I have bought a shoulder of lamb and paid 540 rubles but before I paid 360 rubles." 8. Wide interior of Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange 9. Wide of traders 10. Mid of traders 11. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) Alexei Gerasyuk, MICEX Spokesman: "It's not very worthwhile making predictions at the present time. Everything depends on the situation in foreign markets, most of all the USA and Europe, as well as the Russian economy. And much also depends on the dollar/euro exchange rate." 12. Currency exchange board showing US dollar/ruble rate 13. Various of street with currency exchange places 14. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) Ivan (no surname given), vox pop: "The prices are growing, especially rent and utilities, so for us war veterans, who are over 80, I'm 88, its hard but we still hope we'll overcome this." 15. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) Irina, schoolteacher (no surname given): "We are still waiting for the government to pay off the money they stole from us, so we can buy currency." 17. Set up shot of Oleg Zamulin, Professor of New School of Economics 18. SOUNDBITE: (English) Oleg Zamulin, Professor of New School of Economics: "That process (the gradual devaluation of the ruble) has hurt the Russian economy, because the banks which expect further devaluation stop giving out loans to the economy and instead convert all of their money into dollars and expect these dollars to become more valuable in ruble terms, so until this process is over, until the devaluation is finished the banks won't go back to their natural business of giving out loans." 21. Wide of queue at bank 22. Various of people in line STORYLINE: Traders and shoppers at Moscow's Dorogomilovo market are feeling the pinch of the financial crisis. With Russia's rouble falling to a new low against the US dollar and euro, trade at the market was slow in on Friday morning. Both imported goods and local produce are getting expensive. The ruble dropped 0.4 roubles against the US dollar, to 32.6 - its lowest in the history of MICEX trade. For the first time ever, the ruble fell to 43 against the euro as the Central Bank continued a policy of controlled devaluation. The ruble has been badly bruised by declining energy prices and growing economic difficulties. It has shed more than 27 percent of its value against the US dollar since its high of 23.4 in early August. Resentment is growing on the streets of Moscow as the reality of the economic crisis hits the average Russian, some of whom are still bitter about the last crisis in the 90's. Eager to avoid losing public support, Russia's government has spent tens of (m) millions of US dollars to slow the fall of the ruble, which has ordinary Russians worried after years of economic expansion. Russia's international reserves dropped 11 percent this year, to 427 (b) billion US dollars, and down 29 (b) billion US dollars in December, the Central Bank said earlier this week. Analysts say the ruble is hurt by expectations that the price of oil - which fuels the Russian economy - will continue to fall. Until then, says Oleg Zamulin from the New School of Economics, banks will refrain from giving out loans. The Central Bank apparently wants to gradually let the ruble fall to a low beneath which it will not drop under any circumstances, economists said. Observers expect the string of near-daily devaluations to stop soon, probably within a month but possibly much You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/15f7f3e862a02c9101356d8cb8c9df47 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

I am in Omsk. In this video, you can see how to get a tourist sim in Russia. Also, you will come to know how to get Russian Ruble. Instead of using a money exchanger I used an ATM which had its services available in English. Surprisingly, I got an excellent exchange rate by using the ATM. I have shared the ATM's receipt and the SMS I got from my Indian bank in the video. I don't know this happened because of the Indian bank or it was a special feature of the Russian bank which owns the ATM. I can recommend this bank's ATM to every traveller as it gives a better exchange rate. In this video, there is a query about a free offer provided by the mobile operator. Russia's currency - the ruble - hit a new all-time low on Monday, dropping about 5 percent as declining oil prices and the conflict in eastern Ukraine weighed on the country's economic prospects. The Russian currency traded at 52.75 rubles against the US dollar in morning trading on Monday after shedding 15 percent in the previous week. The ruble was also down 5 percent against the euro. Battered by low oil prices and the Ukrainian conflict, the ruble has been declining throughout the year, losing about 42 percent of this value since January. The