Social Security Changes Coming In A Couple Months – Trump’s Move Will Affect Millions

Please Help Me To 100,000 Sub : American Patriot : https://bit.ly/2yOF8Xi SUB TO BACKUP CHANNEL HERE : https://bit.ly/2DuahBo Social Security Changes Coming In A Couple Months – Trump’s Move Will Affect Millions As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service in the world, RWN offers the following information published by The Motley Fool: More than 62 million Americans receive Social Security benefits, and the money that they receive every month goes a long way toward supporting their financial needs. With benefits available either for retirees or those who become disabled, Social Security plays a vital role in protecting people from financial hardship. Every year, Social Security changes somewhat, with many provisions getting updated on an annual basis. Below, you’ll learn four important facts about Social Security for 2019, including how much a typical recipient can expect to get and what changes are happening over the coming year. 1. Benefits to go up 2.8% Social Security provides an annual cost of living increase to its recipients in order to make up for the impact of inflation. The COLA that will take effect at the beginning of 2019 was just announced last month, and the amount was calculated to be 2.8%. That 2.8% increase will boost what every beneficiary gets from the program. The Social Security Administration (SSA) estimates that the average monthly benefit for retired workers in January 2019 will be $1,461, up $39 because of the COLA calculation. For couples who receive benefits for both members, the average total family benefit of $2,448 per month will be $67 higher than it would have been without the COLA. In addition, family members will see sizable increases. A widowed parent with two children will see average total family benefits of $2,876, up $79 due to the COLA. A surviving spouse without qualifying children will get an average of $1,386 per month, representing a $38 adjustment due to costs of living. 2. A new full retirement age for some retirees in 2019 Full retirement age is the age at which the SSA will pay you the base amount of benefits calculated from your work record. But full retirement age has been in flux lately, with older ages applying to those who were born later. If you turn 62 in 2019, then your full retirement age is 66 and six months. That’s two months older than it was for those who reached age 62 in 2018. What that means is that those who claim at their earliest possible moment will suffer a 27.5% reduction in their monthly payment compared to what their full retirement benefit would have been if they’d waited. By contrast, if you’re older and turn 66 in 2019, you’ll be at your full retirement age on your 66th birthday, because that’s the age that applies for those born between 1943 and 1954. 3. Social Security’s maximum benefit is on the rise 2019 retirees will be eligible for higher payments than those retiring in earlier years. For a worker retiring at full retirement age, the maximum benefit amount will rise $73, to $2,861 per month. The maximum Social Security payment available under the program depends on exactly when you retire. Those who take benefits at 62 will see their maximum monthly benefit rise just $51, to $2,209. However, those who get benefits at 65 will see a jump to $2,757 per month, up $168 from year-ago levels. Waiting until 70 won’t give quite as big a boon, but the maximum will still be $72 higher at $3,770 per month. Moreover, even if you haven’t earned enough during your career to get the maximum benefit, high-income individuals still will get almost that amount — providing a nice supplement to other financial resources. 4. Social Security’s maximum payroll tax is going up, too Social Security gets money from taxes it collects through payroll withholding, and the maximum tax goes up most years. In 2019, earnings of up to $132,900 are subject to tax, up $4,500 from last year’s limit. Employees pay 6.2% of their earnings up to that amount, and employers match that with a 6.2% payment of their own. If you’re self-employed, then you’re on the hook for the full 12.4% total. Social Policy: Crash Course Government and Politics #49

08:54
Today, Craig is going to talk about social policy - in the United States this means achieving one of three goals: protecting Americans from risk, promoting equal opportunity, or assisting the poor. Many Americans strongly believe in individualism, that is self-reliance, but since the Great Depression and the New Deal the government’s role has increased significantly. We’re going to focus on two social policies that came out of the New Deal - Social Security and what we tend to think of as “welfare” - and talk about why they’re still around now and potentially the future. These and other social policies are not without controversy, as things tend to be when involving our tax dollars, and we’re going to talk about that too. Federalism: Crash Course Government and Politics #4

09:15
In which Craig Benzine teaches you about federalism, or the idea that in the United States, power is divided between the national government and the 50 state governments. Craig will teach you about how federalism has evolved over the history of the US, and what powers are given to the federal government, and what stuff the states control on their own. And he punches an eagle, which may not surprise you at all. Separation of Powers and Checks and Balances: Crash Course Government and Politics #3

