Trading Talk Episode 7 - Meet Trade View (Hong Kong Style)

06:00
Welcome to Episode 7 of Trading Talk. This episode is a little bit different. We've been invited to present in Hong Kong for a company called 'Master of Trend' and we are looking forward to providing algorithmic trading services to their clients. This is the video that Master of Trend produced for their clients, to introduce Trade View. It's a great video, so we thought it would be a good way for us to introduce some of the traders on the desk here. The video is produced in 'Hong Kong Style' (the interviews are in English) so I hope you enjoy. We'll be back with the systems building videos next episode; until then enjoy the video.

How 156 years of British rule shaped Hong Kong

From statues of Queen Victoria to double decker buses, British culture and lifestyle is baked into the culture at every turn. Both the history and the current-day British influence are visually fascinating stories and in this episode I show it all -- exploring Britain’s imperial history, which includes opioid trade, discrimination and a divided city, and then showing the effects of that history, resulting in a city that is unlike any I’ve visited. Best City In The World? 5 Things to do in Hong Kong!

10:12
Yo Guys! We have a FREE WEBINAR COMING UP! Learn How I Made $70k In 1 Month as a college dropout - JOIN NOW https://fous.ly/webinarfous4 I have always thought San Diego was the best city in the world. But that notion has now been questioned after spending a week in Hong Kong and I have only seen the tip of the Ice Berg here! It's truly and amazing city. But the cost of living is extreme! So Heres 5 Things to do in Hong Kong : Shopping , Victoria Peak, Trickeye Museum, Wax museum, and the Sky Terrace. In fact, Hong Kong has had the least affordable real estate prices for 7 years in a row. Got a few mill in cash set aside for a house? Get ready to live in a sh*t box lol. I have found some reasonable monthly airbnb's for around $4-5k/month. But to live in something nice like i had in San Diego its more so around $10-15,000/month for rent which is insane! In our tour we were looking for the top and best things to do in hong kong and Going to Victoria Peak was listed as one of them. It was stunning! The view of Hong Kong is so amazing i absolutely love it here. If you are looking for one of the best cities in the world to travel, live, day trade, eat, shop, love, etc . Hong Kong is maybe my new favorite city! Learn How I Made $14k here http://fous.ly/2mJwU9f I've been a Day Trader for 12 years and a digital nomad for just 2 weeks. Parallel trading in Hong Kong/Shenzhen & Tailor made suit

10:44
We went to Hong Kong to buy our wedding rings there, so I had the chance to show you how the situation in Sheng Shui and at the Luohu border/train station is. I also went to pick up my finished tailor made suit and the traditional Chinese red Tángzhuāng/唐装 at Luohu Commercial City, the shopping mall beside the border checkpoint where you can buy all sorts of faked products. On the 5th floor you can find mostly tailor shops. I went to "Shanghai New Age Dress/上海新代洋服 (5F5090)". I also bargained a bit and the employees can speak a bit English.

Hong Kong: Empty trading floor, flourishing financial sector

Hong Kong's contribution to China's GDP plummeted in percentage terms as the mainland's growth accelerated over the past 20 years – but this is no reflection on the SAR's financial services sector. Home to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) and offices of major international banks and insurers, the city remains an alluring venue for trade and investment. Its finance industry has played an important role in the opening up of China's economy. HK Traders Bid Farewell to Iconic Stock Exchange Trading Floor

02:02
Traders and guests gathered at the trading floor of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Friday for one last time to commemorate its three decades' services as the era of trading floor came to an end. It was a festive atmosphere for a bitter-sweet farewell party, where the traders said goodbye to the city's historic trading hall. The trading floor opened in 1986. In its heyday, over 1,400 traders, in the requisite red vests, crowded into the booths. One former trader said back then one needed a loud voice, a clear memory and a good relationship with other traders to get deals done. They shouted through the 1987 "Black Monday" crash, the dot-com bubble, the "SARS" outbreak and other historic market events. Electronic trading introduced in 1993 marked a shift away from those face-to-face deals, and a major upgrade in 2000 that let brokers offer services online made floor trading obsolete. Recently only about 30 traders could be found on the floor on any given day, and the atmosphere is definitely more subdued. Still Friday's event was tinged with nostalgia. "Of course it's a shame. I grew up here. I've been here since the start [of the trading floor]," said a former trader. "It's a big shame. After all this is Hong Kong's local culture and part of our heritage. Of course it's better if we have it, but if we don't we still have to look forward," said another former trader. The closure of the Hong Kong trading floor means the New York Stock Exchange is the only major world stock exchange to still have a floor. Hong Kong Stock Exchange officials do not want the city's history as a commercial and financial hub to be forgotten. Once the traders move out, renovators will move in to remake the space into a museum and conference and exhibition center. "We're all looking to the future. We're going to convert this into something that not only reminds us of the great memories and great history that we have had, but also allow us to proceed into the future and allow this place, right in the heart of Hong Kong, to become a real landmark of the financial community in Hong Kong," said Charles Li, chief executive of Hong Kong Stock Exchange. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20171030/8064889.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