Kremlin, which in the past supported the exchange rate by buying up the rubles, said it considered the pressure on the currency to be speculative and was happy for it to remain freely floated in markets. The price of oil, the backbone of the Russian economy, has dropped roughly 25 percent since the summer. Brent crude, an international benchmark, fell three percent on Friday and was down another one percent on Monday to 69.47 US dollars a barrel. One of the world's reserve currencies, the U.S. dollar, may soon disappear in Russia. According to deputies of the State Duma, the Russians trust the dollar, despite the U.S. crisis. Russian MPs are worried that the dollar system may collapse in 2017 due to the growth of the U.S. government debt. Michael Dyagterev, politician, member of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party "The main objective of the bill is to have a discussion. This is multi- task goal, one of the parts of which is to stop the entry of the dollar in Russia. The second task is to push our leaders towards making all our export operations, including oil and gas ones, in rubles. And, as the crown of the strategy, to create a global reserve currency called the ruble. There's nothing to fear. It's the Americans who should be worried. Their national debt is 17 trillion dollars, and it will grow from month to month. Buildup debt is a strategy of the American elite. Since debt is a process that has its end, then the process will end with a default or any other type of turmoil. We need to convert all reserves of the country into gold. No currency should be left there, all paper reserves are disastrous for Russia. This is also a part of the strategy that should be conducted." Should the bill on the ban of the circulation and storage of U.S. dollars in Russia be approved, the owners of American bank notes will have to either spend their dollar cash within one year or exchange it for another currency. Otherwise, banks will be forced to sell dollars at an average exchange rate of the previous year. There will be special measures provided to prevent the storage and use of dollars. The American currency will be seized by law enforcement agencies for a period of up to 30 days, and then exchanged and returned to the owner in the domestic currency. Michael Dyagterev, politician, member of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party. "With regard to the dollars kept by citizens, the bill stipulated no special measures. We simply encourage people to convert all their dollar deposits in rubles, exchange all cash dollars for rubles, or some reliable currency, for example, the Swiss franc, or buy gold. In the event dollars are found, the state will pay the equivalent in rubles, dollars will be withdraw from circulation and exchanged for rubles." Will the bill come into force? It is obvious that it will trigger a vivid discussion reminiscent to the never-ending debate between Westerners and Slavophiles. And whose side are you on?

Russian/Nat Russia's leading foreign currency exchange began trading the euro on Tuesday with the ruble ending slightly lower than the central bank's rate for the previous day. While Russia's commercial sector claim they will embrace the advent of the euro, financial analysts predict that the Russian economy will stay essentially dollar-controlled. The new European currency the Euro was introduced today in Russia. Moscow's currency exchange opened trading on the new currency a few weeks after the Euro's debut on the world market. Moscow's General Director of Currency Exchange Alexander Zakharov said the response to the opening of trade was very rapid. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "Within 9 seconds to be exact we already made our first trade in the Euro. It was a joint trade between Sberbank and the International Moscow Bank." SUPER CAPTION: Alexander Zakharov, General Director of Moscow Currency Exchange Although prospects for the euro look initially healthy it's not thought that the currency will overtake the U-S dollar which has long been dominant in Russia. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "All of our international sales and payments are kept in dollars so of course the dollar in the near future will continue to play a leading role in currency in the Russian financial system." SUPER CAPTION: Alexander Zakharov, General Director of Moscow Currency Exchange The delay was caused mainly by a wait for approval to trade the new currency from Russia's Central Bank. The Euro opened today at approximately 26 rubles -- comparable to the dollar which is currently at nearly 23 rubles. Besides the majority of large business transactions, most Russians keep their savings in dollars, immediately converting each ruble paycheck into dollars. At exchange houses in Moscow today, Muscovites expressed doubt that the Euro would carry much weight in Russia's dollar-oriented economy. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "I would like the ruble itself to be on a normal level, like the Euro and the Euro itself of course is not going to have much use for the regular people." SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Vladimirov, Muscovite SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "The Euro still has lots of time before it's even to be used seriously in Europe -- at least a few years. For us here in Russia the Euro is not even likely to be seen by most. For now I consider the dollar the most stable and reliable currency -- I keep all of my money in dollars, and not at the bank mind you but at home." SUPERCAPTION: Natalya Petrovna, Muscovite The Euro rate was initially set not far from today's price of 26, however Euro trading in Russia is expected to be slow as the economy runs mostly on the U-S dollar. On Thursday, the Russian ruble continued on its upward path against the US dollar on the back of recovering oil prices. “Black gold” headed north after the International Energy Agency revealed its outlook for 2016, predicting the largest drop in non-OPEC oil output in 25 years. Following the news, oil prices took an upward bounce as the IEA statement revived hopes for a sooner settlement of the global oversupply issue. The North Sea crude benchmark edged higher, now trading around $44.18 per barrel. It is worth mentioning that Brent has already surged by as much as 23% this year. On the forex front, commodity-bloc currencies were following in the footsteps of climbing hydrocarbon prices. The global crude market has been extremely volatile this year, swinging oil-linked currency instruments up and down. Today, the Russian ruble posted a strong performance against the greenback, supported by higher oil prices. A. Davydov comments, Oil prices, extending gains for four days in a row, pushed the US dollar to its lowest levels since the beginning of the year. The market has already absorbed the latest news about oil, so crude prices are stabilizing at the moment. With no major price triggers on the horizon, the US dollar will stay around the 65-ruble mark. End of comments In addition to oil, selling of export revenues added to the bullish tone in the ruble. Currency strategists believe that the Russian currency is set to close the trading week in positive territory versus its American counterpart. However, certain pressure can be observed in today’s deals as market players were looking to the ECB’s decision on interest rates. Pedestrians 15. Wide of street STORYLINE: The Russian ruble slid to a record low against the US dollar on Wednesday under pressure from the low oil price. The ruble traded above 80.6 to the US dollar in Moscow on Wednesday, down by more than two percent. That beat the mark of 80.1 set when the currency crashed in value in December 2014 before stabilising. Russia's economy and government revenues are suffering due to the country's dependence on oil, which has traded at 12-year lows in recent weeks because of a supply glut and the return of Iran to world markets. The ruble had come close to 80 on Monday but recovered ground on Tuesday after Chinese growth data met expectations. The Internatonal Monetary Fund predicted on Tuesday that Russia's economy would contract by one percent in 2016 after a fall of 3.7 percent last year, before returning to one percent growth next year. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory. The US dollar is flexing its muscles against the Russian ruble. The Russian currency is losing ground amid the lingering diplomatic standoff between Russia and the Western countries. The dollar/ruble pair is gradually approaching a monthly high. The ruble found solid support from the tax filing period in Russia, which has come to an end. Besides, the Russian currency is highly sensitive to the oil dynamic. However, today oil is trading under pressure. Brent crude benchmark grade is trading today below 68 US dollars a barrel. Energy investors are voicing fears about a looming trade war between the US and China. A drop in oil prices is cushioned by comments from Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui, the energy minister of the United Arab Emirates. He noted that the oil market has benefitted from cooperation under the OPEC production cut deal. Indeed, the agreement has solved the global oil glut problem by 85%. Concerns over the oil glut in the global market persist because of increased crude production in the US. The Brent crude benchmark dropped close to the mark of 63 dollars a barrel. The API data on the US crude oil inventories will be published later in the day. Experts assume that oil prices will suffer extra pressure. This week, the ruble’s dynamic will depend on the US dollar and crude prices. Experts say that the political situation also has a certain impact on the Russian currency. However, as long as there are no new sanctions against Russia, the ruble will hardly respond to geopolitical factors. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex

Today, the ruble has eased against the US dollar as market participants are awaiting the currency intervention by the Bank of Russia. Following the directive from the finance ministry, the central bank is ready to intervene in the forex market with the aim of taming the ruble rally. Recently, the Russian currency is showing strong resilience to the US dollar. Aleksandr Davydov comments: Following the euro, the ruble is also rising in value. The US dollar is losing ground ahead of the release of preliminary US GDP data for the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, investors are unwilling to make risky bets and want to see if the data is worse than expected. However, in case the GDP forecast comes true, the US dollar will strengthen to 60.75 against the ruble. End of comments Experts note Russia’s finance ministry is poised to buy dollars. The intervention will go on as long as the price of the Russian URALS crude blend trades above 40 US dollars a barrel. As for the Brent benchmark grade, it is trading today next to three-week highs. Brent crude for March delivery is now trading at 55 US dollars 71 cents a barrel, up from an intraday low of 55 dollars 60 cents earlier today. West Texas Intermediate is trading at 53 dollars 32 cents a barrel. Traders are awaiting a weekly oil rig count from Baker Hughes that is putting extra pressure on oil prices. Besides, investors are alert to the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. The leaders are expected to speak on Saturday. Many investors believe that Mr. Trump is likely to review the sanctions on Russia. The US President will also have a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This call will focus on relations between Russia and the West. https://www.instaforex.com

Today, the US dollar is putting pressure on most global currencies as investors are anticipating the speech of US Fed Chair Janet Yellen. Her comments are likely to shed light on timing of the nearest rates hike. Commodity currencies are also under pressure from the strong US dollar. Aleksandr Davydov comments: The Russian ruble is still being trapped in a narrow corridor. As long as the economic calendar lacks game-changing macroeconomic data and oil prices remain steady, the US dollar is unlikely to break through the range from 65 to 66 rubles. So, the US dollar is set to hover around the level of 65.50 rubles. Graphics end There are two more reasons why the Russian currency is unable to keep momentum. At the G7 summit, the leaders of both the EU and US reached an accord to extend sanctions against Russia that could undermine the Russian economy in the future. Besides, the ruble is losing in value amid correction of oil prices. Today, crude is trading below 50 US dollar a barrel due to higher speculations that US rates could be increased in June or July. Today, North Sea Brent crude is trading at the level of 48 US dollars 87 cents a barrel. It has nearly reached parity with the West Texas Intermediate. The US benchmark grade is trading next to 48 US dollars 86 cents. Commodity experts foresee a further oil rally as supply disruptions indicate that the global oil glut is easing. Currency strategists assume that the dollar/ruble pair will be holding at the level of 66.00 in case crude grows to 49 US dollars a barrel. https://www.instaforex.com/

The US dollar received a boost as the US Fed sent the message to financial markets that interest rates could be raised before the end of the year. So the greenback is advancing against its main rivals. Today, the ruble has come under pressure from the US dollar, though the Russian currency is trying to pare losses amid growing oil prices. November Brent futures are trading today at 49 US dollars 44 cents a barrel, up 0.42% from the previous close. New York-traded WTI futures for October delivery were up 28 cents at 47 dollars 26 cents a barrel. Crude prices retreated last week amid the stronger US dollar and waning hopes for a production freeze deal. Meanwhile, the Russian ruble slipped into a decline as the tax filing period in Russia is over. However, uncertainty is caused by expectations for Russia’s parliamentary elections, which are due in mid-September. Aleksander Davydov comments: The ruble still remains under pressure despite the rebound in oil prices. The Russian currency is widely expected to weaken amid growing fears ahead of the elections. However, the ruble is to keep steady in the short term on the back of big demand for government bonds thanks to their high yields. To sum up, the dollar/ruble pair is to hover at about 65. End of comments Some analysts assume the dollar/ruble pair to grow to 70 in the medium term. The week’s main event will follow on Friday when the US Labor Department will present the August nonfarm payrolls. The NPF report has a massive potential to affect the move for the US dollar in any direction and make an impact on major currencies. https://www.instaforex.com