08:31
In which Craig Benzine teaches you about the US Governments Separation of powers and the system of checks and balances. In theory, the Legislative Branch, the Executive Branch, and the Judicial Brach are designed to keep each other in check, and to keep any branch from becoming too powerful. In reality, the system was designed to keep the president from becoming some kind of autocrat. For the most part, it has worked. Craig will call in the clones to explain which powers belong to which branches, and to reveal some secret perks that the Supreme Court justices enjoy. Advantages and Disadvantages of a Democracy Not Many are Aware Of

08:32
Democracy is a political system in which the supreme power lies in the hands of citizens who can elect people to represent them. In this video, you'll understand the pros and cons of democracy as compared to other forms of government. The most important merit of democracy is that power ultimately rests in the hands of the people who elect their leaders. However, in a country where people do not vote or where elections are influenced by riches or religion, the real meaning of democracy is lost. Every form of government has some shortfalls. People have different views about different political systems. In this video, we'll weigh in on the advantages and disadvantages of democracy. Keep watching. POLITICAL THEORY - Karl Marx

09:28
Karl Marx remains deeply important today not as the man who told us what to replace capitalism with, but as someone who brilliantly pointed out certain of its problems. The School of Life, a pro-Capitalist institution, takes a look. For gifts and more from The School of Life, visit our online shop: https://goo.gl/O1tWri Download our App: https://goo.gl/kj9Vvr FURTHER READING “Most people agree that we need to improve our economic system somehow. It threatens our planet through excessive consumption, distracts us with irrelevant advertising, leaves people hungry and without healthcare, and fuels unnecessary wars. Yet we’re also often keen to dismiss the ideas of its most famous and ambitious critic, Karl Marx. This isn’t very surprising. In practice, his political and economic ideas have been used to design disastrously planned economies and nasty dictatorships. Frankly, the remedies Marx proposed for the ills of the world now sound a bit demented. He thought we should abolish private property. People should not be allowed to own things. At certain moments one can sympathise. But it’s like wanting to ban gossip or forbid watching television. It’s going to war with human behaviour. And Marx believed the world would be put to rights by a dictatorship of the proletariat; which does not mean anything much today. Openly Marxist parties received a total of only 1,685 votes in the 2010 UK general election, out of the nearly 40 million ballots cast…” You can read more on this and many other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org at this link: https://goo.gl/Rt3zri MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/93tGtZ Watch more films on POLITICAL THEORY in our playlist: http://bit.ly/2dma0Sn Do you speak a different language to English? Foreign Interests Spent Half A Billion Dollars Influence Our Government Since 2017

According to a new database put together by Open Secrets, foreign governments and their lobbyist teams have spent more than $500 million since the beginning of 2017 to influence US policy on everything from international conflicts to trade. They've actually taken it over from the Sunlight Foundation that tracks foreign money in the United States and how that influences our elections. And according to them, since the start of the year 2017, so we're talking what, 18, 19 months now, more than $500 million has been spent by foreign nationals and foreign agents on lobbying and other activities to directly influence the United States government. The grand total, I believe is a little more than ... It's $534 million since the start of 2017 that foreign governments have been paying their lobbyist and their officials to come over here, lobby the US government to enact policies that benefit that foreign country. Keep in mind, these are not any policies that are going to benefit Americans in any way. If anything, given what some of these countries are asking for, it could put more American lives at risk, be they military members or even private contractors going over to foreign countries. We get no benefit whatsoever from this money that foreign nationals are spending to influence our government. And here's the plot twist, do you know who the biggest spender is out of the last 18, 19 months? The country that spent the most money lobbying the United States? South Korea. Number two was Japan. Now four Middle Eastern countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, they also cracked the top 10, and we know exactly what they want the United States to do. But it is odd that the top two are South Korea and Japan. Now we know what South Korea wants us to do. They want us to bolster them with military should something happen with North Korea. They do live in fear of what this madman that lives to the north could eventually do, what he would do. Talks between the two countries, between the three countries, between every country with North Korea always sem to fall part no matter who was making that negotiation, so yeah. They want the United States to be able to step in and flex our military muscle, put our guys' lives at risk to protect them. It's a noble cause, but at the same time, not necessarily one that the United States really needs to be involved in. We attempted that before and it didn't end well. Nonetheless, these foreign governments that are sending their people over here to lobby our government are doing it because they have a financial stake in the outcome. They want the US to go over and protect them. They want the US to enact trade deals that benefit that country. They want the US to give up everything they can because it's gonna make those politicians a lot of money. It's gonna make the government a lot of money. It's gonna make the other country a lot of money. And in the end, as always, the only person who gets screwed out of anything is the average American worker.

