The food court is very big with hundreds of restaurants and it is full of people on their lunch break. Laura and John are trying to decide what to eat for lunch. Laura suggests they have some Mexican food, but John would rather go to a Greek or an Arabic restaurant. There are some fast food restaurants in the food court as well, but Laura and John both want to opt for a healthier option. Laura: I think we should go to an Asian restaurant and have some Asian food. I really love Asian food! John: Yes, that is a tremendous idea. What about the Chinese restaurant over there? We can have some dumplings and some egg fried rice. And maybe a fortune cookie after the meal! Laura: Great! I actually have some news, John. I had a terrible argument with Sophie on the night of Michael’s party. She was complaining about things all night and I was in such a bad mood. I had a fit and Sophie said some pretty nasty things to me. John: Oh, that’s too bad. Sophie can be a little difficult at times, but you two have been best friends for a long time. There must be some way you can sort it out. What did you argue about? Laura: I just want to apologise and move on. Sophie complained about some sores on her feet from her high-heeled shoes, and I offered to lend her a pair of flat shoes. But she refused and said that the shoes looked like some cheap knock off designer shoes. She can be such a snob. John: Yeah, I know, but she has some good sides too and it’s part of her character and charm. Some people are different and you have to accept them the way they are. You should talk to Sophie and tell her how you feel. Laura: You’re right! I’ll talk to her calmly. Now, let’s order some food! What are you going to have? John: I’m going to have some chicken with coriander sauce and some egg fried rice. What about you? Laura: Pork in sweet and sour sauce and some noodles, I think!

Processed Food Documentary - Processed Food vs. Nutritional Needs

33:36
Processed Food Documentary: Processed Food vs. Nutritional Needs. The human body runs on food. Once, food shortage was the major concern. After the second world war, technological advances in food production led to a new era, that was characterized by an overabundance of inexpensive food, and relatively little physical activity. In the decades that followed, other sociocultural shifts continued to contribute to the changing way we ate. Women who had previously controlled most of the average family's food preparation now entered the workforce in significant numbers. And the processed food industry began to capitalize on our need for fast, convenient food. This meant that fewer meals were being cooked at home. And since convenience foods were generally higher in calories than home-cooked meals, the average person's caloric intake increased dramatically. Maya Adam, MD, is waging a battle cry against one of America’s most critical – and challenging – public health crises of our generation: childhood obesity. A lecturer at Stanford School of Medicine and in Stanford University’s human biology program, she is leading the cause through education. As always, use this info to gather more info. A Cook Shares 11 Tips on Choosing Tasty Vegetables and Fruits

08:50
How to choose the best fruits and vegetables? A confectioner Maria Troitskaia shares useful tips that will help you navigate better among all the varieties of products available in supermarkets, especially if you still prefer shiny apples. Specifically for Bright Side, she collected tips and recommendations about what you should pay attention to if you want to choose the most flavorful and useful fruits and vegetables for your future culinary masterpieces. And don’t miss the bonus at the end of the video – some tips on how to choose a good avocado! TIMESTAMPS: Tomatoes 0:34 Watermelon 1:23 Bell pepper 2:22 Apples 3:13 Cherries 3:46 Plums 4:32 Cucumbers 5:00 Bananas 5:47 Pears 6:24 Kiwi 6:54 Lemons 7:16 Bonus 7:48 #ripefruits #ripevegetables #cookingtips Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - It’s pretty easy to spot nitrate tomatoes in a store — they are elastic but not firm. If you press it, you won’t see a trace of your fingerprint left on the tomato. Good tomatoes should be soft to the touch. - Opt for a medium-sized watermelon. Bright, contrasting stripes and a shiny crust are the indicators of its ripeness. A ripe watermelon has a dry tail because when a watermelon ripens it stops taking moisture from the ground. - The heavier the bell pepper, the juicier it is. Its tail should be green and firm. Search for peppers without orange spots — they indicate that the pepper has become a victim of insects. - An apple should be firm and heavy by weight. Don’t buy shiny apples. In order to make fruit look good, manufacturers coat them with wax or natural resins. - Buy cherries during high season — in June or July. The berries are more nutritious, tastier, and cheaper at this time. - When buying plums, opt for fruits with a homogenous color. Also, avoid buying cracked plums, as well as plums with dents, stains, and other injuries. - Give your preference to the cucumbers that are a bright green color. They should be firm to the touch. If a cucumber is fresh, the color of its skin should be saturated, without any shine. - Look for bananas that are a bright yellow color. Small dots on their peel indicate that the banana is ripe and is ready to be used. However, you shouldn’t store this type of banana for more than 2 days -or it will overripen. - A ripe pear can be easily identified by a bright aroma. The fruit itself should be neither very firm nor too soft and there should be no damage or dent on its peel. - When choosing kiwi, place one fruit between your thumb and index finger and squeeze it — a ripe fruit will be soft but elastic. - A ripe lemon has a shiny peel as if it was polished. Also, pay attention to the smoothness of the peel — the lemons from the first crop have a smooth peel. - An avocado’s skin should be a little pebbled, but there should be no severe dents that could indicate bruises. 10 Foods You Should Stop Eating Together