The Russian ruble continued to plunge against the US dollar for a second day, Thursday. Muscovites talked about their concerns as the currency continues to reach new record lows, falling to 82 against the dollar and 91 against the euro. SOT, Ekaterina, Moscow citizen (Russian): "I have no savings so this does not affect me, it's sad because traveling [abroad] is more complicated now. Surely, it does not make me happier." SOT, Sergey Lucashevich, Moscow citizen (Russian): "For sure, it is influential. I planned my holidays, I cannot say that I am used to go to Europe, but I like to go there and I go there to relax and first of all for medical treatment to Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, but since last year [when rouble fell rapidly] I had to cancel this idea and this opportunity." T/I: 10:44:02 The value of the Russian ruble dropped sharply on Moscow's Inter-Currency Exchange on Tuesday morning (18/8), reacting badly to Monday's central bank and government decision to end its defence of the ruble and let it drift against the dollar. On Tuesday morning it stood at 6.8850 rubles to one US dollar against Monday's closing 6.4300. Ruble developments dominated the headlines in Russia's morning newspapers. What are the top 8 cryptocurrency exchanges for buying and selling fiat currencies like USD, EUR, CAD, GBP, KRW, JPY, RUB, and CNH into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and hundreds more altcoins with Bittrex and Poloniex? Will you watch this video or read this description to find out? My favorite exchange is Coinbase which I have used to buy and sell hundreds of thousands of US Dollars in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. If you would like to sign up for Coinbase, would you use my link at https://www.coinbase.com/join/53f220834b1a7fd652000013 because Coinbase will give you and me $10 each in Bitcoin for the referral? Bitstamp at https://www.bitstamp.net might be the best global option if you can make a deposit with SEPA in the EU or a wire transfer in nearly any other country because Bitstamp's help at https://www.bitstamp.net/account/deposit/ states "REST OF THE WORLD. International bank transfer deposits carry 0.05% deposit fee on our side (minimum fee = 7.50 USD/EUR) and take 2 - 5 business days to credit. USD deposits credited to your USD balance won't be converted. All other currencies will be converted to the selected balance currency, free of charge." Ripple as XRP and Bitcoin as BTC are both available to trade with fiat currencies on Bitstamp. Credit cards can also be used to make purchases on Bitstamp with fees ranging from 5% to 8% as listed at https://www.bitstamp.net/fee_schedule/. Kraken at https://www.kraken.com has the greatest current selection I have found for an exchange which accepts incoming fiat deposits while trading with the most altcoins. Kraken accepts EUR SEPA deposits, USD, GBP, EUR, and JPY wire deposits as well as witdrawals. For Canadian dollars, wire deposits are free and EFT withdrawals are $10 with a $25,000 daily max. In addition to Bitcoin, Kraken allows USD with EUR and a few CAD or JPY directly to Ethereum, Ripple, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, Dash, Monero, Zcash, USDT, Gnosis, and Stellar Lumens with Iconomi available from ETH and XBT which is Bitcoin. GDAX operates in the US, Europe, UK, Canada, Australia, and Singapore at https://www.gdax.com/ trading in BTC/USD, ETH/USD, ETH/BTC, LTC/USD, LTC/BTC, BTC/EUR, and BTC/GBP. Gemini at https://gemini.com is available in Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom, and the United States of America in 44 states with BTC/USD, ETH/BTC, and ETH/USD available for all via US Dollar wire transfers. xBTCe at https://www.xbtce.com accepts wire transfers from many countries including the USA, China, and Russia with native language support in English, Russian, and Chinese. Wall of Coins at https://wallofcoins.com/en/ is available in the USA, Canada, and more countries soon for direct cash deposits via local bank accounts in Bitcoin and Dash. Local Bitcoins at https://localbitcoins.com/ allows buyers and sellers in 248 countries to make cash and online transactions directly for Bitcoin with generally 10% or higher above marketplace costs. In summary, I think Coinbase, Bitstamp, and Kraken are three of the best places online to use USD, EUR, CAD, and GBP to buy directly into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Dash, and more