Teaching Strategies - Gaining Children's Attention
Preschool teacher Nereida Diaz describes a strategy she uses in her classroom to focus children's attention, particularly after a period of active play. She puts her hands to her eyes to resemble a pair of glasses and says the phrase, "Hocus Pocus; everybody focus." The children respond with the same gesture and repeat the word, "focus." This is Luis Angel, your memory coach with AE Mind! As I was going through my journey of discovering how to fix my memory problems, I discovered that I needed to first cure my inability to focus on the tasks at hand. My mind would always wander off and this led me to being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder ( ADD/ADHD ). The doctors and psychologist gave me amphetamine based drugs such as Adderall and also methylphenidate based drugs such as Ritalin. These have a similar chemical composition as methamphetamine which is speed. I didn't like taking that, so I sought out a natural fix for my focus, attention, and concentration problems. Here are the three things that I started to Focus on: 1. Diet - Health. I started to put more water based and natural foods into my body. Fruits and Vegetables became a staple to my wellbeing. I started to eat more berries which are rich in antioxidants, flax seed oil which has omega 3 fatty acids and support optimal brain function, and bananas which have potassium and supports better neuron brain cell communication. 2. Meditation. I started to practice clear mind and present mind meditation. This helped me to stay focused for longer periods of time outside of my meditation sessions. 3. Memory training. Incorporating a regular routine to practice memory boosting and brain enhancing activities such as memorizing cards and long numbers helped me to improve my ability to focus and concentrate. Daniel Goleman on Focus: The Secret to High Performance and Fulfilment

Check out the Intelligence Squared website to hear about future live events and podcasts: http://www.intelligencesquared.com __________________________ http://www.intelligencesquared.com/events/daniel-goleman-on-focus-high-performance-fulfilment/ Filmed at the Royal College of Music on 25th October 2013. Psychologist Daniel Goleman shot to fame with his groundbreaking bestseller Emotional Intelligence. The premise of the book, now widely accepted, is that raw intelligence alone is not a sure predictor of success in life. A greater role is played by 'softer' skills such as self-control, self-motivation, empathy and good interpersonal relationships. Now Goleman comes to Intelligence Squared for an exclusive talk on the themes of his latest book, Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence. Attention, he will argue, is an underrated asset for high achievers in any field. Incorporating findings from neuroscience, Goleman will show why we need three kinds of focus: inner, for self-awareness; other, for the empathy that builds effective relationships; and outer, for understanding the larger systems in which organisations operate. Those who excel rely on Smart Practices such as mindfulness meditation, focused preparation and positive emotions that help improve habits, add new skills, and sustain excellence.

How to Focus - Learn How You Can Focus Without Getting Distracted
http://blackbeltmemory.com/?WickedSource=Youtube&WickedID=How-To-Focus Get memory training tips at link above now Being focused is a skill. In this day and age, we have all kinds of distraction, from cell phones to video games and easy access to anything and everything, as well as a million and one options, it's easy to lose focus when we are distracted by so many options. Here, 2-time USA Memory Champ, Ron White offers some tips on how to focus better. Get more training over at: http://blackbeltmemory.com/?WickedSource=Youtube&WickedID=How-To-Focus Did you remember what you just read? Hey, look over there....a squirrel!! How to focus! What is it so hard to focus? Why is it so hard to learn how to focus. Well it is hard to focus because we have so many different things coming at us every day. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram...blah...blah...blah. Then you get to reading online and an ad pops up and the next thing you know you are buying shoes! Learning how to focus is really hard but focusing is even harder. You can get better at focusing and not getting distracted by starting to say 'NO' to people. 'Hey, Ron. Let's start a Periscope for the business!' 'NO.' 'Hey Ron, let's meet for dinner.' 'NO.' Also, if you are wanting to get better at focusing and not getting distracted so often it might help to set a goal for what you are doing online or reading. - I want to learn about Abraham Lincoln today. So when you are online if something pops up that is not about Abraham Lincoln then you don't click it! These are some of the strategies for learning how to focus that I cover in this video. I know it isn't easy. Right now as I type this I am seeing my Facebook notifications! It is driving me insane not to go check them! But my goal right now is to write this description on how to focus without distractions. So I am staying focused and on target. I won't go check the notifications until I finish this.. Focus. I hope this helps you just a little bit on how to focus. Wouldn't the irony be if you are on Youtube to watch another video and ended up watching this one because you got distracted and now you are watching a video on how to focus without getting distracted. If so, I am glad you are here! Now go focus!! And I'm going to check Facebook as my reward for staying focused!!!