Phone maker Xiaomi shares slip in trading debut in Hong Kong

02:38
(9 Jul 2018) Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corporation shares have slipped in its first trading day in Hong Kong following a multibillion-dollar initial public offering. Trading on Monday opened at 16.60 Hong Kong dollars ($2.11) per share, below Xiaomi's offering price of 17 Hong Kong dollars ($2.17). Its shares lost about 4 percent in early trading but recovered most of that later in the morning. Xiaomi helped to pioneer the trend for ultra-low-priced smartphones and says it plans to become an equipment-and-hardware brand alongside Apple Inc. The 8-year-old company has yet to give details of how that business model will work outside China. Beware of ESL Teaching Job with STL Trading Hong Kong

02:30
If you are thinking of working as an ESL teacher in China, I would like to make you aware of my experience working a 6 month contract in Southern China. In the summer of 2016, I completed my Tesol certification course with oxford seminars and was offered an opportunity to teach in China through their placement service. Oxford Seminars had referred me to one of their so called “partners”. I signed on for a 6 month teaching contract with STL TRADING HONG KONG, in Guangzhou China. And what followed was a very unpleasant experience. Contract clarifications and what is expected of you: 1st .You’re not guaranteed a job on arrival, you need to go to several schools and interview to secure a job. Which could possibly take weeks. 2nd .You are expected to make up hours lost during holidays or sick days, therefore 6 day weeks can occur quite often. And this sixth day isn’t even paid, it just allows you to take a day off later in the month at the school’s convenience. Also Lunch and dinner hours need to be made up. 3rd .Holidays are not paid, therefore deducted from your already low salary. 4th .Some of the schools you are brought to for interview are of very low standards and comprised of very unprofessional staff. Their only priority is to sign on as many kids as possible. 5th .STL will not side with you, nor find a compromise, should there be a work related conflict. 6th .When bringing up unprofessional behaviour by school staff, or excessive workload, STL will berate you for displeasing the schools demands. 7th .Several teachers leave after their first few weeks. This should tell you something. 8th .The major issue, and why I decided to make this video. If they want, STL trading Hong Kong can choose not to pay you for whatever reason. This happened to me. I worked for one month and was not paid, and told to leave the country. The reason being. “not meeting the schools expectations”. I basically worked one month for absolutely nothing. This experience has cost me an enormous amount of money, time and mental distress. If you do choose to go ahead with this, just be cautious as you have absolutely no leverage whatsoever. Take care

Trading in Hong Kong, bank shares

APTN 1. Hong Kong harbour and skyline 2. Exterior of Bank of China 3. Various of newspaper headlines saying the share issue is oversubscribed APTN 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Segal, Far East Economic Review "Well it was at the higher end of the range that we've come to expect would be the price and I think probably it was a price they figured they could get away with. We've written somewhat sceptically about this offer and we've said its not a particularly good deal at this price. But knowing how oversubscribed it was the bankers I guess didn't care so they got the price they could get and you can't blame them for that." APTN 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Edmond Lee, Sun Hung Kai Research Ltd. "I think right now the price is set at about 1.6 to 1.7 times the book price value. We see this as an acceptable price but of course right now we see the overall market sentiment and we think maybe the BoC (Bank of China) price when it comes up will have a little bit of selling pressure." 6. Various of electronic boards in window showing exchange rates and share prices APTN 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Edmond Lee, Sun Hung Kai Research Ltd. "I suspect the share price will go up in the short term and I think probably a lot of people who don't believe fundamentally in this stock would have bought it anyway because it was so oversubscribed that they would try and get a quick hit profit on the first day. So I imagine it will go up. In the longer term I think it might have some trouble keeping to its issue price." APTN 8. Wideshot, interior of stock exchange 9. Electronic board 10. "If I'm right, (they have) raised the third largest capital in the IPO (Initial Public Offering) in the world so I believe following (Bank of China) we believe there will be some more Chinese banks, like the Communications Bank, will come up to Hong Kong for listing. People are expecting that. So we all hope that the BoC listing will come out good so it will give confidence to the investors." 14. Graph showing Hang Seng market rises and falls 15. Pan up Bank of China building STORYLINE: The Bank of China has raised at least 2.5 (b) billion (US) dollars from the sale of shares in its flagship Hong Kong unit, after pricing shares at the upper end of expectations despite tumbling U.S. stocks. Applications for shares in the bank were at least 15 times over-subscribed, allowing the bank to set the share price at 8.50 (HK) dollars (1.10 US dollars) per share. The shares will debut on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong on Thursday. The 2.3 billion shares represent 21.74% of the bank's total issued share capital. Meanwhile, fears about a wilting U.S. economic recovery chipped away at share prices in Asia on Monday, after news of U.S. telecommunications giant WorldCom's bankruptcy arrived just as markets opened across the region. Asian bourses started with a spate of selling, taking their cue from the plunge on Wall Street last week. By late Monday afternoon in Hong Kong, the benchmark Hang Seng Index shed 187.12 points, or 1.81 percent to stand at 10,138.34. In Tokyo, Asia's biggest stock market, the benchmark index slid and then recovered slightly but settled lower at the end of the session. Korean, Taiwanese and Singapore markets were also down. The WorldCom bankruptcy is just the latest in a series of corporate collapses in the United States that have stirred up fears in Asian stock markets. Hong Kong's Asian financial centre closes trading floor after three decades

