This Is the Future of Education

01:38
Pundits are always selling the latest and greatest "future of education." But what if the answer is already in the room? In this illustrated video, I share some thoughts on the future of education. Enjoy this video? Please subscribe to the channel: http://bit.ly/spencervideos Here are my thoughts on the future of education. Sketched out by hand. Transcript: The future of education can’t be found in a gadget or an app or a program or a product. It doesn’t require a think tank full of pundits. No, the future of education can be found in your classroom. Your classroom is packed with creative potential. You have all the innovation you need right there in your room. You have the power to make it happen. It’s what happens when you experiment. It’s what happens when you give your students voice and choice. It’s what happens when you abandon the scripted curriculum and take your students off-road in their learning. It’s what happens when you teach to your students rather than teaching to the test. It’s what happens when you unleash the creative power of all of your students - when you make the bold decision to let them make things and design things and solve problems that they find relevant. Sometimes it’s messy and even confusing. It often looks humble. But understand this, that every time your students get the chance to be authors, filmmakers, scientists, artists, and engineers. You are planting the seeds for a future you could have never imagined on your own. And that right there is the beauty of creative classrooms. That’s the power of innovative teachers. And the truth is, that is why the future of education is you.

Cathedral building is the perfect example of legacy work because it no person can create a cathedral in isolation, just like a legacy. It also takes hundreds of people to research and help solve adult illiteracy. As the leader of the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning at WestEd, Tracy brings a wealth of experience identifying, describing, and researching innovative education practices and trends and connecting researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. She has researched trends in college and career readiness, high school reform, digitally enhanced education, and Common Core standards for organizations such as Google, the Gates Foundation, the Institute of Education Sciences, and the CORE districts in California. Previously, Huebner worked at the Harvard Children's Initiative as a lecturer and researcher on complex evaluations for school-based programs. Huebner received an MA and Ph.D. in education from Stanford University and completed postdoctoral work at Harvard University as a Spencer Fellow in Education. Top 5 Technologies in 2018

Top 5 Technologies in 2019 : https://youtu.be/aCY1GyKVpBw Python Tutorial for Beginners: https://goo.gl/cLKYQP 5 skills for IT Professional: https://goo.gl/ba6Ui7 Top 5 technologies to learn in 2018. Technologies are : IoT (Internet of Things) Cloud Computing Blockchain Artificial Intelligence Big Data IoT : The Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. The IoT allows objects to be sensed or controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure. Cloud Computing: Cloud computing enables ubiquitous access to shared pools of configurable system resources and higher-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort, often over the Internet. Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economy of scale, similar to a utility. Third-party clouds enable organizations to focus on their core businesses instead of expending resources on computer infrastructure and maintenance. Cloud providers typically use a "pay-as-you-go" model. Blockchain: A blockchain is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography which is resistant to modification of the data. Each block typically contains a hash pointer as a link to a previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. Blockchains are secure by design and are an example of a distributed computing system The first blockchain was conceptualized in 2008 by an anonymous person or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto and implemented in 2009 as a core component of bitcoin where it serves as the public ledger for all transactions. Artificial intelligence: AI is intelligence displayed by machines. In computer science, AI research is defined as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem-solving Big Data: Big data is data sets that are so voluminous and complex that traditional data processing application software is inadequate to deal with them. Big data challenges include capturing data, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, updating and information privacy. There are three dimensions to big data known as Volume, Variety and Velocity. Editing Monitors : https://amzn.to/2RfKWgL https://amzn.to/2Q665JW https://amzn.to/2OUP21a. Trends in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Education

47:55
Speaker: Reza Abbaschian, Dean, William R. Johnson, Jr. Family Professor and Distinguished Professor of Engineering (UC Riverside) Materials research over the last three decades has led to significant advances in the manufacturing of new materials with tailored and unique properties for a variety of applications. These advances have come about mostly because of a highly influential National Research Council study titled “Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) for the 1990’s: Maintaining Competitiveness in the Age of Materials,” that defined and delineated MSE around four basic elements of synthesis and processing, structure, properties and performance. In this presentation, an overview of the recent trends in incorporating these four basic elements in MSE education will be given, followed by an example of the MSE program at the University of California, Riverside. The program offers interdisciplinary BS, MS and PhD degrees in MSE. At the undergraduate level, the program integrates with all five engineering departments in the Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE). This new approach allows students to have meaningful interactions with engineers from other engineering disciplines who ultimately are the “end-users” of materials. At the graduate level, the UCR MSE program integrates with other disciplines such as Physics and Chemistry. Speaker Biography Reza Abbaschian began his tenure as Dean of the Bourns College of Engineering and Distinguished Professor and William R. Johnson, Jr. Professor in September 2005. Prior to his appointment at UCR, Dr. Abbaschian was the Vladimir A. Grodsky Professor of Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida, where he also served as Chair of the Department for 16 years. During his tenure, the Department rose to a U.S. News & World Report top-ten ranking for both undergraduate and graduate education. Dr. Abbaschian received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, M.S. in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Technological University, and BSc in mining and metallurgy from Tehran University. He has published more than 250 scientific articles on subjects ranging from metal processing to composites, solidification and high temperature-high pressure growth of jewelry diamonds, which led to the formation of Gemesis Diamond Company. He holds five patents and eight patent disclosures and has authored eight books, including the recently published fourth edition of Physical Metallurgy Principles. Dr. Abbaschian is a past President of ASM International, the largest materials society. His awards include the TMS Educator Award, Structural Material Division's Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award, TMS Leadership Award, ASEE Donald E. Marlowe Award, Davis Productivity Award of the State of Florida, and the Albert Sauveur Achievement Award which he received on October 2013 in Montreal, Canada. The award recognized him as "outstanding scientist and researcher in solidification fundamentals and materials processing, educator and leader in advancing the materials profession." He has been elected a Fellow of ASM, TMS and AAAS.

