the Oxford Guild Business Society at the Said Business School in May 2014 on the topic of 'The Morality of Capitalism'. The event was co-hosted with Liberty League in association with the Ayn Rand Institute and was a thought provoking and heated discussion on a wide range of issues. Dr Brook had flown in from the US to speak about this controversial, topical and fascinating topic and it proved to be a very exciting event. The blurb for the talk is below: Capitalism Without Guilt: The Moral Case for Freedom Capitalism has an undisputed record of wealth generation, yet it has always functioned under a cloud of moral suspicion. In a culture that venerates Mother Teresa as a paragon of virtue, businessmen sit in stoic silence while their pursuit of profits is denounced as selfish greed. Society tells businessmen to sacrifice, to serve others, to "give back"—counting on their acceptance of self-interest as a moral crime, with chronic guilt its penance. Is it any wonder that productive giants from John D. Rockefeller to Bill Gates have behaved as if profit-making leaves a moral stain that only tireless philanthropy can launder but never fully remove? It is time the world heard the moral case for laissez-faire capitalism. Dr Yaron Brook is executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute and is coauthor, with Don Watkins, of the national best-seller Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand's Ideas Can End Big Government. He is an internationally sought-after speaker and debater. He was a columnist at Forbes.com, and his articles have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Investor's Business Daily and many other publications. He is a frequent guest on national radio and television programs and is a contributing author to Neoconservatism: An Obituary for an Idea, Winning the Unwinnable War: America's Self-Crippled Response to Islamic Totalitarianism and Big Tent: The Story of the Conservative Revolution — As Told by the Thinkers and Doers Who Made It Happen (forthcoming). Dr. Brook was born and raised in Israel. He served as a first sergeant in Israeli military intelligence and earned a BSc in civil engineering from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. In 1987 he moved to the United States where he received his MBA and PhD in finance from the University of Texas at Austin; he became an American citizen in 2003. For seven years he was an award-winning finance professor at Santa Clara University, and in 1998 he cofounded BH Equity Research, a private equity and hedge fund manager, of which he is managing director and chairman. He serves on the boards of the Ayn Rand Institute, the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism and CEHE (Center for Excellence in Higher Education), and he is a member of the Association of Private Enterprise Education and the Mont Pelerin Society.