Train Your Brain: Mindfulness Meditation for Anxiety, Depression, ADD and PTSD | Daniel Goleman
By now, everyone knows that mindfulness meditation is good for you—but what's still surprising scientists is just how quickly it works. Ten minutes of meditation won't make you a better mutlitasker—there's no such thing, as psychologist and science journalist Daniel Goleman explains—but it will make you more adept at switching tasks and returning to a deep level of concentration more quickly after a distraction. Every time you practice meditation, you’re strengthening the neural circuitry for focus and training your brain away from mind-wandering. Beyond the need to concentrate for work, pleasure, or to overcome negative emotion, mindfulness meditation can also help to manage disorders like PTSD, anxiety, and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). This last one particularly has shown incredible results, and Goleman cites one exercise a teacher in a rough neighborhood of New York City practices routinely with their class of seven-year-old kids, over half of which have special needs like ADD and autism. That daily ritual keeps the class environment calm and constructive, and is empowering the children with self-control strategies early on. The scientific research evidence on the benefits of meditation is already compelling, and there are major studies underway, which Goleman expects will reveal many more insights that can be used to instruct creative, educational, and mental health practices. Daniel Goleman and Richard J. Davidson are the authors of Altered Traits: Science Reveals How Meditation Changes Your Mind, Brain, and Body. Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/daniel-goleman-how-10-minutes-of-meditation-can-reshape-your-mind Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: What’s surprising, at least to scientists, is that the benefits from meditation show up right from the beginning. You can do, for example, mindfulness—that’s a very popular meditation—if you do mindfulness practice ten minutes a day or ten minutes three times over the course of a day something remarkable happens to your attention, and it has to do with the fact that we’re all multitasking these days. People on average look at their email about 50 times a day, they look at their Facebook 20-something times a day and that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's Instagram, there's your phone calls, there’s whatever it is you have to do. And what this means for attention is that we’re challenged. Focused attention is an endangered species, however, we need that focus to get work done well. So it’s a real problem and meditation, it turns out, even at the beginning, has some of the answers. It goes like this: when you’re really intensely focused on that one thing you have to do or you want to do—the paper you’re writing or the project you’re working on—then you think, 'Oh, I better check my email,' and then that leads to your Facebook and that leads to the phone call, it leads to—we call this multitasking. The brain actually does not do multitasking, it doesn’t do several things at once in parallel, rather it works in serial and it switches very rapidly from one thing to the next. Then when you go back to that project or whatever it was you were so focused on, your concentration had been at a very high level before you started doing the other things, now it’s much lower and it takes a while to ramp up to that same level, unless—and this is so interesting—unless you’ve done that ten minutes of mindfulness; focused on your breath, for example, just watched it in and out, noticed when your mind wandered, brought it back. That’s the basic move in meditation. And if you do that it turns out just ten minutes of practice nullifies that loss of concentration. Because meditation has been found to work so well with anxiety and depression and possibly PTSD, where that’s being looked into, one of the areas that seems promising is meditation with Attention Deficit Disorder. In a way this is a no-brainer because at base, in essence, every kind of meditation retrains attention and what Attention Deficit Disorder is is a problem with attention. So there’s now a whole host of studies underway, mainly with kids because it’s where ADD tends to show up first, where they’re helping them strengthen the muscle of attention. I was in a classroom of seven year olds in Spanish Harlem, this is a very impoverished area of New York City, and those kids live in housing projects, they have very troubled lives and some of them had ADD—in fact half the kids in that classroom had what are called special needs, ranging from ADD to autism.