02:33
(20 Oct 2017) Hong Kong's last remaining stock market floor traders are taking their final orders as the exchange prepares to shut its trading hall, joining other world exchanges in going fully automated. The bourse's operator, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, says it will close the trading hall by the end of the month and turn the space into a showcase for the city's financial markets. Yip Wing-keung, a trading manager at brokerage Christfund Securities, has been a floor trader since the hall opened in 1986 after four previous exchanges were merged. He donned his red trading jacket for the last time on Friday, his final day on the floor, after more than 30 years. He and the other few floor traders left have been moving out ahead of the closure. The shutdown marks the end of an era for the stock market, which symbolised the city's ascent as an Asian finance hub. Activity on the floor, one of a few such venues left worldwide, dwindled as stock dealing became fully computerised. Yip said the floor traders resisted the closure; they sent a protest letter to the government but it was in vain. Hong Kong's stock exchange, Asia's third biggest by volume, follows other global peers like Tokyo, Singapore and London that have eliminated their trading floors. In the US, floor traders at the New York Stock Exchange still provide the backdrop for financial TV news reports and bell-ringing ceremonies. But Chicago and New York commodity futures trading pits, where traders used old-fashioned "open outcry" techniques, have shut in recent years as volume fell to 1 percent of the total. Hong Kong Exchanges stopped updating stats for floor trading in 2014, when it accounted for less than 1 percent of monthly turnover. In the 1980s and 1990s the hall housed more than 900 trading desks. The exchange's most recent count showed only 62 dealing desks were leased, with about 30 traders showing up on an average day. On a visit to the hall this week, only about seven traders could be seen. Back in its heyday, floor trading was computer-assisted but dealers still needed to talk to each other to complete transactions, either by phone or in person, depending on how far away they sat from each other, Yip said. In recent times however, Yip just punched orders into his computer. He doesn't look forward to returning to his head office. HONG KONG: HANG SENG INDEX LOSES 4.4 PER CENT IN EARLY TRADING

02:57
English/Nat Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was sharply lower in Friday morning trade, extending Thursday's slide. At one point, the index slid through 10,000 points, falling 4.4 percent. The downward spiral continued in Hong Kong Friday, with early morning trading on the Hang Seng Index down 2.32 percent to 10,122.71. And the trouble wasn't over. The Hang Seng continued its slide through 10,000 points, falling 455 points, or 4.4 percent, to a session low of 9,907 during the morning. Some analysts believe the Hang Seng is taking a hit because of momentum more than underlying fundamentals. SOUNDBITE: (English) "We are talking about fundamentals against short term jittery, caused by I hate to say but highly speculative money, not necessary this money is based on fundamental factors. They're trading on momentum, and unfortunately Asia at this point in time is providing the perfect setting for people to wreck this market for their needs. SUPER CAPTION: Eugene Law, Director, Lippo Securities Banking stocks led the decline after prompting a 402.44-point, or 3.74-percent, slide in the Hang Seng Index on Thursday. HSBC Holdings PLC dropped HK$5.00 to HK$168.50 on Friday and Hang Seng Bank Ltd fell HK$3.25 to HK$63.00. If current problems persist, the market will have to rethink other stocks including metals like copper. SOUNDBITE: (English) "If interest rates to be sort of drag on at high current or relatively high levels for another month, then we really have to rethink our copper earnings and things like that. Um, its too early. We are still hopeful and for whatever reason that the currency speculators will be away soon but of course the reality is its difficult to think of a reason. They are making a good sort of killing here that they should give it up. " SUPER CAPTION: Eugene Law, Director, Lippo Securities November Hang Seng Index futures fell 210 points to 9,890. With such a dismal overall picture, some believe there is only one sure bet - a return to the savings account. SOUNDBITE: (English) "One very obvious sort of alternative, or probably the only alternative for a lot of people at this point in time is to put the money in your deposit accounts, actually with interest rates. At the height of the problem with the interbank rates pushed up to on an overnight basis 300 percent, I remember one bank offered a one month fixed deposit with a rate of 30 percent. " SUPER CAPTION: Eugene Law, Director, Lippo Securities Total market turnover on the Hang Seng was HK$3.38 billion (US$437 million after the first 35 minutes of trading.
