Possessive Adjectives in English - Grammar Lesson

07:27
A simple ESL Grammar lesson about Possessive Adjectives: My, Your, His, Her, Its, Our, Your, Their First, we use example sentences to compare Subject Pronouns with their corresponding Possessive Adjectives. We then explain how there is only one form of a possessive adjective (no plural change with plural nouns as happens in some languages) We quickly look at the difference between IT'S and ITS. We also look at the difference between YOU'RE and YOUR. See our separate videos about these comparisons: IT'S vs. ITS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvZhq8_inCc YOU'RE vs. YOUR - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyDcVm4ac5c Finally there is a simple exercise where you need to complete 8 sentences with the correct possessive adjective. Basic English Grammar: Pronouns - SHE, HER, HE, HIS

03:49
http://www.engvid.com/ It is wrong to say "Her is cute". You must say "SHE is cute". Her, she, he and him are confusing in English. Ronnie's going to help you understand. Watch HER video and learn the differences. Never make mistakes with these pronouns again after you watch his grammar lesson! Take the quiz here: http://www.engvid.com/personal-pronouns/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. How are you? I'm very, very well. Thank you. My name is Ronnie. I'm going to teach you something very easy but a little bit confusing and difficult even if you have studied English or grammar for a while. I hear people make this mistake every day. Again, so this is what we're doing: when you should use "she" or "he" or "his" -- sorry -- "her" or "his". These are two words that a lot of people get confused. First of all, the thing -- or a mistake that a lot of people make is "she" and "he" -- which one's the girl? Which one's the boy? Most of you know that "she" is the girl, but when you speak, you mix it up, and you say, "My mom went to the store. He bought -- " what? He what? Your mom is a "he" now? What happened on the way to the store? Did something happen to your mom that changed it into a "he"? So be careful. "She" is a girl; "he" is a boy. Now, this is the trick. You will remember this forever if you get this. "She" or "he" going to be followed by a verb, okay? So subject + verb. "She" or "he". So "she likes", "he hates", and then, if you want to, you're going to write a noun, or you're going to say a noun. For example, "She likes chickens." "He hates apricots. He doesn't like them at all." So when you use "she" or "he", it's always going to be followed by a verb. When we use "her" or "his", it's going to be followed by a noun because it is a possessive pronoun. So I can say, "her dog" because "dog" is a noun. Or I can say "his chicken". Then, usually, I would use a verb. For example, "Her dog is cute", or "his chicken -- let's say we put an S -- his chickens are -- these are your verbs. Uh-oh -- sexy!" Sexy chicken time! So if you need to remember, "Oh, my God. Do I say -- do I say 'her' or 'his' or 'she' or 'he'?" Just remember: "she" or "he" plus the verb -- any verb you want, and "her" or "his" plus a noun. If you can remember these two very simple things for English grammar, you're going to be, "Hallelujah, Ronnie. You saved my life." You're welcome. Stay tuned. Go to www.engvid.com for a quiz on "she", "he", "his", and "hers". 'Til then.

Apostrophe S - Possessive Nouns in English

23:56
How to use the apostrophe S in English. Where do I put the apostrophe? When do I put apostrophe S and when just an apostrophe? In this English grammar lesson we look at when to use the apostrophe S and when to only use and apostrophe. We start by looking at the three meanings of Apostrophe S at the end of a word. Then we start focusing on Possessive Nouns which is a word ending in apostrophe S which is then followed by a noun. We look at the following rules: - Singular nouns NOT ending in S - Plural nouns ending in S - Plural nouns that do not in S - Singular nouns ending in S - Names of people that end in S - Apostrophes with two or more people - No noun after apostrophe S - Apostrophe S with periods of time - Decades / Years - No apostrophe - Plural forms of Acronyms Apostrophe S is also know as the Genitive Case or Possessive Case. It is important to learn these written English grammar rules if you are taking an International English exam such as IELTS or TOEFL. This, that, these, those - Demonstratives | English grammar