10:13
Sometimes even the healthiest of foods we use to eat combined with others can ruin all that healthiness you were aiming for. Pay attention to these common 10 food combinations that seem normal but are actually terrible for your health. Of course, one cup of hot chocolate a week won’t harm you, but you should be careful with it, especially if you have kidney problems. If that’s the case, replace regular milk you add to cocoa with skim milk. So, if you like to have some yogurt early in the day, either go for plain natural Greek version or add dry apricots or plums to it to avoid health problems. Many vitamins and other valuable nutrients that are found in vegetables and greens require fats for proper absorption. Whenever you dress your salads with lemon or vinegar only, you deprive yourself of a lot of healthy food elements. The starch pasta is so rich in needs alkalotic digestive fluids, and the proteins from meat demand acidic ones. When you mix them, they get stuck in your stomach and can cause heartburn, belching, gas, and other unpleasant consequences. To avoid all that pain, try having durum wheat pasta as a separate dish or combine it with herb sauces. Eggs and bacon combined are rich in protein, and scientists believe that this is not so good for your health. Your body spends a lot of energy on digesting such products. Scientists recommend drinking milk separately, 1-1.5 hours after your meal. Try using heat to help break down the phytic acid – boil bran beforehand. Cereal combined with orange juice, especially in the morning, won’t bring you the boost of energy you expect but may cause discomfort and heaviness in your stomach. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Cocoa + milk 0:56 Fruit + yogurt 1:46 Salad + lemon or vinegar dressing 2:30 Cheese pasta + tomatoes 3:13 Pasta + minced meat 3:57 Eggs + bacon 4:38 Bran + milk 5:57 Cereal + orange juice 6:45 Pizza + soda 7:24 Wheat bread + jam 8:33 SUMMARY -When combined with calcium, the acid cocoa is rich in contributes to the formation of oxalate crystals, which are bad for your kidneys in excessive amounts. -Dairy foods alone can worsen symptoms of allergies, block sinuses and be congestive. Fresh fruits added to them only make things worse. -Whenever you dress your salads with lemon or vinegar only, you deprive yourself of a lot of healthy food elements. -Cheese pasta and tomatoes slow down starch digestion. -When you mix digestive fluids and proteins from meat, they get stuck in your stomach and can cause heartburn, belching, gas, and other unpleasant consequences. -When you have eggs and bacon for breakfast, you deprive yourself of the energy you need so much at the start of the day. -The phytic acid found in bran forms insoluble compounds when it’s combined with calcium and magnesium. It also makes these minerals inaccessible to your body. -The acids in orange juice drastically lower the activity of the enzyme that is responsible for breaking down carbohydrates. -Carbs, proteins, and starch in pizza combined with sugar in soda will give you stomach heaviness and bloating. -Wheat flour combined with sweets will give you a boost of energy for just a short time, and then exhaustion and bad mood will take its place. MIND-BLOWING FOOD ILLUSIONS THAT WILL PLAY TRICKS ON YOUR EYES

