AI for Supply Chain

24:47
Every product in your home is there as a result of being distributed across whats called a supply chain. The path that a commodity takes through manufacturing, transport, distribution centers, etc. is called the supply chain. The supply chain for most companies is riddled with inefficiencies. Late drivers, bad weather conditions, suboptimal planning, timing issues, the list of things that can go wrong is endless and most of this coordination is done by humans. AI can be used to optimize this entire pipeline, from planning to autonomous transport. In this video i'll demo an app using IBM's Logistic Wizard to optimize a simulated companies supply chain, as well as build a time series forecasting model using Keras to predict the price of a shipment on a certain date. MYSTICA.TV: Robert Schwartz - Your Soul's Plan

20:08
What happens in between lives, if there would be rebirth? This is a topic tackled by hypnotherapist and writer Robert Schwartz. Using spiritual media, he asked a lot of people, being in the process of regression, about plans made by their souls in the spiritual world, before their life started. Surprisingly, especially the most extraordinary and challenging troubles or crisis often seem to be planned, usually according to agreement with souls they meet, which they probably knew due to previous lives. This way a karmic learning process takes place, that shapes up the soul life by life. In the interview with Thomas Schmelzer, the writer talks about his work and his conclusions of life’s meaningfulness. Since his spiritual awakening in 2003, Robert Schwartz, originally a freelance journalist and marketing expert, deals with researches of „Life planning before birth“. This author and instructor is internationally in great demand, he offers self-awareness workshops and individual, spiritual mentoring. http://yoursoulsplan.com More articles and interviews: http://www.mystica.tv MYSTICA ist a german online journal with articles, Videos and much more.

Programming On Demand: Wrangling, Iterating, and Opportunistic Learning

01:07:22
Job talk at Dartmouth. 2013-02-20 Title: Programming On Demand: Wrangling, Iterating, and Opportunistic Learning Abstract: Most people who write computer programs today are not CS majors or professional software engineers. Millions of people such as computational researchers, business analysts, data scientists, and statisticians write programs on-demand to discover insights from data. This talk will present three tools I have built to support and educate this large and growing class of nonprofessional programmers: 1.) Proactive Wrangler is a mixed-initiative end-user programming tool that alleviates the tedium of cleaning and reformatting data. 2.) Burrito is an experiment management and note-taking system that serves as a virtual lab assistant. 3.) Online Python Tutor is a Web-based program state visualizer that over 200,000 people have used as a supplement to learning on-demand from digital textbooks, Web-based tutorials, and MOOCs. I will conclude with my future research plans at the convergence of HCI, software engineering, and educational technology. --- Biography: Philip J. Guo works on educational technology and programmer productivity tools at Google. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2012 and S.B. and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2006, winning the annual department master's thesis award. Philip's research passions span the areas of HCI, software engineering, and educational technology. In addition to publishing papers, he loves creating software and writing online articles that impact hundreds of thousands of people. Visit www.pgbovine.net for more details.

Purposeful Collaboration - What Could It Mean for Your S&OP Process

01:08:52
Webcast Abstract: Even with heavy investments in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), many organizations are not achieving material or sustainable breakthroughs. This is often because they are executing a sequential, disjointed process with contributors operating in their narrow functional box. In this webcast, learn how purposeful collaboration can connect content, conversations, colleagues and communities to drive improved business outcomes. Topics covered: Harnessing and capitalizing on “working social” in a B2B environment Using the key tenets of purposeful collaboration to enable effective decision-making, resolution and consensus building Capabilities required to facilitate purposeful collaboration in S&OP Changing the mindset away from the individual supply chain / S&OP functions to connecting functions and most importantly, people Speakers: Alan Lepofsky, VP and Principal Analyst, Constellation Research With almost two decades of experience in the software industry, Alan helps organizations understand how to develop, purchase and implement collaboration solutions. Rather than evangelizing how social software can change the way people work, he instead focuses on how organizations can improve their existing business processes by providing access to the colleagues, content and communities that can help people get their work done more effectively. Trevor Miles, VP Thought Leadership, Kinaxis As vice president of Thought Leadership, Trevor serves as an expert source for Kinaxis customers, prospects, industry analysts and journalists. Known throughout the supply chain field, he has published many articles, presented at various industry events, and is the primary contributor to the Kinaxis 21st Century Supply Chain blog.