Adult Basic Education Is the Key to Future U.S. Economic Growth

01:16
The latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates the U.S. unemployment rate has recently fallen to 4%. Most economists agree that full employment or the natural rate of unemployment is between 4.1% and 4.7%. U.S. employers are having difficulty finding qualified employees. With the current unemployment rate at historic post World War II low points, U.S. employers are having difficulty finding qualified employees to fill a record 6.7 million job openings. What does this mean for the U.S. economy? For the first time, according to the BLS, job openings exceed the number of people currently classified as unemployed (6.0M). According to a recent article in Barron’s, this labor shortage is predicted to last for decades, as the country’s demand for goods and services will continue to grow faster than the workforce. There is a shortage of adults working or actively seeking work. The shortage of workers is compounded by the fact that labor force participation (adults working or actively seeking work) has dropped from 67% of the adult population in 2000 to 63% in 2018. According to Dr. Bill Conerly, writing for Forbes, the working age population over the next decade will be the lowest since the Civil War. The decline in available labor is due to a historic combination of demographic trends and social issues, such as immigration policy, poverty rates, the opioid crisis, and the growth in U.S. prison populations. The key to ensuring future U.S. economic growth is to bring traditionally marginalized or underemployed adults into the workforce. Fourteen percent of adults in the United States struggle with low reading, writing, and basic math skills. This includes adults that have less than a high school education, former prisoners, and non-native English speakers. In order to effectively incorporate these adults into the workforce, three key points need to be addressed: https://www.proliteracy.org/Resources/Blog/Article/363/Adult-Basic-Education-Is-the-Key-to-Future-US-Economic-Growth

What Schools Of The Future Could Be Like

06:04
Top 10 futuristic changes schools could make in the future of education. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Other Videos You Might Like Futuristic Technologies That Already Exist https://youtu.be/aVA2sF-hHTI 10 Most Unusual Schools In The World https://youtu.be/AuWfpTmds0I Description: To suggest that technology has changed the way that we understand and experience education is already a huge understatement and will only become a greater one over time. The classroom of today is a changed one, albeit still familiar to generations of past students. A whiteboard has, for the most part, replaced the old blackboard and computers can be found on some desks and in school libraries. But the brick schoolhouse remains largely the same inside and out, featuring uncomfortable, forward-facing desks and heavy textbooks. Make no mistake about it, though – change is coming. Ongoing technological developments are initiating a re-thinking of just what a contemporary scholastic experience needs to be for students today. The stagnant nature of education over the 20th century ignored changes in the sociological and behavioral make-up of students, failing to adapt and adjust to their evolving needs. Technological changes that have occurred have simply served as aids to reinforce the existing curriculum rather than transform it. No parent wants their child to be a guinea pig, serving as the test subjects for a new, unproven trial project, particularly when it is their education that’s at stake. But soon, there will be little choice but to curb teaching methods and the very infrastructure of the classroom experience to accommodate this new tech-charged culture. Social media, personal devices, smartphones and other communication technologies have necessitated a shift to personalized, digitally-centered learning while also opening doors to unique teaching opportunities never previously available. This digital era will shape every facet of the academic experience of the future. Professor Neil Selwyn, an Australian expert on education, believes that we will see a transformation that ranges from the tools used in a given lesson to the physical layout of the classroom. Meanwhile, educationalist and author Marc Prensky argues that a whole new core of subjects will be needed to cater more to getting today’s learners ready for the real world, including problem-solving, creative thinking and collaboration. Learning is being taken online, meaning that the traditional model of teachers standing in front of a class full of cramped, uncomfortable students with textbook-littered desks who are scribbling down notes is fast becoming obsolete. While implementation of a fully digital curriculum will likely be slow and come with obstacles like financial and staff training concerns, it is difficult to foresee a future of education that isn’t online. After all, remote online classes have already grown commonplace as viable, convenient alternatives to the in-class model. While some of the suggested future visions of what school will look like in the future are still pie in the sky concepts, a number of these ideas are more immediately forthcoming. Some are even in the process of being implemented right now. Whether these changes are coming now or a few years down the road, it appears safe to say that tomorrow’s students will grow up in a school system far different than the one that we experienced.