Dark SECRETS Walmart DOESNT Want You To Know!

12:29
Check out these dark secrets walmart doesn't want you to know! This top 10 list of disturbing facts about the people of walmart you probably didn't know will leave you shocked at what's really happening behind the scenes of walmart! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "Most DISTURBING Secrets About Disney!" video here: https://youtu.be/hQ0FIFYz7P0 Watch our "Top 5 Most Mysterious and Powerful Secret Societies" video here: https://youtu.be/0Lu4Uvc5EhA Watch our "Dark SECRETS Brands Don't Want You To Find Out!" video here: https://youtu.be/ejz5wvVpY5w 10.) Walmart is as Rich as a Country If Walmart were a country it would be in the list of the top 30 richest countries in the world! In fact, in the past few years, Walmart would have been on the list as numbers 28 and 25. It is said that Walmart could actually destroy several countries around the world. The financial capability of Walmart would be right up there on the list with countries like Turkey, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In 2012 Walmart basked in a shocking $444 billion in sales. This is $20 billion more than Australia’s yearly Gross Domestic Product. Walmart makes about $1.8 million in sales every single hour, which is more than most people earn in a lifetime. 9.) Sales Aren’t Always Sales Walmart is great for finding some good deals, and as they always advertise, they always have low prices. Many locations will also price match! However, Walmart tends to lie about many of their sales prices. Research has shown that many times Walmart actually sells things at the recommended retail price. But to trick people into believing it is a sale, they put a sale sticker around the item with the regular price. This trick makes you think you are getting something on sale but in reality customers are not saving any money by buying the item at Walmart. However, it is not just Walmart that plays into this trick. Many major retail chains do this and you just have to be an educated consumer and not fall into their trap!!! The other day I saw a product on sale and it was a 2 cent price drop. 8.) Low Wages Walmart is known for paying some of the lowest wages in the US, sometimes even under minimum wage. Walmart uses every trick in the book to keep costs low, and they are professionals. Allegedly they have assisted illegal immigrants in crossing the border and only allow legal employees to work 32 hours per week so they can't receive full-time employee benefits. How they help people cross the border I have no idea. Does Walmart have Coyotes? Or pay off border patrol? Or build tunnels? They may be involved in all kinds of shenanigans we don’t know about. The more you learn about the extensive reach of corporations, the scarier everything gets. Walmart is also known to intentionally only pay workers minimum wage so the employees have to take advantage of government assistance programs. Therefore, Walmart saves money on both their employees' salaries and does not have to provide them with any benefits. In a report published by the House Committee of Education and Welfare, they estimated that if a Walmart had around 200 employees, they would use $420,750 of federal taxpayers money per year, or over $2 thousand per employee! Walmart obviously has more than enough money to properly pay their employees but choose not to and use the system to their advantage. On top of this, there have also been lawsuits against Walmart that stated they did not pay low wages to employees at all. As of December 2002, 39 class action lawsuits in 30 states were filed against the corporation claiming tens of millions of dollars in back pay owed to hundreds of thousands of employees. These lawsuits included instances of Walmart forcing employees to work through breaks, forcing employees to work off the clock, and even deleting hours from employees’ time sheets without their knowledge. 7.) Illegally Firing Workers If you do a google search on Walmart firing their workers illegally, you will run into a lot of articles talking about their lawsuits. Walmart employees are often fired for protesting or speaking up about their low wages. In 2014, Walmart fired about 19 employees who were protesting for better working conditions. No protesting allowed!! There have also been other cases, such as in 2013 when Walmart employees protested for organization. Workers then backed by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) planned to bus into Bentonville, Arkansas, to crash the company’s 2013 shareholder meeting. Walmart’s corporate office got wind of the “Ride for Respect” plan and flew into action by monitoring activists’ social media activity Origins Explained is the place to be to find all the answers to your questions, from mysterious events and unsolved mysteries to everything there is to know about the world and its amazing animals!