2 Ways to focus with ADHD
For more info on Polly Bath, go to: http://www.cristialesher.com/polly-bath/ Getting and keeping the attention of a student with ADHD can be one of the hardest things to do! Watch this video for two easy techniques I use to help teach that child how to deal with distractions and to focus. Polly Bath: For years, we've been managing children with attention deficit disorder and other diagnoses that impact attention in the classroom. We manage a child with ADHD by taking away distractions, clearing their desk, giving them a small room to work in, or not having them sit by the window. And for years, this MANAGEMENT has not worked! Because it doesn’t CHANGE the behavior! In order to change the child’s behavior, we have to teach them some skills on how to handle their lack of focus or their inability to maintain themselves around distractions. Here are some actual techniques we can use when trying to help an ADHD student focus… We have all been in the situation where your student gets distracted with the things on his desk. I want to go into a literature lesson, but I don’t necessarily want to tell him to clear off his desk. That hasn’t worked for him in the past. Instead, I’ll take a few minutes to talk to him. It would go something like this: Polly: “Hey, buddy. I've got an idea for you today. Sometimes I know it's hard for you to deal with all the distractions and all this kind of stuff on your desk. I want you to listen to two words. Those two words are going to be ‘right now.’ That's going to be the code word. When I say ‘right now,’ it means that I'm about to give a direction that's going to ask you to focus on something. What are the two words that I just said? Do you remember?” Male Student: “Right now?” Polly: “Exactly!” Male Student: “You want me to clear this stuff off?” Polly: “No, I don't want you to clear this stuff off. That's the point. I want you to be able to say to your brain that when I hear ‘right now,’ it means no matter what's on my desk, it's time for me to focus on whatever comes after ‘right now.’” “Right now” is the phrase I use to help my student learn that every time he hears “right now”, it means a direction is coming and he has to focus. We would want to avoid using phrases like “pay attention” or “it’s time to focus now.” Because those have negative connotations to them. Here is another situation we are familiar with: our student can’t focus because he keeps thinking about what he has to do later that day. When that happens, I give my student a journal and tell him to take a couple minutes to write down exactly what he has to do after school. This allows him to get rid of what is on his mind at that moment. Then, he is able to focus better. Always remember, children with ADHD need to learn how to deal with distractions. These are just a couple techniques I use to help do that. But don’t think they will solve the problem right away. Living with ADHD is something these kids are going to do forever. So, we need to teach them these techniques and use them day in and day out, CONSISTENTLY. By doing this, it will become a way of life for them!

