In this video, I am going to share with you my five top tips on how you can score a guest post on someone else’s blog. If you do not know what a guest post is, it is basically where you post on someone else’s blog. This is amazingly helpful because the person who owns that blog has already built an audience. They probably already have thousands of people who follow them. So, not only are you reaching those people but you are also getting a back link to your website which in itself is very powerful. So, what are the five tips? Well, the first one is do research. The second one is to engage them in social and comments. Number three, email them. Number four, create a connection. And number five – at the very end I have all of my very top, top tips because if I had made a really long list - it would just have been a hundred tips. What we are going to do in this video is that we are going to dive into each of these really quickly and give you the tips and tricks you need to know so that you can score a guest post.
1. Do Research
Let’s start with Number 1, Do Research. So, research is a very important thing to do if you are going to trying to write as a guest host. One of the first things to research is to try to find out what kind of niche blogs are out there, what kind of niche blogs overlap with your niche. Now it does not need to directly overlap with your niche. For instance, I sell dancewear on my main ecommerce website. I do not need to only reach out to blogs that talk about dance clothing. I can talk about blogs that talk about dance. That is pretty obvious. But I can also reach out to other blogs such as mom blogs, things like that. There are a lot of different options. Use your imagination. Try to figure out where people who would potentially be your customers are looking, where they are going.
You could also use the blogs from competitor research. The last ¬¬¬¬_____ we talked about, competitor research and how you can research where your competitors are getting their links from. And if you want to ____ down below where show nuts and how to figure out where your competitors are getting their links. On top of that, another tip for you, you can Google it. You could always just Google things like “Dance Blogs.” So, obviously in my niche, “Dance World,” I search something like “Dance Blogs.” If you are selling bikes, for instance, in the world of bicycles, you might type in “Biking Blogs” or “Bicycle Blogs.” You get the idea. You can come up with your own ideas. But, basically type in things you find in Google. You might even find out there are directories. A lot of the time there are directories in certain blog topics. For instance, I found a dance blog directory and I was able to look through that directory and found 100 different blogs in this directory. I went through them one by one to find which ones I could potentially do a guest post on.
2. Engage Them in Social and Comments
Tip Number 2 for you, Engage Them in Social and Comments. What do I mean by this? Well, start a conversation. You can always send them an email or send them a “Tweet” via Twitter. Additionally, you can post on their Facebook. Also, when they post a new blog post, you can just leave a comment. Say something like, “Really good job!” But, the key with this is to start the conversation and get engaged with them. Something else to remember is that authors love to hear from readers. So, imagine yourself if you had a blog and you are working really hard on this article. It is great to hear from people reading it saying how good it is to hear from readers about what a good job you are doing, all that kind of fun stuff. So, do that yourself. Start that connection and engage with them in social and in comments. Lastly, develop a relationship. It is going to take time to develop a relationship like with a blogger or an author of a blog. So, you need to start now. You need to start doing it slowly but it is a good idea to start now as opposed to waiting until later.