Civil Rights & Liberties: Crash Course Government #23

07:56
Today, Craig is going to give you an overview of civil rights and civil liberties. Often these terms are used interchangeably, but they are actually very different. Our civil liberties, contained in the Bill of Rights, once only protected us from the federal government, but slowly these liberties have been incorporated to protect us from the states. We’ll take a look at how this has happened and the supreme court cases that got us here. Political Ideology: Crash Course Government and Politics #35

08:47
So today Craig is going to look at political ideology in America. We're going to focus on liberals and conservatives and talk about the influencers of both of these viewpoints. Now, it's important to remember that political ideologies don't always perfectly correspond with political parties, and this correspondence becomes less and less likely over time. So, sure we can say that Democrats tend to be liberal and Republicans tend to be conservative, but we're not going to be talking about political parties in this episode. It's also important to note, that there are going to be a lot of generalizations here, as most peoples' ideologies fall on a spectrum, but we're going to try our best *crosses fingers* to summarize the most commonly held viewpoints for each of these positions as they are used pretty frequently in discussions of American politics. The majority of the benefits we will see in the studies below come from EPA and DHA. You’ll find these omega 3’s mainly in cold water fish and fish oil, while ALA is mainly found in plant sources. That being said, there’s a common misconception here is that you have to eat fish oil to get EPA and DHA. But when you consume ALA from plant sources your body will convert around 5% - 20% of it to EPA and DHA. #1. As strongly as I feel about any issue, I understand the opposition. But there is an exception: the death penalty for murder. Here, the gulf is unbridgeable between those of us who believe that some murderers – and I emphasize some murderers – should be put to death and those who believe that no murderer should ever be put to death. Take this example: On the afternoon of July 23, 2007, in the town of Cheshire, Connecticut, two men broke into the home of Dr. William Petit, his wife Jennifer and his two daughters. The men beat Dr. Petit nearly to death with a baseball bat; one of the men raped the doctor’s wife; and the other man sexually assaulted their 11 year-old daughter, Michaela. The two men then strangled Mrs. Petit to death, tied down the two daughters on beds, doused them with gasoline, and, while the girls were still alive, set the house on fire. Dr. Petit survived, but his wife and daughters did not. Those opposed to capital punishment believe that these two men have a right to keep their lives. So, is there anything a person can do to deserve the death penalty? To those opposed to capital punishment, the answer is no. In fact, many opponents of capital punishment believe that killing murderers is the same as murder. You heard me right – most opponents equate the murder of an innocent family with putting the murderers of that family to death. Opponents of capital punishment also argue that keeping all murderers alive sanctifies the value of human life. But the opposite is true. Keeping every murderer alive cheapens human life because it belittles murder. That’s easily proven. Imagine that the punishment for murder were the same as the punishment for driving over the speed limit. Wouldn’t that belittle murder and thereby cheapen human life? Of course, it would. Society teaches how bad an action is by the punishment it metes out. And what about the pain inflicted on the loved ones of those murdered? For most people, their suffering is immeasurably increased knowing that the person who murdered their family member or friend – and who, in many cases, inflicted unimaginable terror on that person – is alive and being cared for. Of course, putting the murderer to death doesn’t bring back their loved one, but it sure does provide some sense of justice. That’s why Dr. Petit, a physician whose life is devoted to saving lives, wants the murderers of his wife and daughters put to death. In his words, death "is really the only true just punishment for certain heinous and depraved murders." Is the doctor wrong? Is he immoral? Well, if you think capital punishment is immoral, then Dr. Petit is immoral. And what about opponents’ argument that an innocent person may be executed? This argument may be sincerely held, but it’s not honest. Why? Because opponents of capital punishment oppose the death penalty even when there is absolute proof of the murderer’s guilt. If there were a video of a man burning a family alive, opponents of capital punishment would still oppose taking that man’s life. SNAP EBT Food Stamps Potentially CUT! REPLACED By Food Delivery?!

