12 Things That Ruin a First Impression Immediately

10:09
Scientists have proven that we form our first impression about someone within the first 7 seconds of meeting them, and 55% of the first impression is based on appearance. Pay attention to 12 common things you should avoid not to ruin the first impression. In his research, psychologist William F. Chaplin found that people with a weak handshake are instantly judged as being shy, anxious, uninterested, or even completely incompetent. If you place your hands on the table, don’t squeeze them too tight or lay them flat with your palms down. This makes people feel like you want to control them. Also, don’t forget about the role that culture plays here. A 2007 study showed that people who maintain eye contact during a conversation are often seen as more confident, attentive, intelligent, and trustworthy. Try not to focus the conversation only on yourself and your issues. It’s always a good idea to be attentive to your conversation partner. Tapping can indicate nervousness, irritation, or impatience. People might even think that you’re purposely trying to irritate others or draw attention to yourself. And while cracking your knuckles can help relieve stress, it’s one of the most annoying sounds according to a survey by The New York Times. A study from the University of Essex showed that even just having one’s phone on the table next to them reduces a conversation’s quality and the participants’ engagement. So leave it in your bag or in your pocket. Running late to a meeting with people you don’t know or have a formal relationship with will shed a guaranteed negative light on you. You’ll seem like an unreliable and unorganized person that doesn’t respect people enough to value their time. Music: About That Oldie Vibe Tracks Josefina Quincas Moreira Merengue de Limon Quincas Moreira Pink Lemonade Silent Partner https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS A weak handshake 0:38 Keeping your hands in the wrong position 1:25 Chewing gum 2:15 Avoiding eye-contact 3:01 Playing with your hair 3:41 Picking the wrong conversation topics 4:25 Invading someone’s personal space 5:07 Making distracting noises 5:49 Constantly checking your phone 6:34 Forgetting people’s names 7:23 Being late 8:00 The wrong attire 8:47 SUMMARY -If you wanna give the right impression of confidence and capability, remember to grip the other person’s hand firmly and for no longer than 2 seconds. -Put your hands on your lap if you want, but never keep them in your pockets because this gives the impression that you’re hiding something. -Chewing on gum makes you look immature, self-centered, and somewhat low-brow. -Don't be afraid to lock eyes with another person from time to time instead of constantly looking around, especially when you meet them for the first time. -If you tend to play with your hair when you’re nervous, try to kick this habit, you could be sending them the wrong message. -Play it safe and avoid the general “taboo” topics out there. They include health problems, money, religion, politics, or personal problems and complaints. -When it comes to meeting someone for the first time, keep a minimum of 4 feet between the two of you. -It can be nearly impossible to control nervous tapping, but you have to try, especially during important meetings or presentations. -Even if you’re just checking the time on your screen, it comes off as extremely impolite when you do it during a conversation. -Immediately repeate someone’s name after you’ve been introduced. In case you forget the name, just play it cool and try to avoid using phrases where you have to name the other person. -Leave your house in enough time so that you don’t have to run to your meeting. You’ll be all disheveled and unfocused, and that looks bad too. -If you’re meeting somebody for the very first time, again, especially in more formal situations, try to be conservative in your choice of clothing, be polished, and don’t use heavy perfume or tons of makeup. 7 Greatest Conversation Starters That Actually Work

06:26
Being a great conversationalist can be challenging. I have struggled with it myself prior to meeting Dorian, and the absolute hardest part and often overlooked is the way to get INTO a conversation in the first place. So I asked Dorian (the best conversationalist I've ever met) to join me to do a video about the 7 greatest conversation starters that actually work - which have been battle-tested by myself and Dorian for years now. What drives me nuts about the other advice I see in articles and videos is that you'd never walk up to someone out of the blue and ask some stupid question like: "What's happening?" - you already know exactly what's happening 'cus you're at the same f#$ckin place! I can't stand to see advice like this because I have struggled with how to start conversations myself and those type of small talk tips and tricks are the furthest from helpful. http://awest.me/7starters for a companion article to this video. http://AshleyWeston.com for more about me, what I do as a Celebrity Menswear Stylist, and other men's lifestyle related articles and videos. __________________________________ FREE MEN'S STYLE EBOOKS To download my free ebooks click here → http://awest.me/ebooks __________________________________ SOCIAL MEDIA ● Instagram → http://instagram.com/ashleypweston ● Snapchat → https://www.snapchat.com/add/ashleypweston ● Twitter → http://twitter.com/ashleypweston ● Facebook → http://facebook.com/ashleywestonstylist ● Pinterest → https://www.pinterest.com/ashleypweston __________________________________ HAVE QUESTIONS? 16 FAMOUS LOGOS WITH A HIDDEN MEANING (That We Never Even Noticed)