12:07
This amazing chef creates mind-blowing food illusions that will definitely impress you! Chef Ben Churchill has been a professional chef for over 10 years. Around 3 years ago, he realised there was one area of cooking he had never really dabbled in: pastry. He started teaching himself the basics but soon grew tired of the conventional aspects of the pastry world. Everyone was doing the same cakes, mousses and pastries. This is when he started thinking about lemons. Could chocolate be worked to form the shape of a fruit, but contain a hidden surprise? He crudely constructed a chocolate shell by moulding yellow chocolate around a lemon, cutting the citrus fruit out then joining it back together, but not before filling it with chocolate ganache. It worked! It was rough, and crudely made, but it worked! Now his mind was opened. What else could be done? What else can be made? How far can desserts go? So he started experimenting. Carrot cake shaped like a carrot, beetroot shaped brownies, coconut mushroom meringues. With each dessert he was teaching himself new skills, new ideas. This is when he started to move even deeper into what he calls ‘food illusions’; desserts designed to trick and confuse. The ethos has always been the same however. The flavours must always remain true to the theme. A dessert based on the computer game Fallout, for example, should include flavours relevant to a post nuclear wasteland: sour sugar, lemonade, popping candy. As the desserts became more elaborate, so started the criticism. Some people in the world online couldn’t believe they were edible. They must be constructed with something other than food. So he decided to start filming himself making them. He showed himself creating, then eating the food illusions. This is when his profile really grew. His Facebook and Instagram started gaining followers, the video quality and editing skills improved, and the desserts kept on coming. People watching the desserts just wasn’t enough for him. He wanted people to experience them for themselves, to try making them, to start thinking like he does. So he began writing "Food Illusions volume 1". A compilation of some techniques, thoughts, articles and of course full desserts. Completely self-produced, from the photos to the design, it was released in November 2017 through Amazon. It was very well received by food illusion fans both new and old, and has shifted over 1,000 copies to date. What next? As of late his desserts have taken a sinister turn. Following on from the success of his washing up sponge dessert (olive oil sponge, topped with a mint crumb and served with a milk foam and apple puree to replicate a scrubbing sponge) he is now playing on the idea of not only making desserts that look like other things, but making them resemble unappealing items. The idea is to challenge people’s perceptions of taste. To add that element of surprise, and be delicious. Examples include the edible soap bar (lemon parfait, lavender gel and chamomile shortbread), the mouldy orange (a conventional mirror glazed imitation orange, but with the addition of bubble gum meringue powder for a realistic mouldy look) and most famously, the edible ashtray. A vanilla pannacotta set in an ashtray, topped with silver chocolate, meringue ash and chocolate cigarette butts. The reactions have been better than expected. Love it or hate it, they definitely get people talking. These desserts will set the theme for his next book, "Food illusions volume 2". There will be many desserts in the same style as these. Food to make your skin crawl but stomach celebrate, as well as tutorials on silicone mould making, more techniques and musings. 30 KITCHEN HACKS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

18:59
KITCHEN HACKS I wanted to make something special and I thought butt cookies seemed alright! Not entirely sure where the idea came from, probably one of my vivid dreams, but when I thought of making butt cookies it had to be done! Actually, truth be told I wanted to make butt cupcakes and call them buttcakes, but I couldn’t find an easy enough recipe. I have never baked a thing in my entire life, from scratch. So I needed a beginner recipe. Here’s the final result! This is the BEST sugar cookie recipe - no chilling the dough, cookies keep their shape when baked, soft and flavorful, perfect for decorating! INGREDIENTS: 1 Cup unsalted butter 1 Cup granulated white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 1 egg 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 cups all-purpose flour DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350° F. In the bowl of your mixer cream butter and sugar until smooth, at least 3 minutes. Beat in extracts and egg. In a separate bowl combine baking powder and salt with flour and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients. The dough will be very stiff. If it becomes too stiff for your mixer turn out the dough onto a countertop surface. Wet your hands and finish off kneading the dough by hand. DO NOT CHILL THE DOUGH! Divide into workable batches, roll out onto a floured surface and cut. You want these cookies to be on the thicker side (closer to 1/4 inch rather than 1/8). Bake at 350° F for 6-8 minutes. Let cool on the cookie sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack. These were a blast to make, decorate, and pass around. I would totally recommend doing something like this for a birthday or bachelorette party! If You Eat an Avocado a Day For a Month, Here's What Will Happen to You