Tony Robbins: Improve Mental Focus ( Help You Achieve Your Goals )
The Value of Developing Your Mental Focus We all no doubt understand the importance of mental focus. While at school it was probably drilled into you that if you want to succeed you must stay focused and mentally alert at all times. And the same is of course true at work. When people get distracted or sidetracked that is when crucial information is missed; when critical mistakes are made. Given that many people clearly understand this idea, why is it that for the most part they struggle to stay focused? That of course isn’t an easy question to answer. There are more distractions today than probably at any point in human history. And this is why many people struggle to stay focused on the things they know are important, i.e. their goals, tasks, priorities and activities. Given this, have you ever considered what it actually means to maintain an adequate level of focus? To focus on something means having the ability to concentrate; to involve and immerse yourself (full sensory experience) within a task, activity or goal for an extended period of time without distraction. In other words, to focus on something is by no means a passive act. It’s rather something that requires your full involvement and interaction. This is a nice definition of what it means to stay focused, but I guess the challenge for most of us these days isn’t so much an inability to stay focused, it’s rather committing ourselves to stay focused on the right things. Every single person has the ability to stay focused on something for an extended period of time. For some it comes in the form of television, for others it comes in the form of playing video games, for others still it’s all about absorbing themselves within a book. In other words, we all have things that we really enjoy doing that make it easy to stay focused. If only we could harness this focused-attention and direct it onto things that really matter, i.e. achieving our goals and objectives. Consider for a moment something you do that keeps your focus for an extended period of time. Typically this activity or task is something you are passionate about. Typically it’s something that is probably enjoyable, somewhat challenging and something that allows some form of creative self-expression. In a nutshell those are the ingredients required to help you stay focused. However, this may still vary from person-to-person, so in that regard, take a few moments to ask yourself: What tasks, activities, hobbies or pastimes do I enjoy focusing on? What tasks or activities maintain my focused-attention for an extended period of time? What about these tasks and activities specifically allows me to stay focused? Do I find them enjoyable? Do I find them challenging? Do they stretch my imagination? Do they involve many of my senses? What senses specifically? Is there a social component that allows me to stay focused? Does the environment I am undertaking this task or activity play a part in maintaining my focus? Is there something I do specifically during the task or activity that helps me to stay focused? What exactly about these tasks or activities helps me maintain a focused-attention? Working through these questions will help you to pinpoint exactly what it is about these tasks, activities, hobbies or pastimes that helps you stay focused. In other words, you are essentially piecing together the unique ingredients required to help you maintain a high level of focus. The key then will be to seed those ingredients into the tasks, activities and goals that matter most. That is the only way you will convince your brain that you have what it takes to stay focused on your highest priorities, i.e. your goals and tasks.

How To Stay Focused - The Key To Being Extremely Productive & Clear-Minded
How To Stay Focused - The secret of staying focused and productive at work and at home. This one technique will skyrocket your productivity. The Ultimate Life Purpose Course - Create Your Dream Career: http://www.actualized.org/life-purpose-course Leo's Top 140 Self Help Books http://www.actualized.org/books Full Video Transcript Here: http://www.actualized.org/articles/how-to-stay-focused Video Summary: We all struggle to focus at times -- some from attention deficit, some from stimuli overload, or from fatigue or lack of sleep. Without focus, the body at work becomes mindless and careless, and sometimes dangerous. Ideally, we experience periods where we are so fully focused and absorbed by the task that we're effortless transported into the enviable and highly productive state of "flow." This optimal state creates high engagement, challenge and happiness. While "flow" may sometimes happen serendipitously, we can learn to set the stage to summon it. The easiest steps to create flow are to eliminate distractions and interruptions, and then to work in time blocks of 60 to 90 minutes. During these blocks, and as much as possible the rest of the day, do only one thing at a time. Other techniques for improving focus and getting into flow require a little more preparation, such as getting enough sleep and practicing meditation while concentrating on breathing. We've spent too many years living in an all-access, 24 x 7 nonstop world, chronically trying to "multi-task" -- an unnatural and detrimental state for the human mind. Fortunately, with practice, the human mind can un-learn its restless habits and return to its natural state of excellence.

Focusing Resources and Being Nimble in PR
Jamie Firth, Energy Industry Communications veteran, discusses how PublicRelay's media intelligence insight helped him and his team focus resources and truly understand the success of their PR strategies by understanding the health of their brand. Learn more at https://www.publicrelay.com/ _____________________________________________ Transcription: The access to the data that we are now able to get that really gets behind the media coverage and tells us more about what's going on, is hugely important. Being able to distinguish between stories that are really getting attention and moving your audiences in ways that are good or bad versus stories that just aren't really getting much attention, is hugely important and it gave us the ability to figure out where we needed to focus our attention and our resources. It also gave us enough information that was data-driven that we could be credible or more credible I should say, with our senior leadership in terms of recommending strategy. And when there's a problem when there's not a problem what we're gonna do about it. We just had a lot more information at our fingertips and it was quick and it enabled us to move much more nimbly than we'd been doing. It just was a night and day kind of situation between where we were and where where we ended up. Thanks in many ways to PublicRelay.