06:28
How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! How language shapes the way we think | Lera Boroditsky

14:13
There are about 7,000 languages spoken around the world -- and they all have different sounds, vocabularies and structures. But do they shape the way we think? Cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky shares examples of language -- from an Aboriginal community in Australia that uses cardinal directions instead of left and right to the multiple words for blue in Russian -- that suggest the answer is a resounding yes. "The beauty of linguistic diversity is that it reveals to us just how ingenious and how flexible the human mind is," Boroditsky says. "Human minds have invented not one cognitive universe, but 7,000." Cultural difference in business | Valerie Hoeks | TEDxHaarlem

12:18
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. One of the elements of the cultural difference between Europe and China is the importance that is given to relationships. In the West you would assume the importance to be the same, but there is a significant distinction. In China connections with the right people help you to get things done, to survive and to succeed. Whereas in the West content is predominant, in China the way people interact with each other strongly influences the working environment. 'Face' and long-term effects are taken into consideration. Valérie Hoeks (1982) studied Sinology at the Leiden University and has been active in China for over a decade as a traveller, a student and later as an entrepreneur. As soon as she set foot on Chinese soil she knew she would come back many times. In 2010 Valérie co-founded China Inroads in collaboration with with her Dutch and Chinese business partner. China Inroads provides a strong foothold for innovative companies that want to expand their business to the Chinese market. 6 BEST Digital Marketing Tools to Grow Your Business Online

10:44
What tools should you be using on your website to market your business? Today Neil shares his six favorite digital marketing tools. ►►Subscribe here to learn more of my secret SEO tips: https://goo.gl/ScRTwc Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/neilkpatel/ Read more on my blog: https://neilpatel.com/blog 1:30 The first digital marketing tool that you guys should use is Google Analytics. It tracks your visitor count if you have a lot of traffic. They'll sample the data unless you pay like a hundred or a hundred and fifty grand or whatever their price is per year. Google Analytics will show you how people are engaging throughout your site and what traffic sources are causing most conversions. Don't optimize for traffic. Optimize for traffic that causes conversions. 3:00 The second digital marketing tool I have for you is Ubersuggest. You're going to want to get rankings. You're going to want more search traffic. It's the most consistent traffic that you'll get. Yes. Social media traffic is easier and quicker to get. But Google's algorithm updates aren't as crazy as Facebook's. It won't be where one day you're getting 300,000 visitors from Facebook organic reach and the next day you're getting 10,000 visitors. Google's organic traffic is very, very consistent. So use Ubersuggest. 3:40 The third digital marketing tool I have for you is Google Search Console. We love doing this internally, where we take Google search console, we log in; we look at all the posts, how many impressions they get, how many clicks they get and the click-through rate. We look for the posts that get less than a five percent click-through rate. We look at all the keywords that were getting impressions from that post, and then we integrate those keywords into that blog post or that landing page, and we rewrite that content. 7:30 The fourth digital marketing tool is Crazyegg. Crazyegg shows me how people are engaging with my website. How far they're scrolling. Where they're clicking. It allows me to take that data and, within Crazyegg, you don't have to be a developer, you don't have to be a designer. You can adjust your page and run A/B tests to maximize your sales. Because it's not just about getting traffic, it's about converting those visitors into conversions. Another tool that I love using is called Subscribers. It's through push notifications. People will come through to your website, but they don't come back. 8:00 The fifth digital marketing tool is called Subscribers. It's through push notifications. People will come through to your website, but they don't come back. What it does is it puts a little browser notification when people come to your site and gets them to subscribe without being obtrusive, it does it all within the browser. 9:00 The last digital marketing tool that I'm going to give you guys that you guys should check out is HubSpot. HubSpot's a great tool to look at your overall marketing, your lead count. It integrates marketing with sales, and that's why I want to end with HubSpot. I love it. I use it, and sure some people may say "Hey, there are other tools that do this or that." HubSpot has a lot of free plans, and they have some startup plans, which is very entrepreneur friendly, and best of all is they keep adding more and more stuff for free, so why not? They're a huge billion dollar company that are trying to crush their competitors, so they're just releasing a lot of stuff for free. Hey, that's for your benefit. 10:00 All this data and these digital marketing tools, with no action, is useless. You're better off saving the money and not even paying or using any of them. So that's it. Thank you for watching this week's Q&A Thursday video. If you want your questions answered, leave a comment below. Let us know you want it answered on a Q&A Thursday video. Maybe we'll select it. Either way, if you leave a comment below, I'll answer it no matter what. Please, like, share, review, whatever it is. This video, The more people that know about it, the more people I can help, the happier I'm going to be. As you can see, I don't promote my services or anything from my content. I'm just looking to help people. So I would appreciate it if you can share the content.