altcoins. GDAX, Gemini, and xBTCe are great alternatives especially for KRW, JPY, RUB, and CNH. Wall of Coins and Local Bitcoins are effective for changing cash to Bitcoin to then use on an exchange like Bittrex or Poloniex. Today oil prices inched up after a 2% slump in the previous trading day. Concerns over global growth spooked investors as China reported dismal GDP data for last year. China’s economy expanded last year at the slowest pace in nearly three decades in line with expectations. This confirmed fears for a slowdown in the global economic growth, thus denting demand for commodities. China’s authorities pledged to use fiscal spending to stem an economic slowdown. Commodity assets responded with a bounce. Brent crude rebounded from the level of 61 dollars a barrel, gained 1%, and settled down at near 61 dollars 50 cents after a downward correction. WTI also has been able to win back some of its losses to trade at the level slightly below 53 US dollars a barrel. Tomorrow the American Petroleum Institute is due to release its weekly update on US crude inventories. The data will either encourage a further rally of oil futures or, on the contrary, derail investor confidence. Meanwhile, the commodity currencies are displaying interesting moves. Crude oil is trying to escape from the bearish pressure, while the ruble is gaining ground versus the US dollar. The dollar/ruble pair is trading lower towards the level of 66.20. The reason behind growth of the Russian currency is a tax filing period in the country with the peak to fall on Friday. Today oil prices are unlikely to sink to recent lows. Experts say oil buyers gain confidence from the fact that OPEC and its allies comply with the pact on oil production cuts. As for the Russian ruble, it is expected to continue growth until the end of the trading week. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex #commodity_market #oil #instaforex_tv

Last Friday brought an enormous change to the global market. Out of all financial exchange floors, the currency market in particular was affected the most by the outcome of the UK’s referendum. Since the past week, the Russian ruble has been trading on a stronger footing against its key counterpart, the US dollar. Apart from investors’ shock as a result of the Leave vote, the Russian currency is also supported by other crucial factors. A. Davydov comments, The end-of-month tax payments and Turkey’s official apologies, delivered yesterday, for downing of a Russian air force jet last year, along with a renewed rise in crude oil prices are supporting the ruble. However, the potential for the ruble’s growth is limited as the tax factor is running out of steam, whereas the normalization of Russia-Turkey relations is still in question. Therefore, the dollar-ruble pair is expected to stabilize around 64.50 rubles per dollar. End of comments Crude oil prices, the main driver of the Russian ruble, are climbing as market participants are keeping an eye on the results of the European Parliament’s emergency post-Brexit meeting. Moreover, oil is on the rise amid the looming threat of union strikes by Norwegian petroleum workers, which may potentially limit the output of Europe’s major producer. Workers on seven oil and gas fields could call a strike demanding a new wage deal. The North Sea crude oil benchmark is trading around 48.20 dollars a barrel on Tuesday. WTI also edged higher, reaching 47.43 dollars a barrel. Traders are now looking ahead to fresh crude stockpiles data from the American Petroleum Institute slated for release later in the day. The market is currently seeing a recovery in commodities-linked and emerging-market currencies. High-yield currencies are likely to get a boost from central banks’ soft monetary policy stance and the Fed’s plans to delay an interest rate hike in the near term. The Bank of Russia does not foresee any negative consequences of Brexit for Russia. However, the bank’s governor Elvira Nabiullina said that everything would depend on the precise terms of the UK’s departure from the European Union. https://www.instaforex.com

Russian/Eng/Nat The Russian rouble continues to drop against the U-S dollar, falling 0.105 in trading on the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (M-I-C-E-X) today to close at 6.99 roubles to the dollar. Brokers say the situation remains difficult even though the financial markets seem to have stabilised following Monday's de facto devaluation of the rouble. Meanwhile Russia's Central Bank has introduced limits on currency exchanges in a bid to stop speculators. Moscow's Interbank Currency Exchange or M-I-C-E-X has become the focus of furious rouble trading. This is not merely due to the Russian Central Bank's Monday decision to let the rouble float because it no longer had reserves to hold the currency steady. But the M-I-C-E-X has become the focus also because a simultaneous crisis in the banking sector trading on the major interbank market was suspended last week. The M-I-C-E-X opened for trading for just 35 minutes with the rouble falling to 6.99 to the U-S dollar. Dealers say the situation is uncertain. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "The situation remains difficult. It's a crisis but the situation is not getting worse. If the situation on the financial market does get worse then there will be grave social unrest and both the government and the financial institutions are concerned about this." SUPER CAPTION: Andrei Sorokin, Broker Some money exchanges on the streets have been taking advantage of the situation by charging higher rates of up to 10 roubles to the U-S dollar, taking advantage of the desperate demand for U-S dollars and the ignorance of the population. To mitigate the confusion Russia's Central Bank announced rules setting a 15 percent limit on the spreads between buy and sell rates at exchanges. But people still feel aggrieved. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "The rate has gone up and the price to buy roubles is also going up. But people's wages are staying at the same level as before. In all aspects it's very unpleasant. First of all the pensioners are suffering and those who earn very little money anyway." SUPER CAPTION: Mikhail Kupnetsov, Vox pop Previously the rouble's stabilisation had been a source of pride for the Russian leadership . Political analysts say this economic disarray is just a sign of how little President Yeltsin and the government are managing to cope. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The problem is that the government isn't in control of the situation. President Yeltsin doesn't control the situation. The situation is simply not controlled in Russia. So all that the government has done, it has unleashed a series of events. I don't think that the government and the people who were working out this decision they have correctly forecasted all the consequences." SUPER CAPTION: Viktor Kremenyuk, Political Analyst One consequence many expect is a rise in food prices. This will only happen gradually as new stocks of imported goods come onto the market. Many people shop at the markets where prices for fresh produce tend to be cheaper. But in recent years Russians have got so used to living through financial hardship, many of them seem unconcerned about the latest crisis. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "Nothing has really changed in people's life. They are calm and are not too worried. There is some uncertainty right now but I think it should be sorted out soon and there's no reason for great concern." SUPER CAPTION: Larisa Vorobyeva, market stall holder However if food prices rise dramatically President Yeltsin will not only have a financial crisis on his hands, but a social one as well. In 2014, the Russian government stopped supporting the exchange rate of ruble against other currencies. As a result, ruble plummeted against both USD and Euro by more than 100%. However, wages and prices for many services in Russia have remained the same. Therefore, in many cases, your money can buy twice as much as it could back in 2014. This is good news not only for those traveling to Russia for leisure. It also makes creating businesses that export products or services from Russia very lucrative. The main idea is benefiting from low labor costs. Producing almost anything in Russia at these affordable rates and exporting it to Europe or the United States can help you cut costs by as much as 50%. Tap opportunities for a higher margin today!

Today the ruble continues to trend upwards against the greenback. The Russian currency took the leading position among currencies of other developing nations. A. Davydov comments: For the last year the ruble posted great result, having gained a status of nearly the best currency, as it appreciated by almost 20 percent. A high yield of public debt securities, gradual improvement of economic conditions in Russia, and recovery in the commodity market contributed to a rise of the ruble exchange rate. Next year, bullish trend is likely to continue. However, the pace of growth will probably slow down as the Federal Reserve plans to increase its key rate significantly, whereas the Bank of Russia is going to lower its interest rate. End of comments Oil market participants remain optimistic: they are looking forward to when the 1st of January comes not just to celebrate New Year, but to see the long-awaited output cut by the OPEC countries. However, the commodity corrected ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, but still it holds the recent gains. Thus, the Brent crude oil is trading at the level of 55.13 dollars per barrel, while WTI costs 53.16 dollars per barrel.
