Blockchain: Real World Use Cases

43:48
At Global Architecture Week 2015, we covered ‘Digital Currencies and Cash’ and their relevance to Tax and Welfare Authorities, concluding with the message: “It’s not about Bitcoin, it’s about the Blockchain”. Blockchain technology has the potential to enable a new mutually trusted, transparent way of sharing and transacting. In the UK Public Sector, Sir Mark Walport’s report Distributed Ledger Technology: Beyond Blockchain encouraged Government to assess its early use and potential. Meanwhile in the private sector, Blockchain FinTech excitement among start-ups and venture capitalists remained strong for a technology promised to be “like a whole new internet for value exchange”. But where are the real world use cases today? What is it that makes a use case more likely to succeed? In this talk, Nick Meyne, Enterprise Architect, Capgemini shares and discusses a number of Capgemini examples. Filmed at Capgemini Week of Innovation Networks 2016 in Telford, UK.

Smart Cycling - Blockchain in the Public Sector

12:11
Thomas Bohner, IntellectEU & Ruben Gevaert, Belfius IntellectEU, Belfius, and the city of Bonheiden have joined forces to create a SmartCycling Application. The goal was to motivate pupils to go to school on foot or by bicycle. Via an Internet-of-Things chip the municipality collects data on the number of bike rides, the kilometers traveled, fuel savings, avoided CO2 emissions, calories burned, and so on. The children receive digital tokens they can use to pay at the village fair or at the local merchant. The more kilometers they cover, the more "ducaten" (tokens) they receive. These tokens are tracked on a distributed ledger network: Hyperledger Fabric. Ruben and Thomas will explain the complexity and challenges to create a local currency, define the business and legal challenges and demonstrate the live application. SmartCycling is in production since September 2018 and will be rolled out in more Belgian cities. https://hgf18.sched.com/event/G8rP/smart-cycling-blockchain-in-the-public-sector-thomas-bohner-intellecteu-ruben-gevaert-belfius

Blockchain tutorial 15: Convert public, private key pairs to addresses

01:42
This is part 15 of the Blockchain tutorial explaining why some Blockchain implementations convert public, private key pairs to addresses. In this video series different topics will be explained which will help you to understand blockchain. Bitcoin released as open source software in 2009 is a cryptocurrency invented by Satoshi Nakamoto (unidentified person or group of persons). After the introduction of Bitcoin many Bitcoin alternatives were created. These alternate cryptocurrencies are called Altcoins (Litecoin, Dodgecoin etc). Bitcoin's underlying technology is called Blockchain. The Blockchain is a distributed decentralized incorruptible database (ledger) that records blocks of digital information. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to a previous block. Soon people realises that there many other use cases where the Blockchain technology can be applied and not just as a cryptocurrency application. New Blockchain platforms were created based on the Blockchain technology, one of which is called Ethereum. Ethereum focuses on running programming code, called smart contracts, on any decentralized application. Using the new Blockchain platforms, Blockchain technology can be used in supply chain management, healthcare, real estate, identity management, voting, internet of things, etcetera, just to name a few. Today there is a growing interest in Blockchain not only in the financial sector but also in other sectors. Explaining how Blockchain works is not easy and for many the Blockchain technology remains an elusive concept. This video series tries to explain Blockchain to a large audience but from the bottom up. Keywords often used in Blockchain conversation will be explained. Each Blockchain video is short and to the point. It is recommended to watch each video sequentially as I may refer to certain Blockchain topics explained earlier. Panel Applications of Blockchain in Private and Public Sectors - Digital Summit 2018

35:02
Blockchain technology applications go beyond the cryptocurrency and payment transactions which have been the center of media attention. Specifically, blockchain is currently being used to unify biometric data for identity verification, speed up lengthy bureaucratic processes and registries through blockchain verification, and create smart contracts. Governments that have embraced blockchain across the world include Dubai, Estonia, and Georgia; even the UN is now using blockchain-based biometric data to manage large scale refugee relief programs in Jordan. The Dubai government estimates that blockchain technology adoption can save over 25M productive hours if implemented by 2020. This panel highlights the practical application of blockchain technology for public and private companies, the challenges that need to be tackled for optimal implementation and to capture long-term benefits. What is Blockchain Technology? Easy To Understand Video

02:29
What is Blockchain Technology? https://www.blockgeeks.com Join us for an easy to understand and simple breakdown of blockchain technology. We'll introduce you to all the basic concepts so you can begin your journey into the world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Stay tuned for our simple blockchain guides being released every Monday! For more guides, content, and videos, check us out over at blockgeeks.com! If you're already a blockchain developer and need a smart contract audited, visit our sister site https://www.bountyone.io How Does Blockchain Work? Picture a spreadsheet that is duplicated thousands of times across a network of computers. Then imagine that this network is designed to regularly update this spreadsheet and you have a basic understanding of the blockchain. Information held on a blockchain exists as a shared — and continually reconciled — database. This is a way of using the network that has obvious benefits. The blockchain database isn’t stored in any single location, meaning the records it keeps are truly public and easily verifiable. No centralized version of this information exists for a hacker to corrupt. Hosted by millions of computers simultaneously, its data is accessible to anyone on the internet. To go in deeper with the Google spreadsheet analogy, I would like you to read this piece from a blockchain specialist. Blockchain Technology Adoption in Indian Telecommunication Industry

29:51
Blockchain is often seen as a technology for financial sector, but India is leading the Blockchain revolution in Telecommunication Sector. Pesky commercial calls and SMSs are a big problem for Indian Telecom subscribers. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has notified new regulations on Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) to Curb Pesky Calls, There is also a draft regulation issued on running Mobile Number Portability process on Blockchain. This is first of a kind step in India where a regulator is embracing a technology like blockchain, for regulatory compliance purposes. Blockchain is known as technology for building trust through systems and hence eliminating intermediary, in the proposed session we will explore the blockchain features that promote trust and privacy in the context of Telecommunication Industry. The other notion about Blockchain technology is it do not scale well, but in Indian Telecom context scale is a fundamental requirement, we will also explore scalability aspects of a enterprise blockchian implementation in the proposed session. The Enterprise Blockchain Revolution - Public vs. Private Blockchains

06:41
Blockchains were created to coordinate data between parties that don’t necessarily trust each other. This is really handy when you’re in a situation where you want to exchange data or agree on the validity of data with untrusted parties. Blockchains are great for agreeing on public data; this is what they were created for! But to pull this off you have to have a public system that is decentralized, censorship-resistant, borderless, and transparent. And all of that takes a lot of effort, equipment, and electricity. More and more businesses are turning to private blockchains to protect data that these companies don't want public. Check out how these businesses are shaping private blockchains.