11 Secrets to Memorize Things Quicker Than Others

10:46
We learn things throughout our entire lives, but we still don’t know everything because we forget a lot of information. Bright Side will tell you about 11 simple memorizing tips that will help you remember everything and improve your memory. TIMESTAMPS Why we forget things 1:04 How to remember everything 2:00 How to memorize something quickly 2:30 How to memorize something for a long time 3:20 Try to understand what you learn 4:17 Learn the most necessary information 5:11 Serial position effect 5:45 Interference theory 6:06 Learn opposite things 7:22 Build your own «mind palace» 7:22 Use «nail words» 8:19 Make up stories 8:40 Use a tape recorder 9:10 Visualize 9:51 Choose only the best materials 9:59 SUMMARY - Your brain is like a hard drive — the space is limited. Remember Sherlock Holmes? He couldn’t name all the planets of the Solar system — this was not because he missed school or something like that, but because he was too smart to have such irrelevant information in his memory. He deliberately erased facts he would never need. This is what your brain does: it protects you from overloading with information. That’s why all new data is stored in the short-term memory, not the long-term one. So, if you don’t repeat it or use it, you forget it very quickly. A German psychologist, Hermann Ebbinghaus researched the memory and its mechanisms. He described the Forgetting Curve which shows that just one hour after learning something new we forget more than half of the learned information. One day later we remember only about 30% percent. Well, you see where this is going. - There is a memorization technique called «Spaced repetition». To keep some information in your head for a longer time, you need to try to put it into your long-term memory. Forced memorization is not very effective in this case because your brain can’t make sense of the information quickly and form strong associations. Here it all depends on the reason why you are learning something. - To memorize something quickly, repeat the information right after learning it. The second repetition should be after 15-20 minutes. You don’t need to return to the information between repetitions — just rest and do something different. Let your brain relax. Repeat the learned material the third time after 6-8 hours. And you should have the final repetition 24 hours after the first contact with the information. Do you know any other memorizing tips? If yes, share them in the comment section below! Secrets Flight Attendants Never Tell Passengers

11:44
top 10 facts you didn't know about airlines and flight attendants Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Flying on an airplane can be an awesome experience, but there is so much more going on than we see when we travel at high altitudes. Your friendly flight attendant may be quick with a smile and a glass of water for you, but there are some things they just won’t tell you. Like, don’t drink that water unless it came out of a bottle! In fact, you’ll be surprised to learn that you may not even want to use that water for washing your hands with. We know that germs can gather on an airplane, but we’ll tell you where those nefarious germs are most likely to be hiding, and it might not be where you think. We’ll also explain why they dim the lights before takeoff, and what happens if you don’t put your oxygen mask on in time. The poor quality of airline food has been fun of enough, so we are here to somewhat defend it with some basic science. First class may seem like the ultimate luxury, but in the case of an actual emergency, it’s the worst place you can be. And although airlines want to make you feel safe, they neglect a lot of expensive safety measures that could make you drastically safer. Haven’t you ever wondered why the flight attendant’s seats and seat belts look different than yours? We’ll also let you in on some secrets about what the pilots are doing while they’re supposed to be flying the plane. 15 Examples of Japanese Etiquette That Will Drive You Crazy