POLITICAL THEORY - John Maynard Keynes

John Maynard Keynes was arguably the greatest economist of the 20th century. He discovered the idea that governments should stimulate demand during economic downturns – and was the creator of both the IMF and the World Bank. His ideas continue to underpin a lot of the modern economic system. Supply And Demand Articles And The US Economy Heroin Addiction

01:07
http://www.juanflorez.com/blog/supply-and-demand-articles-and-the-us-economy-heroin-addiction Supply And Demand Articles There used to be an era in which a strong economy resulted in a strong stock and real estate market. Now, real estate housing and the stock market seem to rally regardless how well the economy does. The central bank baby pouch seems to offer life support have made our times into a fiesta. Supply and demand articles from the media signal out a jobless recovery but a recovery is not a real recovery without jobs. Although common perception seems to be running at all-time highs, eventually we are going to have to pay it all back. The idea that an economy could borrow without end while expecting good times ahead seems very misleading. At some point we are not just going to have to pay back the principle of our debt but also the interest on it. At a time when about a third of our revenue goes to interest payments, it seems unpredictable to calculate how accurate it will be able to cover those interest payments costs in the future even more so when we have no spare productive capacity and our industries are bleeding with heavy taxation and regulation. Over 60% of the free money that sustains our bloated government spending comes from the Federal Reserve via bond and collateralized mortgage backed securities purchases. Since Obama took office our national debt has almost doubled from ten trillion to almost 17 trillion dollars, nearly doubling it in nearly 5 years what took centuries since the birth of the republic. Both congressional parties seem agree that either raising taxes or decreasing spending are out of the discussion table. So the only two remedies in dealing with our debt are borrowing and inflation. As we have seen in recent years, both parties have a track record of raising the debt ceiling and opting out for more borrowing and spending to solve our debt problem. Supply And Demand Articles: America's Desperate Resolve For Survival Mainstream economists supply and demand articles will point out the dangers of deflation, or contraction of the money supply with decreases in consumer prices, and will even go as far as suggest that in fact more inflation is needed to prop up our economy. Perhaps they are right up to a certain extent in that our economy is addicted to stimulus money from the central bank the same way a heroin addict needs higher doses of heroin the keep the party going. These Keynesian economists will go farther to make the statement that at least a two percent inflation target is needed to prevent people from postponing their spending and purchases. But their logic is flawed from inception. Will someone not buy $100 dollars in food today because it might decrease 1% in a year from now? "Supply and demand articles" from news outlets and mainstream economists do not point out that an economy grows by production, under-consumption and savings. These savings turn into capital to finance projects which in turn create jobs and improves a country's standard of living. While ninety five percent of the articles condemn deflation, it is inflation that destabilizes an economy by misallocating resources to where they could be better utilized. The same people whose logic led to the financial crisis are leading us again out of it. Our government, the biggest debtor in the history of the world supports inflation as a way to pay for its wasteful spending and expansion. Sooner or later we will come to realize that it is not wise to spend money to get out of debt but instead resort to discipline, savings and production. If you are looking for other "SANE" supply and demand articles then I suggest you go here for more quality resources. Did you enjoy our supply and demand articles economic review on inflation and our current state of the economy? Then you are welcome to leave a comment and share where do you think we are headed for the coming months and years. http://www.juanflorez.com/blog/supply-and-demand-articles-and-the-us-economy-heroin-addiction

The Rise and Fall of Urban Economies - Lessons from San Francisco and Los Angeles