18:00
MAJOR WARNING! In what would be one of the biggest controversies regarding the U.S. food-stamp program in its five-decade history, President Donald Trump is now proposing to slash cash payments and substitute them with “100 percent American grown food” given to recipients. This was announced as of Mon. Feb. 12th, 2018. Per the budget proposal released by the White House, The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is looking to reform the program in order to save nearly $214 billion over the next decade… Along with saving over $17 billion in 2019 alone. According to the proposal, SNAP electronic benefit transfer (EBT) recipients receiving more than $90 a month in cash would instead receive a food-aid package that would “include items such as shelf-stable milk, ready to eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit, vegetables, and meat, poultry or fish” — should the proposal be approved by Congress. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) also released a budget summary for fiscal year 2019 — outlining their budget plans for all their respective programs. They too are looking to cut over $200 billion in food stamp programs over the next decade. In the report, they also outline their budget’s seven strategic goals: Goal 1: Ensure USDA programs are delivered efficiently, effectively, with integrity and a focus on customer service Goal 2: Maximize the ability of American agricultural producers to prosper by feeding and clothing the world Goal 3: Promote American agricultural products and exports Goal 4: Facilitate rural prosperity and economic development Goal 5: Strengthen the stewardship of private lands through technology and research Goal 6: Ensure productive and sustainable use of our national forest system lands Goal 7: Provide All Americans access to safe, nutritious, and secure food supply And if that wasn’t enough, The North American Treaty Organization (NATO) recently agreed to establish two new military command centers in both the U.S. and Germany, marking the first upgrades of the command structure since the end of the Cold War… Another goal towards world war. Human Experimentation: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

12:26
In the early days of the space race, agency researchers in Russia and at NASA really weren't sure all what would happen to an astronaut in space. They didn't know if a human mind could handle actually seeing Earth or what would happen to the human body when exposed to long periods of weightlessness. Would their blood forget which way to pump? Would their eyeballs shift or their inner ears wig out? They sent up mice and monkeys and dogs, to see what happened, and in 1961, the Russians strapped a man to a rocket headed for orbit. Yuri Gagarin was the first person in space. The ultimate human guinea pig, he survived, becoming an international hero. Like SciShow? The Progressive Era: Crash Course US History #27

Also, if you can afford to pay a little every month, it really helps keep the channel producing great content. In which John Green teaches you about the Progressive Era in the United States. In the late 19th and early 20th century in America, there was a sense that things could be improved upon. A sense that reforms should be enacted. A sense that progress should be made. As a result, we got the Progressive Era, which has very little to do with automobile insurance, but a little to do with automobiles. All this overlapped with the Gilded Age, and is a little confusing, but here we have it. Basically, people were trying to solve some of the social problems that came with the benefits of industrial capitalism. To oversimplify, there was a competition between the corporations' desire to keep wages low and workers' desire to have a decent life. Improving food safety, reducing child labor, and unions were all on the agenda in the Progressive Era. While progress was being made, and people were becoming more free, these gains were not equally distributed. Jim Crow laws were put in place in the south, and immigrant rights were restricted as well. So once again on Crash Course, things aren't so simple. 5 Steps to KILL Sugar Addiction (FOREVER!)

12:05
Learn how to QUIT SUGAR & break your sugar addiction. You'll be amazed when you see what happens if you just stop eating sugar cold turkey for 30 days. A month long sugar detox will kill cravings naturally. If you challenge yourself to reduce or cut sugar out of your diet you're body will naturally demand less of it. 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitychallenges.com/home65d4f?utm_source=ytube&utm_term=blast Fat Loss Calculator: https://bit.ly/2RH4sGS Timestamps: #1 Eliminate All Sweets – 2:52 #2 Only Drink Water or Unsweetened Tea – 4:19 #3 Eat more proteins and vegetables – 5:35 #4 Read all the nutrition labels – 7:01 #5 Limit your use of artificial sweeteners – 8:18 Sugar tastes delicious, makes you instantly feel good, and deserts like cake, cookies, and ice cream just wouldn't be the same without it, but eating too much sugar can lead to some serious problems ranging from weight gain to fatty liver disease and diabetes. And even though eating just one oreo won't necessarily make you gain weight and definitely won't turn you into a diabetic, almost nobody eats just one oreo. In fact according to the U.S. Departments of Health the average American has about 17 teaspoons of sugar per day. Other sources estimate that americans are having close to 25 teaspoons of sugar per day, which is much higher than any other country in the world and it's double the amount of sugar that's recommended by the world health organization. The biggest problem with sugar is that it's an empty calorie, that won't fill you up, but it will instead leave you craving more. Studies show that consuming too much sugar can lead to leptin resistance, and leptin is the hormone that's released by you fat cells to let you know when you're full. If you're body becomes resistant to leptin there are much higher chances of overeating, while still feeling hungry, which is a perfect storm for gaining weight. Some studies have also shown that sugar may be addicting and may have some similar effects on the brain as drugs and alcohol. Although in humans this effect is considered much less intense than the effects of drugs, animal based studies have shown that over consumption can cause neurochemical and behavioral changes leading to the same craving, binging, and withdrawl cycles. Some of these studies show that rats will even choose sugar over cocaine.. Now my objective isn't to scare you away from sugar, there are ways that you can balance it with the rest of your diet, and most of the crazy sugar phobia out there comes from one man named Robert Lustig and his cherry picked research that has largely been debunked. Instead of scaring you my objective is to put you in control of how much sugar you're having by reducing your cravings for it. And one of the best ways to reduce your desire for sugar or even your borderline addiction to sugar, is by avoiding it entirely until you develop a healthier relationship to it. So in this video I want to go Research: Government Recommendations For Sugar Intake & How Much Americans Actually Eat https://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/2015/resources/DGA_Cut-Down-On-Added-Sugars.pdf Sugar consumption According to Euromonitor: https://blog.euromonitor.com/global-nutrition-overview-sugar/ Sugar and Leptin Resistance: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18703413 Sugar and Addiction: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2235907/ Evidence for Sugar Addiction: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17617461 Rats Prefer Sugar over Cocaine: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1931610/ Eliminating Processed Food Can Help Dramatically Reduce Sugar Intake: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4785287/ Processed Foods Make Up 77% Of Our Grocery List: https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/101/6/1251/4626878 Sweetened Beverages and Sugar: https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/98/4/1084/4577098 Sweetened Beverages Increase Visceral Fat: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26755505 Water, Energy Intake, and Weight Loss/Gain: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2929932/ Systematic Review of Protein and its effect on satiety: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15466943 0.5g of Protein Per LB Is Enough To Reduce Appetite https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23107521 Reducing dietary energy density in combination with increasing fruits and veggetables leads to greater weight loss: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17556681 Nutrition Label Users Are More Likely To Eat Less Sugar and A Better Diet https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29389508 Artificial sweeteners lead to decreased satiety, alter glucose homeostasis, and are associated with increased caloric consumption and weight gain https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29159583 Metanalysis of artificial sweetners and their effect on the heart as well as weight loss https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28716847 Stevia shows promise as an artificial sweetner. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4890837/