09:20
What Will Happen to Your Body If You Eat Avocado Every Day. The avocado is a unique fruit with multiple nutritional and health benefits. How would your body respond if you ate just one avocado a day? In fact, it would transform your life as you’d get amazing results: your breath will be fresh at all times, your kidneys and liver will work more efficiently, your blood pressure will become lower, just to name a few. There's a miraculous mineral to be found in avocados: potassium. It helps your system keep a healthy fluid balance through chemical channels for cells and organs. Avocados are also a great source of vitamins C and E. Vitamin C is known for its involvement in the creation of collagen and elastin, which help to maintain the skin's elasticity and firmness. Vitamin E takes it to a whole new level, reducing the damage of excessive sun exposure and counteracting aging. TIMESTAMPS How to get fresh breath. 0:37 How to make your kidneys work more efficiently. 1:26 How to decrease your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. 2:20 How to make your liver function more efficiently. 3:16 How to lower your blood pressure. 4:13 How to improve your vision. 5:07 How to get extra protection from cancer. 6:03 How to lose weight easily. 6:52 How to make your skin glow. 7:49 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Avocado has antibacterial and antioxidant flavonoids, which kill bacteria in your mouth and make your breath fresh. -Potassium helps your system keep a healthy fluid balance through chemical channels for cells and organs. A good fluid balance allows your kidneys to function better. -Eating avocados regularly lowers the “bad” LDL cholesterol and blood triglycerides by up to 22% and increases the “good” HDL cholesterol by up to 11%. -This fruit is actually one of the best products for a liver-friendly diet, and that's all thanks to its ability to help your body produce glutathione! The liver desperately craves this antioxidant to filter out harmful substances and protect its cells from damage. -Potassium in avocados helps regulate the fluid balance benefits your blood pressure too. In this case, potassium prevents osteoporosis and, most importantly, lowers your blood pressure. -Avocados are high in antioxidants, especially carotenoids called lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect our eyes against harmful blue light. -The ability of avocados to give that extra bit of protection from cancer comes from the carotenoids and monounsaturated fat they contain, both of which make their own contribution to the impressive reduction of cancer. -Avocados are rich in fiber, which is essential for making those unwanted pounds disappear. Fiber is incredibly filling and digests slowly. -Thanks to vitamins C and E avocados help to maintain the skin's elasticity and firmness. Avocados are also rich in omega-9 fatty acids, and they’re crucial for maintaining moisture in the epidermis and regenerating epidermal cells. Lowe Petties was dining at a local fast food restaurant when an exchange by the counter caught her attention. The manager of the branch was having an unusual conversation with a female customer. So, Petties took a snap of the encounter and posted it on Facebook where it soon went viral. Ahmed Elmadhoun runs a Frenchy’s Chicken restaurant off Richmond Avenue in Houston, Texas. The fast food joint specializes in Louisiana Creole cuisine. However, it’s the eatery’s fried chicken that tends to pull in the crowds of hungry diners. On Wednesdays the restaurant runs a weekly special, in which customers can get their hands on two pieces of chicken for just $1.29. As a result, midweek is always a particularly busy time for Elmadhoun and his staff. Learn to Speak English: Lesson #10 - Food, Part 2

If you want to learn to speak English online, you've come to the right place. Our online lessons are created to get you speaking English in an intuitive way. As often as possible, we want to show you what we are talking about. You won't find much in the way of written text on our videos and that is intentional. We want you to think about English speaking in the same way that we all learned to speak our native languages as babies - by hearing it instead of reading it. Our program is designed to be an immersion experience. By watching our lessons you will form a direct link in your brain between an object and the English word for that object - without needing to translate via your native language. As awesome as our videos are, you can't learn English by just watching them. (We're great, but not that great!) English learning requires practice. You need to speak, and you need to speak out loud. When you see a mouth icon in the upper left corner of our videos, that's a sign that it's your turn to talk. Take this time to get in some practice! Repeat the words and sentences that we're saying. If we ask a question, answer it out loud. Rewind the video as many times as you need to until you can do it without our help. Don't be shy. Your parents, your siblings, and your friends might laugh at you a bit, but they're secretly jealous of how much progress you're making learning English. Better yet, ask them to practice out loud with you. Feel free to upload video responses of yourself practicing out loud so we and your fellow students can give you constructive feedback and advice. If you've ever asked yourself, "Where can I learn English" or perhaps more importantly, "How can I learn English without going broke?" we think you will really appreciate the lessons we are creating for you. 20 CHOCOLATE DECOR IDEAS

06:42
CHOCOLATE DECOR You can decorate almost any dessert with chocolate. Decorating Cakes with Chocolate is quick, easy and all you need is chocolate chips, a sheet of parchment paper and something to pipe it with; either a ziploc bag, or if you have one, you can use a frosting baggy with a pointy tip (to be completely un-technical). The recipe for the cake photographed above is posted here. Now imagine how pretty this would look over an espresso creme brûlée; Eh, eh?! Ingredients/ tools for Decorating Cakes with Chocolate: 1/2 to 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (this also works great for white chocolate decorations) 1 sheet of parchment paper 1 frosting bag Pointy tip or a zip lock bag Decorating Cakes with Chocolate: 1. Place a sheet of parchment paper on your counter (the least expensive parchment paper is at Costco). 2. Melt 1/2 cup or chocolate chips in the microwave or stovetop (more if you are doing a larger project). Don’t overheat it and check by stirring because the chocolate chips hold their form even if they are hot. If you overheat it, they will crumble and get dry. 3. Transfer your melted chocolate to your piping bag. If it’s a zip lock bag, cut a tiny hole by snipping the very corner of the bag; you can always make the hole bigger but you can’t make it smaller. 4. Pipe your design onto your parchment paper. For more detailed designs, one of my readers suggested that you can print your design on computer paper, then place your parchment paper over the printer paper and trace over it. If you mess up a few times; don’t worry about it; it’s not like you’re piping it onto your cake. 5. Put a cutting board under your parchment paper and transfer it to your freezer for 5 minutes or until chocolate hardens. 6. Now carefully peel it off the paper and transfer it to your cake. It’s easiest to transfer it while it’s still very cold from the freezer (less chances of your 3D chocolate breaking during assembly). Gosh it’s so easy. It’s too easy! You can also write out chocolate letters so you don’t destroy your cake if your “Happy Birthday” is uglier than you imagined it would be (been there) or if your flower ends up looking like a creature (done that). If you try this and share a picture on Instagram or Facebook, do let me know. I’d love to see your creative designs! Turning water into food | Bruce Bugbee | TEDxUSU