01:05:42
In his lecture, Mr. Storper discusses his new book, “The Rise and Fall of Urban Economies: Lessons from San Francisco and Los Angeles.” This book challenges many conventional notions about economic development. The authors argue that it is essential to understand the interactions of three major components—economic specialization, human capital formation, and institutional factors—to determine how well a regional economy will cope with new opportunities and challenges. They argue that the economic development of metropolitan regions hinges on previously under-explored capacities for organizational change in firms, networks of people, and networks of leaders. By studying San Francisco and Los Angeles in unprecedented levels of depth, this book extracts lessons for the field of economic development studies and urban regions around the world. Speaker: Michael Storper Director of Global Public Affairs, UCLA Luskin Professor of Urban Planning, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs Discussant: Elizabeth Currid-Halkett Professor, USC Price James Irvine Chair in Urban and Regional Planning Michael Storper (PhD, Economic Geography, University of California, Berkeley) is an economic geographer who has spent his career at UCLA, London School of Economics, and Sciences Po/Paris. Prior to joining UCLA, he was Academic Director of the Master of Public Affairs, as well as researcher at the Center for Organizational Sociology at Sciences Po in Paris. He holds an appointment as Professor of Economic Geography at the London School of Economics in every fall term. Storper is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed academic articles and 12 books. A number of his articles are among the most highly-cited in the journals in which they have been published. He received a "Doctorate Honoris Causa" from the University of Utrecht in 2008, and a Prime d’Excellence Scientifique in 2010. He sits on the editorial board of numerous scientific journals, including the Journal of Regional Science, Industrial and Corporate Change, The Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society, Studies in Comparative International Development, and Economic Geography. Storper is a frequent contributor to regional and urban policymaking for the European Union, the French government, and other international agencies. He holds dual French-‐ American citizenship and is a fluent speaker of English, French and Portuguese.

Learning to Think Strategically: Why there a Demand and Shrinking Supply

50:37
10-2-17 | Answers for the Family Interview | Dr. Julia Sloan Host Allen Cardoza Article after article and leader after leader pleads and ploys for innovative global strategists – not as a mere means of survival, but to compete! So where are these strategists and who are they? Learning to Think Strategically hones in on just this very issue. The absence of strategic thinkers is a resounding cry that is echoed around the globe by senior leaders in business, military and government. Yet Julia Sloan suggests that most leaders are entrapped in an outdated, industrial-age mindset when it comes to the approach they use for developing strategic thinkers—one that is devoid of an imaginative edge and clueless about how people learn to think strategically. Sloan declares that, “Successful strategy is always past tense” and if organizations have more than a hope and a prayer of remaining competitive, it is necessary that leaders understand the underlying learning process that supports strategic thinking in order to develop innovative winning strategic thinkers. This is the first book to exclusively address how successful strategists learn to think strategically. It presents a previously unexamined account of the relationship between strategic thinking and the learning process involved. Learning to Think Strategically is based on research that draws upon real-life lessons learned by global business strategists and the application of those lessons for corporate, government, military leaders and academics. Conceptualized within a learning theory framework, this book explores a definite tension between organizational strategy needs and the cognitive process required for learning strategic thinking in contrast to that required for strategic planning. ABOUT DR. JULIA SLOAN Dr. Julia Sloan is a leading authority on the cognitive aspect of strategic thinking and is widely recognized for her pioneering work on the application of complex cognitive theory to everyday strategic thinking practice in global business and public policy. Her strategic thinking work draws upon more than two decades of her own expatriate corporate experience in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and North America, working on strategy to align the business agenda with prevailing economic, cultural and social issues. She is the author of the definitive book, Learning to Think Strategically, and has also written numerous privately commissioned articles and white papers on the topic of strategic thinking for corporations, policy institutes and think tanks. Julia teaches strategic thinking at Columbia University and has lectured at some of the premier academic institutions. Awarded a Researcher in Residence fellowship for 2016-2017 for the study of the cognitive and conceptual role of metaphor on the development of strategic thinking, Julia has been the recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award, Ahead-of-the-Curve Teaching Award, Outstanding Teaching Award, and the Innovative Influencer Award. She has served on several college and non-profit advisory boards. A resident of New York City, Julia’s educational background includes a doctorate from Columbia University; master’s studies at Yale University and University of Alaska; and undergraduate studies from Kent State University.

