Microsoft Access Disabling the Shift-Key
Disable the AllowBypassKey Property Sometimes we, as developers, want certain code to execute at application startup. Holding the shift-key during application startup will prevent all code from running, macros and VBA. Microsoft provides a hidden database property that allows us to prevent the shift-key from preventing our startup code from running. They do not provide a way to set this value from the Access user interface, you can only set this value using VBA. In this video we will: 1. Interrogate the value of the AllowBypassKey property 2. If the AllowBypassKey does not exist, we will create it 3. We will also set the value of the AllowBypassKey property The VBA in this video can be found here: http://accessjitsu.com/2016/01/26/microsoft-access-disabling-the-shift-key-the-allowbypasskey-property All of my videos organized by topic and other blog topics: http://accessjitsu.com/

Access 2013 for Beginners Part 8: Customizing Access Settings & Option
Get 19 hours of Access 2013 training - only $17: http://bit.ly/stream-skill-17 This tutorial will teach you all information about the Access Options which you will find at the Backstage view. The demonstration will guide you through the step-by-step usage of various options under Access Options dialog. This dialog is basically used for the purpose of enabling you to customize your installation of Access 2013 and to some extent your use of Access 2013. You will also learn about the Genaral Tab, User interface Options and a lot more tips in order to customize the settings and usage of Access 2013. Stay in touch: StreamSkill: http://streamskill.com/ SimonSezIT.com: http://bit.ly/JEWqQA YouTube Channel: http://bit.ly/foiItB Twitter: http://bit.ly/177EU5J Google+: http://bit.ly/11JbHdb If you enjoyed the video, please give a "thumbs up" and subscribe to the channel ;-) Hello again and welcome back to our course on Access 2013. In this section we’re going to look at Access Options. To do that, we’re going to go into Backstage View and one of the options, the last option in Backstage View is Options. Click on Options and that brings up the Access Options dialog and you’ll be seeing this dialog quite a bit. The basic purpose of this dialog is to enable you to customize your installation of Access 2013 and to some extent your use of Access 2013. I’m going to look at a couple of examples of Access Options in this section. But various options will occur throughout the course and we’ll be going back into this dialog to look at what the available choices are and to help you to decide how to set it up in your particular situation. The Options are arranged in a set of pages and the first page, the top one, the one that’s selected is General. If I click then on the next page, Current Database, you’ll see in the main window there that there’s a list of what are effectively options. Datasheet, again; a choice of options: Object Designers, etc. Now some of these such as Add-ins, we’re not really going to get to look at much in this course. I might mention it once or twice later on but really this is more to do with adding in extra functionality into Access which is beyond the scope of the course. Whereas things like Language where we make sure that we’ve got our language setup correctly are extremely important and we’ll be dealing with that fairly early on. So let’s go back to the General Tab first. Now I’m going to start with a section near the top of the General Tab here, User Interface Options. I’ll come back to Enable Live Preview later on in the course. I really want to concentrate as an example on this next entry, Screen Tip Style. Show feature descriptions in screen tips. I haven’t made any changes to the Access Options at the moment so I’m going to press the Cancel key and now I’d like to look at a couple of these buttons on the Ribbon here. And I want to hover first over that one. Now when I hover over a button, I see a screen tip and this screen tip says Query Design. Create a new blank query in Design View. And then it says “You can then use the Show Table dialog box to add tables or queries to the Query Design.” Now I already mentioned the fact that you sometimes see a keyboard shortcut there as well. In this case, there is no keyboard shortcut so that’s fine. But note that I have a screen tip and then I have a description of Query Design. Now let me go back into Options again and the selection there in Screen Tip Style said “Show feature descriptions in screen tips. Sorry, we couldn't fit the entire video transcription here since YouTube only allows 5000 characters.

How to Create, Disable and Change an Access Password
In this tutorial, we will teach you how to create, disable and change an Access Password. Learn how to decrypt and encrypt a database. We will teach you how to set a password or disable one in Access. We will also teach you how to decrypt a database which already has a password set. Step 1 -- Open exclusive option First of all, go to Microsoft Access and open the database that you want to work with. Click on the Microsoft button in the extreme top left corner and select the open option. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will open an existing database and will choose the open exclusive option. Step 2 -- Enter database password As a result, we will be prompted to enter the database password. Once you have entered the password, click on the ok button. Step 3 -- Enable content Next, you might be displayed with a security warning. Click on the options button and in the security alert window, check the enable this content option before clicking on the ok button. Step 4 -- Decrypt database Now go to database tools tab and click on the decrypt database option. A dialog box will appear where you will have to enter the current password in order to disable the access' database password. Once you are done, click on the ok button. On successful decryption, the decrypt database option will turn into encrypt with password. This means that currently there is no encryption on the database and you were successfully able to decrypt it. In this manner, you can disable the access database password. Step 5 -- Create a password If you want to set a new password, simply click on the "encrypt with password" option. You will be asked to enter a new password twice in order to verify it. Once you are done, click on the ok button. In this manner, you can create an Access password. Step 6 -- Enter new password Now go to the Microsoft button available on the top left corner of the screen and select the close database option. Now we will try to re-open the database. We will be prompted to enter the database password. We will enter the old database password that we decrypted earlier and will receive an error. Now enter the new password that you just set and you will notice that the database will open up. This means that we were successful in changing the Access password.