16:32
Utah State University has flown more experiments in space than any other university in the world. Thirty years ago Bruce Bugbee and his students began working with scientists on a NASA-funded project to develop a life-support system for people traveling away from our planet. This task requires a recycling system that produces food from waste and keeps carbon dioxide, oxygen, and water in perfect balance. This project led Bugbee to appreciate the elegance of Earth's biological systems where plants recycle gasses, purify water, and provide food. Humans are increasingly aware of the impact of fossil fuels on climate change but overlook the impact of limited water on their ability to grow food. Bugbee and his talented colleagues have sought to improve water use efficiency in agriculture. He presents an analysis on the enormous water requirement for food production, reviews the crisis in world water supply, and shows how small changes in diet can have a major impact on our global food-print. Bruce Bugbee teaches Crop Physiology and Plant Nutrition at Utah State University where he was awarded the Graduate Mentor of the Year award in 2001, the Researcher of the Year award for the College of Agriculture in 2005, and the Governor's Medal for Science and Technology in 2012. Bugbee is a past Chairman of the Crop Physiology division of the American Society of Agronomy. NASA has funded much of his research on the physiology of plants in the controlled environments of space. Bugbee has presented at several Universities as well as conferences in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China, and Brazil and has authored or co-authored over 100 journal articles and book chapters. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

30 SIMPLE KITCHEN HACKS YOU'D WISH YOU'D KNOWN SOONER

18:02
SIMPLE KITCHEN HACKS Making perfect bacon is easier than you might think. I used to forgo making bacon because the gigantic mess it made just wasn’t worth the amazing taste. A few years ago I learned about baking bacon and it has changed my life forever! Why should you bake your bacon? Baked bacon does not curl – you get nice straight bacon pieces every time. Cooks evenly – no white fatty pieces on one end and burnt bacon on the other. No splattering of bacon grease all over the place. No need to babysit the bacon. You don’t even have to turn it over! Tastes delicious! What you will need to bake bacon: Shallow baking sheet Foil (heavy-duty preferable) Metal cooling rack (optional) Non-stick cooking spray (optional) Paper towels - Line the baking sheet with foil. (You will want to use a baking sheet that has enough of a rim that it contains the bacon drippings.) - If using a metal cooling rack, spray the rack with non-stick cooking spray, and place the rack inside the baking sheet. - Place the bacon slices in a single layer either directly on the foil or on a rack. Make sure not to overlap slices. - Turn the oven on and set to 400 degrees. Do not wait for the oven to preheat. Go ahead and place the pan in the oven. - Cook the bacon for 12-17 minutes. Cooking time depends on the thickness of your bacon, and how long it takes for your oven to come to temperature. Start checking your bacon around 10 minutes to ensure your bacon doesn’t burn. (Nothing worse than burnt bacon!) - When the bacon is golden brown, the bacon is done. - Once the bacon has reached your desired level of crispiness, remove immediately and place on paper towels to soak up the bacon grease. Another great idea! I hate squeezing oranges but I love fresh squeezed orange juice. So, if you don’t have a juicer, this one costs you nothing but a couple of soda or water bottles! You’ll just have to try this to see how easy and convenient it is! I couldn’t wait to see how it worked, so I tried it right away and it works like a charm! My kids were so fascinated that you could do this. As a result, I’m buying a lot more oranges! : ) TIMESTAMPS: 0:36 Let's bake some bacon! 2:23 How to store an apple 4:36 Cookie decor idea 9:42 Sausage star breakfast 14:08 Awesome juicer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5min.crafts/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ Subscribe to 5-Minute Crafts GIRLY: https://goo.gl/fWbJqz Subscribe 5-Minute Crafts KIDS: https://goo.gl/PEuLVt The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/