Demand for money | Wikipedia audio article

18:08
This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Demand for money Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. You can find other Wikipedia audio articles too at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuKfABj2eGyjH3ntPxp4YeQ You can upload your own Wikipedia articles through: https://github.com/nodef/wikipedia-tts "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." - Socrates SUMMARY ======= In monetary economics, the demand for money is the desired holding of financial assets in the form of money: that is, cash or bank deposits rather than investments. It can refer to the demand for money narrowly defined as M1 (directly spendable holdings), or for money in the broader sense of M2 or M3. Money in the sense of M1 is dominated as a store of value (even a temporary one) by interest-bearing assets. However, M1 is necessary to carry out transactions; in other words, it provides liquidity. This creates a trade-off between the liquidity advantage of holding money for near-future expenditure and the interest advantage of temporarily holding other assets. The demand for M1 is a result of this trade-off regarding the form in which a person's funds to be spent should be held. In macroeconomics motivations for holding one's wealth in the form of M1 can roughly be divided into the transaction motive and the precautionary motive. The demand for those parts of the broader money concept M2 that bear a non-trivial interest rate is based on the asset demand. These can be further subdivided into more microeconomically founded motivations for holding money. Generally, the nominal demand for money increases with the level of nominal output (price level times real output) and decreases with the nominal interest rate. The real demand for money is defined as the nominal amount of money demanded divided by the price level. For a given money supply the locus of income-interest rate pairs at which money demand equals money supply is known as the LM curve. The magnitude of the volatility of money demand has crucial implications for the optimal way in which a central bank should carry out monetary policy and its choice of a nominal anchor. Conditions under which the LM curve is flat, so that increases in the money supply have no stimulatory effect (a liquidity trap), play an important role in Keynesian theory. This situation occurs when the demand for money is infinitely elastic with respect to the interest rate. A typical money-demand function may be written as M d = P × L ( R , Y ) {\displaystyle M^{d}=P\times L(R,Y)\,} where M d {\displaystyle M^{d}} is the nominal amount of money demanded, P is the price level, R is the nominal interest rate, Y is real income, and L(.) is real money demand. An alternate name for L ( R , Y ) {\displaystyle L(R,Y)} is the liquidity preference function.

The Most Persistent Economic Fallacy of All Time!

02:52
From a lecture given by Dr. Milton Friedman in Erie, Pennsylvania (1978). This is essentially a restatement of the "parable of the broken window." This fallacy has been known since at least 1850 when French theorist Frédéric Bastiat published a pamphlet entitled, "That Which is Seen and That Which is Not Seen." You can read it here: http://bastiat.org/en/twisatwins.html It was popularized in 1946 by economist Henry Hazlitt in an important book called, "Economics in One Lesson." According to economist Walter Block, the book was instrumental in converting him from communism to capitalism. (Incidentally, Block's book "Defending the Undefendable" was instrumental in converting John Stossel to libertarianism.) It can be downloaded for free from the Foundation for Economic Education here: http://www.fee.org/pdf/books/Economics_in_one_lesson.pdf Download "Defending the Undefendable" by Walter Block here: http://mises.org/books/defending.pdf John Stossel has a nice little video of this fallacy under the guise of so-called "green jobs." Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNjAielBBG0 Stossel also has a great article about this fallacy under yet another guise known as "Cash for Clunkers." Read it here: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/09/02/clunker_legislation_98131.html# From The Boston Globe (1 Sep. 10): "...the supply of used cars is artificially low, because your Uncle Sam decided last year to destroy hundreds of thousands of perfectly good automobiles as part of its hare-brained Car Allowance Rebate System — or, as most of us called it, Cash for Clunkers. That was the program under which the government paid consumers up to $4,500 when they traded in an old car and bought a new one with better gas mileage. The traded-in cars — which had to be in drivable condition to qualify for the rebate — were then demolished: Dealers were required to chemically wreck each car's engine, and send the car to be crushed or shredded. Congress and the Obama administration trumpeted Cash for Clunkers as a triumph — the president pronounced it "successful beyond anybody's imagination.'' Which it was, if you define success as getting people to take "free'' money to make a purchase most of them are going to make anyway, while simultaneously wiping out productive assets that could provide value to many other consumers for years to come. By any rational standard, however, this program was sheer folly." http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2010/09/01/clunkers_a_classic_government_folly/ Also, a report from Edmunds shows that it cost American taxpayers $24,000 to give away $4,500! http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/28/autos/clunkers_analysis/index.htm From CNN Money / Fortune Magazine (17 Nov. 09): "Cash for Clunkers. It was a well-intentioned plan that was supposed to increase consumer confidence, spur fuel efficiency, jump-start the auto industry, and help create American jobs. Instead it disproportionately benefited foreign car companies, which create fewer North American jobs per auto dollar than the Detroit Three do. And sales came mostly from inventory, doing little to increase production and jobs. What's more, by junking clunkers, the program removed many low-end vehicles from the used-car market, running up prices for the lower-income people who'd normally buy them. So we hurt the people most in need of help, while throwing taxpayer dollars down the drain. " http://money.cnn.com/2009/11/16/news/economy/bad_business.fortune/index.htm?cnn=yes# The last paragraph above is the most important. A well-intentioned plan that hurt the very people it was intended to help? That's the only thing the government does consistently well! To find out one of the reasons why, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyW8US8qeDM From WaPo (22 Feb. 10): "A law hailed as the most sweeping piece of consumer legislation in decades has helped make it more difficult for millions of Americans to get credit, and made that credit more expensive." http://mjperry.blogspot.com/2010/02/distortionary-effects-of-regulations.html#links This video is an excerpt from Milton Friedman Speaks: Lecture 13, "Who Protects the Worker?" http://www.freetochoose.net/store/product_info.php?products_id=97