Texas Supreme Court Rules Against Same-Sex Couple Marriage Benefits

01:15
The Texas Supreme Court ruled on Friday that same-sex couples are not necessarily entitled to government-dispensed spousal benefits, dealing a blow to backers of marriage equality, who have vowed to appeal. The Republican-dominated court said the landmark 2015 U.S. Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges, which made same-sex marriage legal nationwide, did not resolve issues such as payments of municipal employees' spousal benefits. "The Supreme Court held in Obergefell that the Constitution requires states to license and recognize same-sex marriages to the same extent that they license and recognize opposite-sex marriages," the Texas court wrote in its opinion, "but it did not hold that states must provide the same publicly funded benefits to all married persons." Rights groups for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people contended the plaintiffs were trying to erode the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on an already settled matter. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/domesticNews/~3/-o_S4H3oebI/us-texas-gaymarriage-idUSKBN19L2HP http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Vote It using http://wochit.com

Endangered Species: Worth Saving from Extinction?

Does it matter? Find out in this video. ABOVE THE NOISE is a show that cuts through the hype and investigates the research behind controversial and trending topics in the news. Hosted by Myles Bess. *NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER WEDNESDAY* SUBSCRIBE by clicking the RED BUTTON above. Follow us on Instagram @kqedabovethenoise What does it mean when a species goes extinct? A species goes extinct when there are no longer any more of that species left on earth. That species is gone forever aka extinct. What is the 6th mass extinction? Throughout earth’s history there have been five major mass extinction events-- where a large percentage of species died out. Scientists estimate that we are in the middle of the 6th mass extinction event right now, where species are dying out at 1,000 to 10,000 times baseline extinction rates. Why should we care if a species goes extinct? Moral and ethical arguments to try to prevent species extinction include reasons like all life has a right to be here, or that we owe it to our grandchildren to protect species so they can see them in the wild. Species also impact the ecosystems they are a part of; plants and animals depend on each other in an ecosystem for things like food and shelter, so if one species dies out, then that could affect other species in an ecosystem. For example sea otters live in kelp forests and eat sea urchins, and when they were hunted almost to extinction the sea urchin population increased and ate all the kelp-- destroying the kelp forest habitat. What are ecosystem services? Ecosystem services are the collective benefits we get from ecosystems. Ecosystems provide us with a lot of great things like natural resources and water, and are home to living things we depend on-- like insects that pollinate our crops and decomposers that get rid of our waste. Ecosystems are healthiest when they are the most biodiverse.