12:37
We've put together some mind-blowing rules of courtesy from Japan. Breaking them would seriously offend your Japanese friends or colleagues. Have you ever dreamt of visiting Japan? Seriously, who hasn’t? It is famous for its high-speed trains, colorful cherry blossom and kimonos, yummy sushi and incredible etiquette rules. Apparently, there is a ceremony and a set of rules for even the most routine things in the Land of the Rising Sun. TIMESTAMPS Addressing people 0:46 Exchanging business cards 2:06 Giving praise 2:56 Punctuality 3:45 In an elevator 4:30 Subways 5:09 Touching 5:38 Keeping it clean 6:04 Eating outside 6:51 Alcoholic drinks 7:57 Money 8:34 The art of sitting properly 9:09 Gifts 9:40 Bowing 10:42 Taking leave 11:33 SUMMARY - To address people by name is not enough in Japan. Our usual Miss and Mister last name won’t work either. And even the respectful title “-san“ is only the tip of the iceberg. There are actually more appropriate suffixes for addressing or referring to different people. - Exchanging business cards is a whole ritual. Make sure your card’s front side is facing your counterpart. Offer it with both hands. If your rank is lower than your partner’s, hold the card lower than they do. - The Japanese believe that "You can easily break a single arrow, but not ten in a bundle." In other words, group solidarity is much more important than individual success to them. - Timekeeping means so much to the Japanese they are surrounded by clocks. Every park, store and even many of the billboards have clocks in them. When a train is one minute late, the railway company will make an announcement with their sincere apologies. - If you are a tourist in Japan, try not to be the first to enter an elevator! Unless you really want to be the captain. The position is not paid though, and you don’t get a cool captain’s hat. - On the subway, there are some restrictive rules that the Japanese are expected to follow: talking is not allowed (on the phone as well), and it’s impolite to stare at others. - In Japan, it’s rude to look people in the eyes, let alone touch them. This country is not very large, so every Japanese person respects the personal space of others. - If you visit a Japanese home, prepare to take your shoes off before you enter. You will get slippers instead. - One thing to remember here is that you can’t bring your own food or drinks to the stall (which makes sense) and you can’t occupy your table for too long as there are other people waiting. - The Japanese have a strange attitude toward money: for some reason, they are embarrassed to show it in public. Therefore, money envelopes decorated in a traditional manner are very popular here. - If you are a tourist or a senior and spread out your legs, you’ll certainly get away with it, and no one will say anything. But it would be unimaginably inappropriate for a Japanese person to sit so. - You have to be very careful if you want to give someone flowers in Japan. Lilies, lotus blossoms, camellias and any white flowers, in general, are reserved for funerals. Potted plants will not be appreciated because of superstitions. - The art of bowing is so important in this country that children learn it at an early age. - In Japan, a customer or business partner is almost a god and is treated with incredible respect. When they leave, the whole company follows them to the door or elevator and keeps bowing until the doors are closed. 20+ Psychology Tricks to Read Anyone Like a Book