LRP Video Abstract: Demand side Strategy and Business Models

02:21
"Demand side Strategy and Business Models: Putting Value Creation for Consumers Center Stage" Paper published by Richard Priem, Matthias Wenzel, and Jochen Koch in Long Range Planning Download the paper here: https://goo.gl/sorvL5 Abstract: "Value creation for consumers, as the conditio sine qua non for value capture, is at the heart of demand-side strategy research and is a core element of almost any business model. In this paper, we discuss the unique ideas that demand-side strategy and business model research jointly contribute to the strategy literature, and we elaborate on the potential for cross-fertilization between both areas of study. We argue that both the demand-side perspective and the business model concept could jointly promote a better understanding of strategy-making by mutually relying on the distinctive insights from each stream; specifically, while research on demand-side strategy can help business model scholars gain a more robust and granular understanding of effective value propositions, business models can serve as a 'bridging concept' that links the shared ideas of both areas of study to resource-based streams of strategy research."

One of the primary reasons that people come to us as financial advisers is to find out if, and when, they can retire. And you know something? A Code Word That Can Protect Your Child from Kidnapping

08:43
According to scary statistics, every 40 seconds a child is kidnapped in the US. A threat may come your way from an unexpected direction, so it's absolutely necessary to make sure that you have done everything to protect your family and save your child’ life. Teaching your kids a code word and some other crucial safety tips is extremely important to minimize the risk of kidnapping. It may sound shocking but only 24 percent of abductions are classified as "stranger kidnapping". Other children are taken away by family members or relatives (49 percent) or by those who the kids know (this is called "acquaintance kidnapping" and it makes 27 percent of all abductions). Emphasize that it's extremely important to demand the code phrase from anybody who states they have been sent by you even if it's a family friend or somebody your child knows. If this person doesn't know the code phrase, there's no way your child can go with them, no matter what story this person has prepared. You need to make your kid understand that danger can come from anybody, young or old, pretty or plain, smartly dressed or scruffy, kind and friendly or rude. Tell your children that anybody they don't know is a stranger. A good way to teach your little ones is during a game. Role-play different scenarios to make sure your kids know how to behave in particular cases. You can pretend to be an abductor who tries to lure your child into their car or a kidnapper who asks for help in looking for their lost dog. Tell your child to trust their instincts (the so-called "gut feeling"). If somebody makes them feel uncomfortable, they should go as fast and as far away as possible. You should be attentive as well. If they go somewhere alone, they should inform you or tell a trusted adult (for example, a relative) about this. Ask your children to tell you if anyone (this includes people they know) touches them in a frightening or strange way. Explain to them that it's even worse if a person tells them to keep cuddles or kisses secret. Therefore, kids don't perceive them as a threat and don't think that they should be careful around them. -Teach your child not to follow anybody who doesn't know the code phrase you have agreed upon. The phrase can be (and should be) something absolutely mundane. -Tell your children that anybody they don't know is a stranger. Make sure they know who they can trust if they get lost or are alone in some place and feel unsafe. -Make sure they know special phrases they need to yell. Tell them they can forget about manners if there's a threat to their life. -Kids mustn't approach any car to give directions. In case of a threat, they are to run in the direction of crowded areas, for example, shops, cafes, or other busy places. They should tell you where they're going and when they're planning to return. If their plans change, you should be aware of that.