Need help focusing your attention
Get help to focus at https://padraigking.com Every single person I have ever met has powerful concentration but it is like a wild horse that needs to be tamed and trained if it is to help you plough the furrows of studying, your work life and your sports. Everybody can concentrate but not every one can focus on what they wish to pay attention to. Every day I get calls, texts, whatsapps, messages and pleas from parents to help their daughters and sons to concentrate. I'm delighted to be able to do so with a wide range of techniques that include activities from Brain Gym, Kinesiology and many strategies and activities that I have modified and use to boost concentration. Sometimes parents are disappointed to discover that there is no magic button or super drug that can switch on their kids concentration. After nearly 20 years in classrooms, learning support and with my entire time in my current role I have learned and explain to students and parents that concentration is the cherry on top of the cake or the apex of a pyramid of preparations that must be done for true concentration to take place. If you want to learn more about the quick and easy step by step approach that I use then message me or comment below and let us see how I may help you to help you kids and yourself to concentrate at your true ability levels.
Daniel Goleman: "Focus: the Hidden Driver of Excellence" | Talks at Google
In Focus, Psychologist and journalist Daniel Goleman, author of the #1 international bestseller Emotional Intelligence, offers a groundbreaking look at today's scarcest resource and the secret to high performance and fulfillment: attention. Combining cutting-edge research with practical findings, Focus delves into the science of attention in all its varieties, presenting a long overdue discussion of this little-noticed and under-rated mental asset. In an era of unstoppable distractions, Goleman persuasively argues that now more than ever we must learn to sharpen focus if we are to survive in a complex world. Goleman boils down attention research into a threesome: inner, other, and outer focus. Drawing on rich case studies from fields as diverse as competitive sports, education, the arts, and business, he shows why high-achievers need all three kinds of focus, and explains how those who rely on Smart Practices—mindfulness meditation, focused preparation and recovery, positive emotions and connections, and mental "prosthetics" that help them improve habits, add new skills, and sustain greatness—excel while others do not.

It almost single-handedly determines whether or not we’ll experience a high quality of life and accomplish things that are meaningful to us. Here are three counter-intuitive ways to stay focused: 1. Make fewer decisions. The more decisions we make, the more fatigued our brain becomes and the less effective we are over the long-term. So, first, stop browsing so much! Mindlessly browsing consumes incredible amounts of brainpower; every new link and every new piece of information to pay attention to eats up your mental energy and reserves. It costs you not only your focus, but your willpower and future focal power as well. If you’re looking for something, search for ONE thing, find it… and then stop. Limit your browsing and get back your brain. 2. Define your mission. Most people show up without any intention and, as a result, they end up doing too many things that aren’t important. Ask yourself, “What do I desire in life? What should I be doing with my time at this moment to further my life and mission?” Figure out the steps ahead, take focused action, and be ruthless in minimizing time spent on anything else. 3. Say NO to everything immediately, as a first response, from now on. Don’t immediately commit to projects anymore. Check them against your mission and passions. Ask, “Should I focus on this right now in my life? Yes or no? Is this good for me or bad for me? Is this the right time or wrong time?” Learn to say no to anything that doesn’t fire your heart with full commitment and enthusiasm. Staying focused is one of the most important skills in life. It’s time to commit to getting back to a simple approach to life, to focusing on only one-to-three major things at a time. Day by day, moment by moment, move your life toward only those things that truly engage and energize you. Soon, you will start to experience what we call The Charged Life! ADHD and Relationships: Let's Be Honest
This week, I address one of the biggest problems in ADHD relationships that no one seems to talk about. Disclaimer: to be clear, when I talk about the things we do to preserve the dopamine high, I am NOT saying everyone with ADHD does any or all of these. This part of the video is based heavily on my personal experience. Although those of us with ADHD are certainly more prone to boredom and risk-taking behavior, having ADHD is not an indicator of whether or not a person will cheat. Read more about dopamine! http://www.simplywellbeing.com/under-... Four things ADHD brains can focus on taken from: Puryear, Douglas A. Your Life Can Be Better, Using Strategies for Adult ADD/ADHD. Online Network Marketing Strategies: How Many Should You Have?