17:06
Learn how to use the words this, that, these and those with this English grammar lesson. These words are used as demonstrative adjectives and sometimes simply as demonstrative pronouns. We use "this" to refer to nouns (objects or people) in the singular which are close to the speaker and "these" for the plural. For nouns far from the speaker, "that" is used for the singular and those in the plural. For actions in the present or the near future, we use "this", for example, "This meal is nice" (during the meal). But for actions which have finished and in the past, we use "that". Example talking about a football match: "That match was great yesterday." We always use "this is" when introducing ourselves and other people. At the end of the English grammar lesson about the demonstratives, I give you an exercise to test your understanding. Please answer the questions in the comments section and I will tell you if your answers are right or wrong :) Private English lessons & speaking practice: http://goo.gl/e7xuDt More grammar lessons: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6BDo90oiwpS4_AM1c0s0ozpROeE2A9ff Listening exercises: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6BDo90oiwpRdmnAzmYwdc0Az0ZOG2XNA Vocabulary videos: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6BDo90oiwpTlYAYSitjwWn29BEdCBi9j Andrew, Crown Academy of English http://www.crownacademyenglish.com http://www.youtube.com/user/CrownAcademyEnglish https://twitter.com/Crown_English Photo credits: "Man Having Severe Headache" Image courtesy of stockimages | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Young student showing pointing down" Image courtesy of imagerymajestic | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "The Brand New Laptop Is Out For Sale" Image courtesy of stockimages | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Happy Family" Image courtesy of stockimages | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Groom In Tuxedo Posing With A Bouquet" Image courtesy of stockimages | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Businesswoman Holding Shoes" Image courtesy of stockimages | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Young Businessman Who Sits On A Chair At The Top Of The Mountain" Image courtesy of pat138241 | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Handsome Guy Looking Far Away" Image courtesy of stockimages | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Cheerful Businessman Pointing Away" Image courtesy of stockimages| FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Lady Looking Through Binocular" Image courtesy of imagerymajestic | FreeDigitalPhotos.net "Multi Ethnic Team During Meeting" Image courtesy of Ambro | FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Apostrophe S in English - Practice Exercises

09:17
Exercises to practice the Apostrophe S in English (Possessive Nouns) There are three types of activities. ** Activity 1: Make a sentence ** You are given two short sentences. e.g. This is Jack. This is his horse. You need to create a simple sentence that contains a possessive noun using this information. Sometimes an apostrophe S is needed, sometimes just an apostrophe, and sometimes nothing. There are cartoons that show examples of the sentences to help with understanding. ** Activity 2: Multiple choice ** Three sentences appear on the screen but only one of them is grammatically correct according to the cartoon that appears beside them. The difference between each of these three sentences is the position of the apostrophe (or no apostrophe). Use the cartoon accompanying the sentences to help you. ** Activity 3: Family Members ** A family tree appears on the screen. Below it is the beginning of a sentence that includes the names of people in that family tree. e.g. Steve is Stacy’s … You need to complete the sentence according to the tree. If you need help with name of members of the family, then see our video about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqNzV213Wc8 These three exercises are best to complete after watching our English language lesson about Apostrophe S - Possessive Nouns here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LmIxiETWgM ++++++++++ Do you love WOODWARD ENGLISH and want to learn more English? This is a grammar lesson about English possessive adjectives. There are 8 possessive adjectives in English - my, your (singular), his, her, its, our, your (plural) and their and you will learn how to use each of them with examples. I also explain that in English, possessive adjectives agree with the person who owns the object and not with the noun itself. You will also learn the difference between there and their, the difference between your and you're and the difference between its and it's. At the end of the class, there is an exercise to check that you have understood. The accent in the video is a British English accent. Make sure you are clear on the basic information given in this video, as mostof it will be crucial to properly follow the next 8 episodes :) What you need to do to be my intro: Record yourself saying the following things: "Hallo Leute! Ich bin ___ (You can say whatever you want here - name, (youtube) nickname, where you live, where you're from, why you're learning German, or anything else you'd like, one or more things. It's best if you do this part in German, too, but if you're too shy, English is fine as well - just try to keep the video to roughly 10 seconds or shorter) und ihr seht Deutsch Für Euch!" Please don't edit your videos; if you'd like something changed (e.g. color correction), let me know in your email. I'll make sure to make you look as good as possible anyway, though ;) I can use a lot of video formats, but your safest bets are the usual candidates: .avi, .mov, .mp4 - DON'T use .dv, please. Once you're happy with your video, send it to me via ONE of these channels: - attach the video to an email to [email protected] - send me a DropBox link/invite me to a folder (also [email protected]) - send me a link to a the video on YouTube, also via mail - please title your message "DFE Intro" There's NO time limit for this, this will be an on-going thing as long as you send me videos. I'm looking forward to your submissions - feel free to get creative with it! :)