11:06
We get over 55% of information through nonverbal communication, like facial expressions, gestures, and other body movements. Pay attention to the signals that other people send without even realizing it. You’ve probably wondered how convenient life would be if you could read other people's minds. Some people use their intuition for this, but if you’re not so perceptive, there’s only one choice left: learning to read people's body language. TIMESTAMPS Closing their eyes 0:45 Covering their mouth 1:00 Chewing on their glasses 1:26 “Presenting” their face 1:52 Rubbing their chin 2:16 Crossed arms 2:34 Fixing their posture 3:02 Leaning forward 3:22 Leaning back 3:50 Swinging from their heels to their toes 4:14 Rubbing their hands 4:37 The "glove" handshake 4:59 A handshake with the palm facing the floor vs ceiling 5:29 Cupping someone’s hands during a handshake 5:57 A handshake with a touch 6:25 Fixing their tie 7:09 Collecting imaginary lint 7:30 Putting their feet on the desk 7:50 Mounting a chair like a horse 8:11 Playing with their shoe 8:35 Eye contact 8:57 Avoiding eye contact 9:34 Unbroken staring 9:50 A lot of blinking 10:16 SUMMARY - If a person is talking to you and closing their eyes, you should know that they’re trying to hide from the outside world. - A few fingers, a palm, or even a fist near the mouth helps us hold back the words we don't want to let out. - If you see someone chewing on the earpieces of their glasses, try having a heart-to-heart with them and cheering them up. They’re definitely subconsciously worried about something. - Crossed arms are a clear sign that a person is not feeling it today. - When a woman wants a man to notice her, she tries to present herself in the best way possible. She straightens her back to emphasize her breasts, and she may also cross her legs. - When people like someone and want to get to know them, they usually lean forward. - If someone sits back in their chair, they’re showing that they’re tired of the conversation and don't want to keep it going. - If a person doesn't swing back and forth but bounces up and down on their toes, it might be a sign that they’re feeling confident. - Rubbing the hands together generally means that a person has a positive feeling about something, and they’re hopeful. - While you’re shaking hands with someone, if that person takes your wrist with their free hand, they’re showing that they’re trustworthy, friendly, and honest. 08:26
15 WhatsApp Secret Features You Probably Didn’t Know About. Did you know how to find out the exact time someone read your message? Watch the video and learn all these amazing WhatsApp hacks! It's no wonder that in recent years WhatsApp became a huge part of our lives – it's convenient, quick and easy to use. Pretty much everyone has a large WhatsApp contact list and spend hours each day to catch up with their families, friends or plan some events! TIMESTAMPS How to change the font on WhatsApp 0:35 How to change font style on WhatsApp 1:04 Most popular contacts on WhatsApp 1:36 Muting group chats 2:03 How to make personal information private 2:33 Stop auto-saving 3:07 How to add dates to the calendar 3:35 Add a chat link to your home screen 4:01 How to send a message using Siri 4:28 Back your chat messages 4:53 Send a giant beating heart 5:27 Star the messages 5:49 How to secretly read messages 6:20 How to disable previews 7:03 Find out the exact time someone has read your text 7:33 SUMMARY - Just simply put this ` symbol three times before and after your text message! Like this, ` ` ` Hello!` ` `. - For bold messages, you have to put asterisks before and after your message (*Hello!*). You can send italics messages by adding underscores (_Hello!_). And your message can also be transformed to strikethrough by using tildes (~Hello!~). Plus, you can combine these styles by putting two or even all three symbols together (_~*Hello!*~_). - This works only on iOS devices. You can do that by heading to Settings and then picking Account and Storage Usage. You'll see the list of all your WhatsApp contacts and groups as well as the total number of messages you've sent and received for each one of them! - If there is some group chat or a person that's constantly bothering you with endless messages, you can simply mute it. Just pick the chat, click on its name or the name of the contact on top of the screen and select mute. You'll have an option to mute it for 8 hours, a week or even a year! - Go to Settings, then click Account and select Privacy. Here you can control what users will see your profile picture, status and last time you were seen on WhatsApp. - If you're sick and tired of constantly deleting unnecessary photos that your contacts message you, you can turn the auto-saving off. Again, go to Settings, then select Chats and turn off Save Incoming Media. - If you type a certain date in your message, it will appear as a hyperlink. If you tap on it, you'll be given an option to create an event in your calendar. So you can simply plan some adventures with your friends, work meetings or any other important events right from your WhatsApp. - If you're texting somebody pretty much all day or have a favorite chat that you need quick access to, you can easily add a link to it to your home screen. This works for Android devices. All you need to do is tap and hold on a chat and then click on three vertical dots on the top right of your screen and choose Add Conversation Shortcut. - Just say “Hey, Siri, send a WhatsApp to” and name the contact needed. - If you like to read old messages and get nostalgic from time to time, you can always back your history up on iCloud (for iPhone users) or Google Drive (for Android). If you have an iPhone and you want to back up a certain chat, just click on its name, then on the name of the contact and you'll see an option E-mail conversation. - If you want to express your feelings for someone in a whole other dimension, just send a red heart alone without any other emojis or words. You may think it's nothing much, but amazingly enough, it turns into a big beating heart. - For iOS users, there is a simple solution. Just double tap on a message and select the star icon. - When you receive a message don't open it right away and dismiss all the notifications. Then, set your phone on airline mode that will turn your Wi-Fi or Internet connection off. After that just open your app and read the text. - . WhatsApp thought about that and allowed its users to disable those little previews. To do so, you have to go to Settings, click Notifications and there you'll see the option Disable Show Preview. - Hold on any of your messages you're interested in and choose Info. There you'll see the time your message was sent and also the time it was read. Which one of these features did you like the most? Did you know about some of them?