Looking for online network marketing strategies? Visit my blog to get free trainings on the top online and offline strategies for your business, go to http://eddielharvey.com Online Network Marketing Strategies    What is up ladies and gentlemen. This is Eddie Harvey here from eddielharvey.com, Online Network Marketing Strategies, how many strategies should you have? Alright in this video I'm gonna talk to you guys about that and share with you my opinion is the amount of strategy that you should be focusing on to build your Network Marketing business online. So let's get right to it.  Online Network Marketing Strategies: How Many Should I Focus On?  Alright guys, so listen we know there are ton of strategies out there online that we can utilize to build our Network Marketing business. The key is how many should we focus on when building our business in the online space. The internet offers so many different things where you have YouTube, you have Facebook, Twitter, you have Snapchat, I almost said Myspace but Myspace is no longer here obviously but I think it made a come-back but used in different ways. But anyway, maybe Myspace is for you. Instagram, Pinterest so many different platforms that you can utilize. If They 6+ Figures Online, they follow this formula: http://eddielharvey.com/mastery The question is how many should you utilize and here is the answer, ONE. Focus in on one strategy and focus in on that strategy intently. Now why is that? Well the reason being guys is because just imagine or just say that you are growing a garden right. And you know with that garden it's gonna take time, you got to plant the seed, you got to, you got to make sure first, make sure the seeds planted on fertile ground. Plant the seed, sow the seed, water them, nurture it, take care of it and then through that process is going can grow you a good harvest right. So imagine trying to do two or even three gardens. I'm pretty sure that you're gonna be very tired in that process, especially if it's something that you're not doing full time, something you're doing part time, dedicating your time. If you're splitting your time up to where you're trying to water garden one over here, number two, a block away and three somewhere else. If you're trying to do that your time is going to be split, your attention, your focus is going to be split and you gonna get tired and one of those garden if not all are going to lack what they need to thrive and grow into the great garden you want to grow into. It's no different than doing it in your business online. You need to focus in on one strategy, focus in on that strategy, invest your time as well as money into it. Online Network Marketing Strategies: How Long Should I Stick With One Strategy? Learn from those who have achieved the success, find mentors in that area, learn from them and take the strategy and techniques that they are teaching and put your own spin and twist on it, on top of what their sharing with you. So learn, implement what you've learn and then teach what you've learned. Do those thing consistently, just suck it all in, take it all in, become a master in of that one strategy and then you'll get to the tune to where you’re now starting to generate let's say 5 to 10 leads per day for yourself and then you'll also be generating sales. Once that happens then you can start looking at adding a second strategy. Why? Because you've mastered this strategy and now you got to where you have a continuos lead flow coming in and its starting generate sales for your business, so now it's kind of like okay you can start focusing on something else because you know what it takes to succeed and you've accomplished what you need to accomplish in that area. Okay, so that's the same thing with online, now you hear me saying this but this is what I've learned from individuals who have created six, seven, eight figures income online guys. Just take one strategy, you master that one strategy and from there get results whether in then move on to something else.    Online Network Marketing Strategies: What One Strategy Should I Choose? Alright so there you have it. Find one strategy guys, whatever resonate with you the best. That's what I would say, what pulls you in, because if it's something you're seeing someone else doing and you think well this person have success with it I'm gonna do it. No, you got to find what pulls you in, what draws you in the most. For me it's video marketing, if you're watching this video obviously you can tell that, but for you it maybe it's Facebook, maybe it's Instagram whatever it may be. Find the strategy that resonates with you the best, take advance of that strategy and just go crazy with it. Take massive action and build your Network Marketing business utilizing that strategy.