I didn't realize this while shooting the video but it makes sense. 2) If you notice Skype Group Chats stop working open up the HOSTS file and remove all of the entries containing MSN. I've had one report of this fixing the problem. ▼ Questions & Answers ▼ Q) I like Cortana so I don't want to disable that feature. A) That is fine, but just realized that Microsoft intentionally made Cortana dependent on the cloud meaning you have to give up your information, searches, contacts, calendar entries, etc to use her. You can't pick and chose what gets sent to Microsoft and still use the feature. It's all or nothing and I think this sends a bad message from Microsoft on what they are actually doing with that data. #TinfoilHat Q) Why do you hate Microsoft so much? A) I don't hate Microsoft, I worked there for 15 years as a Senior Software Developer. Windows is still my preferred platform that I use daily. What I don't like is the direction Microsoft is taking with regards to advertisement and marketing being the focus over the core operating system and innovation. Q) You should just run Linux! A) I like Linux but it's not in any position to be a replacement for an operating system like Windows. There is no Adobe support on Linux and it's not ideal for mainstream content creators and software developers. But who knows what the future holds if Microsoft keeps going down this dark street. Q) What is telemetry? A) It's Microsoft collecting data on your computer, what you search for, usage patterns, application usage, etc so they can analyze the data or use it for marketing. ** Full Disclosure: I worked at Microsoft for 15 years as a Software Developer and was laid off well over a year ago when Microsoft decided to get rid of the entire Windows test organization that I worked in. Right click on the item you wish to share, and at the bottom of the menu that appears click Properties. On the Properties window, click the Sharing tab. Locate and click on the Advanced Sharing... button. At the top, tick the box to Share this folder. By default, sharing a file or folder from Windows 10 allows other users read-only access, which means they can open it, but nothing else. If that's what you'd like to have happen, then click OK and the folder is shared. If you want to allow others to edit or delete the contents of the folder (an example of this might be where you have several computers and devices and want to be able to do anything to your files from any device) then you need to click Permissions to make these changes, and follow the instructions below. In this section we’re going to take a look at Access Options. And these are a major aspect of the customization of both your installation of Access 2016 and how you use it. If you’ve used a recent version of Access before you can probably skip this section. And in fact in this section I’m really just going to introduce you to Access Options and cover some of the most important options to set correctly at this early stage and then we’ll be returning to Access Options throughout the course as we need to look at new options in the light of new material that we cover. So to open Access Options we normally go into Backstage View and down and click on Options. You’ve seen this dialog before. And the options are arranged in pages and I’m going to start up at the first page, General. Now the first few settings there are not the most important settings in Access Options but I want to demonstrate the general principle so let’s look at one or two of those. Let’s begin with that top one, Enable Live Preview. Now it’s currently checked. Let’s just cancel the options. And let me go into Form Design. And in Form Design I’m going to click on Themes and we’re going to look at some of the themes that we might apply to this form. Watch what happens as I hover over these themes. Note how the color of the form changes and the font changes, the font size changes, etcetera. That’s because what’s happening is live preview. Now let’s go back into Access Options, let’s switch off Live Preview. Having made a change in Options I click on OK to enable and confirm that change. Let’s go through Themes again. Now let me hover over those themes again and there is no change happening. You’re not getting the live preview. Now you may say, “Well, why would I not want live preview?” For some people some aspects of how Access works can be distracting and in many cases can be completely unnecessary and can actually slow the system down in some situations. And particularly once you’ve been using Access 2016 for a while you may find that some aspects of what Access 2016 can do to help you you no longer need. Let’s look at another example. If I hover over the commands up here on the Ribbon each of them gives me a what’s called a Screen Tip. And that screen tip is the name of what this particular button is or does. So that one’s Image, that one’s Bound Object Frame, that one’s Subform Report. In some cases if I hover over a button not only do I get a name, in this case Logo, but I get a description of what it does. And if I go back into Access Options again, by the way I’m just going to enable Live Preview again, I can control those screen tips using this dropdown here. And there are three available options. Show feature descriptions, that’s the long description, Don’t show feature descriptions, Don’t show screen tips at all. If I set Don’t show screen tips, click on OK, now if I hover over those buttons that one says nothing, that one says nothing. Now again some people find those screen tips distracting and although I generally have them switched on when I’m recording a training course because it helps people to see what each of these buttons does it’s actually quite awkward because quite often those screen tips go over something that I’m trying to show you. And when you’re working with Access 2016 yourself you may find that they sometimes obscure things and you may want to switch them off. Sorry, we couldn't fit the entire video transcription here since YouTube only allows 5000 characters.
